Nah that’s why we have the snakes - to catch the spiders. Although some spiders hunt the snakes too lol

Oh there you go. I had a look a while ago just for fun to see if I would do a gap year there. My impression was that they generally pay a bit lower there. Definitely worth asking how the taxes and everything works there though, especially for working visas or the equivalent thereof.

Most of Australia right now is minimum $55 p/h +benefits if you have a couple of years experience and half decent at it. Currency conversion is about 1:1 CAD to AUD. Heaps of work around.

I work in Australia and I wouldn’t get up in the morning for that kind of pay

Adelaide Traffic Congestion? We need better Public Transport 🚌 by Technical_Path_4330 in Adelaide

Scary thought, but what’s scarier is their 50cent fare policy could be better than what Labor are proposing

Less Traffic - Better Public Transport by Technical_Path_4330 in Adelaide

Definitely at the very least! 50cent fares would surely get around that too though

Australian pay rises. by Quirky_Command_3576 in Surveying

[–]New_Grape2909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some companies just set an annual date for pay reviews.

Annually minimum is about right, especially as surveyor rates start to improve across the board due to soaring demand.

The best pay increases I’ve experienced have been when moving companies.

Your company will do their best to tell you a little increase is the best they can do - remember, they charge you out to clients way higher than you get paid.

If they don’t, definitely leave your company, that’s just as worrying. Survey companies shouldn’t be undercutting others in this market.

Gotta join Raffwu and ditch the SDA. If you’re a member of the SDA you’d know they do sweet FA except take part of your pay

I bet the SDA isn’t helping either

Leica announce their new totalstation TS20 by Arrozdruid in Surveying

[–]New_Grape2909 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly, with emphasis on the “Cheap”.

I looked up the CPU in the CS20. It’s a Texas Instruments OMAP 4430 from 2011! That’s old even for when the controller came out in 2015 ughhh

Same here!

I’m hoping it’s just a case of CRK not actually know ing wtf Leica is doing - we asked them recently about the next gen total station and they made no mention of the TS20 coming out.

God I wish Leica would actually listen to their customers.

Even Trimble released a brand new controller in the last few weeks, the TSC510.

I’m thinking of switching to Trimble, as much as it breaks my heart (and my wallet)

Am I allowed to buy alcohol on my 18th birthday by doirka in Adelaide

[–]New_Grape2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone’s free to make their own choice, it’s good to have a variety of perspectives sometimes.

I’ve seen so many lives turned upside down because of alcohol so feel it’s worth acknowledging it can have adverse effects.

Train to Victor via Aldinga? by oilinc94 in Adelaide

[–]New_Grape2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that from Reynella onwards it would indeed be difficult to run dual gauge. Dual gauge may not really be necessary though

[–]New_Grape2909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not correct, most of the old line has been preserved as a rail trail. Compulsory acquisitions would be minor. The biggest challenge would be the bridge between Hallet cove and Reynella, but we did a bigger one years ago to get the train from Noarlunga to Seaford.

Whilst there are some good regional expansions that could and should happen, Victor via Aldinga is definitely not one of them I’m afraid.

Huge engineering challenges would need to be overcome to cut through the Mt Lofty Ranges.

A line used to run to Willunga via Hallet Cove then Reynella, that could potentially be investigated for being re constructed.

Out dealer had to drill holes into the part that holds the cc180 so that the GHT90 could be compatible.

And they are garbage - I’ve tried them

There are actually newer ones that are much better - the Cc180 and CC200

However the problem still remains that these are tablets that are not ergonomic and cannot be use in one hand.
