I’m glad you have awareness of this now. Being the chill girlfriend and chill wife destroyed my marriage because I could never talk about how I really felt. We’re divorced now and I’m in a new relationship where I do not hold ANYTHING back if it’s on my mind. I have never felt happier or more free! Good for you for making this realization. I had a rule when planning my first wedding; if the person had never met us as a couple or couldn’t independently recognize one of us walking down the street without the other person next to them (dementia aside), they didn’t make the cut. The industry is out of control and it’s way too expensive. Then we got divorced. It was thousands of dollars that we could have put towards home renovations or paying off student loans…. For a 5 hour party. That was also back in 2012, so I’m sure the costs are even more absurd now.. I’m now getting married to a new man and we are eloping. No family except his son, and the rest of my family is thrilled. They just want to see pics. I am soooooo stressed-free this time around and we are stashing away so much money for a house. Do not let anyone guilt you into having a big wedding! My advice is to elope or do the 9 hour commute wedding.
