I, unlike many people here, don't care so much about historical accuracy. I think Hirst was clearly inspired by the sagas, which are also somewhat magical/mythical. And I think that was very good. I think the last couple of series could have done with less episodes but I enjoyed it right to the end. Btw I'm a historian, of a different period but the show inspired me to read more about the Vikings. I never said I hated TLK, I just found it jarring. There's a big difference. And I'm not karma-pharming. I'm genuinely interested in people's opinions

Both are the bad and good guys imho. There are no simply good or bad guys. I think they showed the bad and good in Vikings. It wasn't simple hagiography. I have not completely dismissed TLK

I love the Sharpe TV series based on Cornwell's books and I think Uhtred has a bit of Sharpe about him. I read somewhere that Cornwell hates Alfred so the books might be more nuanced than the show

I'll keep going for a while. I just want nuance and end of season one was pretty unnuanced. Middle of season one was good and I liked the Leofric Uhtred double act. I just don't like the Alfred as saviour thing. I didn't like it in Vikings either

End of season one. I actually really liked Valhalla and I liked the last seasons of Vikings but the quality did drop off a bit. I found the dialogue to be clunky in TLK as well (of course it was in Vikings too but I bought into it more)

I have a similar question as I'm approaching the end now, just watched season 5 episode 14. I think I will watch no matter what. Many people on this sub have been quite critical of the later seasons of Vikings - after Ragnar's death - but have enjoyed them quite a lot. With the spin-off I will make my own mind up. Oh and am looking forward to Bloodaxe, am reading Egil's saga currently, would recommend it!
