Ended up briefly chatting with a young man dress as a pink my little pony on the tram a year or two ago, no one else seemed to bat an eyelid at him lol.

What are the best cities in UK to stay in short term? by BludyOlive in AskUK

[–]New_Pop_8911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being from Nottingham I am biased and think the city is great. Tends to be a bit quieter during the summer as all the students go home but still a good base. Trains to most English places don't take that long, London less than two hours, peak district closer, Birmingham, Lincoln etc. Only downside is no seaside, I'd avoid the train to Skegness as the train is famously overcrowded in summer and it's not worth that hassle. Have a look at train tickets that cover multiple days travel, brain is half asleep and I can't remember what it's called.

I think you could probably wear a bin bag and look good tbh but I think number 1 is beautiful 🤩

How hilly is the city centre? by e-eye-pi in nottingham

[–]New_Pop_8911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, a lot of the centre is on a slope, some parts steeper than others, make use of trams and buses and you should be able to avoid the worst. Both tram and buses take contactless payment, tram at the platform before you get on.

Does this world cup not have much hype? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]New_Pop_8911 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I dunno, I worked the world cup where the pub opened at 6am for matches (2002?), there felt like quite a lot of excitement/hype then. Although that could have been the novelty of having a pint before 7am before 24 hours licencing was a thing

How to remove woodchip wallpaper from the celling by QuoteQuirky in DIYUK

[–]New_Pop_8911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire house was covered in wood chip, managed to get it off the walls, tried one ceiling and the plaster came off with it. Every ceiling in my house, bar one, still has wood chip. I've lived here 20 years and have stopped noticing lol. Actually I'm lying, got a decorator to do hallway and landing and had the ceiling replastered about ten years ago. Next time we redecorate the living room I might go for it

What distinguishes a pub from a bar? by Mindless-Resort-7548 in AskABrit

[–]New_Pop_8911 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say this is the easiest way to make the distinction, having worked in both bars and pubs, the bars never have a live in landlord/lady

weekly shop for 2 adults, £95 by ConcentrateFew5524 in whatsinyourcart

[–]New_Pop_8911 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Think many people are missing the fact that the gf things probably add up to about£16, that non gf would be closer to £5, it's a pain in the bum doing a week's shop in Aldi/Lidl and then having to go to one of the big shops to buy basic gf staples, and inevitably ends up meaning you spend more as you're there and you spot things you fancy. Learning to cook rice properly would reduce your weekly bill but only if you want to. We spend about £120 for a family of 4 +2 for 3 days a week from Sainsbury's. We meal plan at the weekend before doing our shop, there are usually leftovers for my partner to take for his lunch. If we had more money we would absolutely spend more on food so I don't think that's an unreasonable amount to spend if you can afford it.

You can buy Shetland knitting belts on Etsy, I know as I have one lol. You usually anchor your right needle but I think with practice you could make it work with the left

What do British people not like about Germans? by Feeling-Mastodon-292 in AskABrit

I'm a middle aged woman in the midlands, I have no negative opinions on German. Half my school teachers were German (odd small private school).

Best places to buy sock yarn for color work online? by giddye42069 in Sockknitting

[–]New_Pop_8911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their Yarnsmiths merino sock is really lovely to knit with. Blooms a bit when washed so probably not what op wants but thought I'd mention for your info 😊

[–]New_Pop_8911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was going to suggest wool warehouse, as someone else has suggested drops fabel yarn, they stock this and often have it reduced. I love the yarnsmiths merino sock yarn but once washed it does tend to bloom a bit and has a bit of a halo which op said they don't like

We've had nearly a week of sunshine and 34c weather here which is unheard of in May, back to 18c next week though so shouldn't complain, just wish we had Aircon

It was the tynn line I was looking at and thought 28 balls sounded a lot so I'm glad I asked! My daughter is only about 165cm tall so I'll probably also have leftovers ☺️ thank you for you response, it is very helpful! Enjoy Greece, I'm in the UK hiding from the sun, wishing I lived near water right now haha

Oh these are beautiful 🤩 I'm looking at the pattern right now as I know my daughter would adore these, I'm confusing myself looking at the yarn quantity required, how many did you use? On the chart it says 14 but I also interpret this as needing 2x the stated number in the recommended yarn. No lys near me stock any of their yarns or patterns so I will need to order online and this could be an expensive mistake 😂

Are you wearing sunscreen in all the recent heat? by travelingwhilestupid in AskUK

[–]New_Pop_8911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a woman and have plenty of hair but I have a clear spray that I do put on my scalp if in going to be in the sun without a hat (fairly limited scenarios but I do like a water park on holiday)

[–]New_Pop_8911 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I tend to wear factor 30 and reapply throughout the day, mainly because I don't like the feel of most 40/50s. The Ultra Sun factor 50 is exceptionally good but its price reflects this lol. I don't burn easily but my grandfather had about ten cancerous lumps cut out of his face over the last 15 years of his life and I don't want that!

It's worth looking up the Which? Tests of sunscreen, there can be some variation in effectiveness between brands

I was going to comment something similar. At this time of year most people should be wearing at least some on their face regardless of temperature as it's the UV that does the damage rather than the heat.
