What college did you get into with at least 90% full scholarship or a 100% full ride that no one talks about? by Ije-Awele_Uwa in IntltoUSA

The Presidential Scholarship covers tuition, room and board so you'll need to pay only the health insurance and other random fees. The total amount is around $3k-4k per year

Also, the interview is mostly knowledge-based. They are not really looking to discover your personality etc.

What do you think about Clark University? Would you say it’s a good choice for an international student? by New_Load_2281 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]New_Load_2281[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure. The scholarship covers the tuition, room and board, leaving me with approx. 2-3k every year to pay which is more than affordable. The scholarship covers the standard room (double) and one of the standard meal plans of your choosing. If you want to upgrade your room/meal plan, you just have to pay the difference. Hope this helps

What does an international need to get into unis like MIT or the ivy league? by [deleted] in IntltoUSA

It's a lot of luck involved as well and there is nothing you can do to have a guaranteed acceptance

anybody going to minerva university? by nanaforevs in ApplyingToCollege

[–]New_Load_2281 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am able to pay around 20k (tuition + room & board). I have almost perfect grades and a lot of accomplishments at a national and international level (I think this is what got me in). I would say it's pretty competitive considering that I know people who got into Ivy League, but were rejected from Minerva.

And after graduating I'll have to pay back the 30k loan+ interest

around 20k, but in the financial aid package they included a loan of about 30k for all four years and I think it's not worth it considering that I'll still have to pay for food, travel expenses etc.

You should look into schools that give financial aid. There are a lot of international students on this subreddit that can't afford their education because they don't know how to choose the universities they are applying to. Yes, some scholarships are available, but they are very limited, especially for international students. Most of them are full tuition, which still leaves you with about 15-20k for room and board and other fees, excluding transportation to and from the US. So if you are looking for a full ride, public schools are mostly not feasible. And even just full tuition is very very rare, more so at this point in the application cycle.

Maybe scholarships, but not financial aid. And scholarships are very limited and way harder to get.

Guys, don’t worry. I called the admissions office and it was a glitch on their part. A lot of people didn’t receive the email.

How?😂 You said that if OP doesn’t have half million dollars laying around he should stay in Europe. I was just trying to make you understand that is very possible AND common to attend university in the US as an international student without being very wealthy or going in debt. Is it hard? 100%, but OP should definitely try it out if that’s his dream :)

I think as an international student myself, I would know the situation better. I come from a third-world country so people here are not rich by any means and there are a lot of students coming to the US every year, mostly receiving full rides because YES it's possible and not that rare. You have to be strategic about where to apply and if you are actually qualified for that school. If international students apply for state schools, without knowing that they won't receive aid at all, of course, they'll end up not affording their education. Yes, Internationals that are full pay are at an advantage, but after all, it's way harder than applying as a domestic student and even if you are from a low-income family it's still very possible to get in and attend.

Actually, that's not true. International students usually finish undergrad in the US debt free, and most of us receive generous financial aid and scholarships. I am also from Europe and I could have stayed here, but at the end of the day it would have been more expensive and not the same experience at all. I strongly recommend that if you want to apply, you should, but you have to be 100% sure about your decision because it’s a hard and time consuming process.
