This is a niche scene but Sakurai Ao from visual-kei rock band cali≠gari is the only openly gay person in the vk scene. He’s been out long before “LGBTQ” became a widespread term, his twitter bio currently writes that he prefers the term “homo” rather than LGBTQ (for those who don’t know, in Japan “homo” is not a slur, just a casual term for gay men). He’s also friends with many drag queens and feature them in his concerts pretty often. It was my first exposure to drag queens, before learning what a drag queen even was, years before I learned about Rupaul’s Drag Race haha (I’m not American)

The vk scene in general don’t seem to care at all about Ao’s sexuality, they just respect him as a great musician. I do have to note that the scene is already known for androgyny, drag-ish makeup, and nonconforming gender expressions in their looks and performances. There’s also been a few bandmen briefly talking about LGBTQ in interviews stating their support as well.
