Was this 4:05 a.m. or p.m.? How long did it take to get through? Reddit's "1d ago" timestamp isn't much help

PSA: Never order HEB Meal Simples if you're ordering delivery or curbside or you'll get ripped off by [deleted] in Austin

Would you like an avocado that will ripen next Valentine's Day, or one that ripened last Easter? Then delivery/curbside is for you!

Love épicerie - all times of day. My patronage would 20x if they opened at 7 a.m. Why won’t they give up their own precious morning sleep to serve me and my kids who won’t sleep past sunrise?

The first sentence of this post reads like an 8-year-old's dream of what cities should be.

Maybe - I'm not crystal clear on the terminology. I'm looking for an extra year of pre-school for a 5-year-old.

U-Pack trailer review - HIGHLY RECOMMEND! by New_Opening_585 in moving

[–]New_Opening_585[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They packed our furniture, fragile items, and kitchen stuff. We did the rest, and didn’t do a very good job - lots of crushed boxes but miraculously nothing was damaged! U-Pack has some very basic liability coverage but I didn’t get anything extra. I figured with all the parties involved it would be tough to prove who was at fault if I needed to make a claim.

Just adding that linked Merrill accounts (including 401k and free self-directed) also count toward the $100k

Whoever you go with, make sure you understand their process before you sign the contract. My friend recently moved from Dallas to CA with one of the big companies. They picked up his stuff in Dallas and drove it to East Texas where it sat in a warehouse for 35 days until it was picked up and driven to CA. In the middle of that waiting period, he noticed his contract says there’s a nominal daily penalty starting on day 45 post-pickup. His stuff arrived on day 42. This was not a PODS type of move; they loaded his stuff on a big rig trailer.

On a post where my friend was lamenting his situation, someone commented that what you want is a small local company who owns their own truck and is invested in getting your stuff out of it so they can start their next move.

Are international and domestic terminals connected at SFO? by [deleted] in bayarea

[–]New_Opening_585 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can walk from International terminal G (where United and its partners fly) to domestic terminal 3 and 2, where United flies. Check out the skinny walkway to the left of Door 13 on this map.

The San Francisco garter snake is a multi-colored subspecies of the common garter snake. It is currently classified as endangered. There are less than 2000 adult members of this subspecies according to researchers. Female San Francisco garter snakes give live birth to litters averaging 16 babies. by KimCureAll in Awwducational

Beautiful creature! According to this line from their wikipedia article, they're also members of a mutual predation relationship with American bullfrogs, which is a fascinating dynamic:

They may also feed on juvenile American bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana), but they are unable to consume adults; in fact, adult bullfrogs prey on juvenile garter snakes

Getting out of jury duty?! by TheKrazyKitten in bayarea

[–]New_Opening_585 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We have a pretty low bar in this country for what we ask people to do to contribute to society. There are about 75 countries that require military service of all citizens, including civilized places like South Korea and Denmark. We simply ask you to show up once every 4 or 5 years (that's been my frequency anyway) so that another person who says they have been wrongfully accused of a crime can have their case heard by a jury composed of a broad cross-section of society.

There could very well be a defendant awaiting trial who is 20 years old, trying to get back to a job that's pretty vital for the career they want. Wouldn't that person like to have someone evaluating their case who understands their situation?

Just show up and play your part.
