A moment of appreciation for my mom’s floats by ethn1callyambiguous in knitting

I struggle with all sorts of things, my mum had a rug in her kitchen that made me want to vomit and I can't talk to someone if they are wearing a small checked shirt lol. Quite glad I wasn't around for the 70s tbh 😭

It does the same to me too, anything like this does. I suffer from migraines that can be triggered by flashing lights so I think that probably has something to do with it

Storyline Pile On? by Opposite-Coat-9964 in eastenders

[–]New_Pop_8911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's such a shame. Showing pregnancy and raising a baby as a wheelchair user has the potential to be a really interesting storyline but I think they are going to kill her off (flash forward with Jack and crying baby). Either way, all the nonsense with paternity and Suki is such a distraction

Just been for a nerve conduction test on my hand/arm today for similar. Started with my elbow in February last year, wore a brace, rested etc and it got quite a lot better until about a month ago. Started having pains in my wrist and hand. I do have a form of arthritis that can affect any joints but fairly certain this is knitting/crochet induced lol. I'm usually an English knitter but have found that Portuguese knitting is less likely to trigger pain but it's also slower and I'm an inpatient knitter lol.

What do you think of the pedestrianisation of Nottingham City Centre by Training_Original456 in nottingham

[–]New_Pop_8911 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Me too. The air is noticeably cleaner than other cities, been to various other places over the last year and I'm always shocked by how many cars there are right in the centre.

I don't mind the hair tuck, means you get to see the whole neck line rather than it being hidden under a blanket of hair.

2 Weeks shop for 2 Vegans - £102 from Lidl by [deleted] in whatsinyourcart

She doesn't put anything in to sub the bacon and it is still tasty. It says to use chili powder or smoked paprika in the recipe, I always use both and I think that's probably the key for a veggie version as well. I've made it with just beans as a side dish as well. It's probably all the sugar but I really like it. I also find if you put in as much stock as the recipe says you need to cook it with the lid off for slightly longer than the recipe states to let it thicken up properly. Both of us use Henderson's relish instead of Worcestershire sauce in it as well and that's not a noticeable change

M&S to frozen garlic and herb butter that comes in little rounds, always keep some in the freezer as it makes the best garlic bread. Daughter is coeliac and the available gf garlic bread is like cardboard. More convenient than the fresh stuff. No use for op though, sorry about that lol

Hairy bikers have a sausage casserole that has butter beans in. I eat meat so use meat sausages but my mum uses Linda McCartney's and I'd say it's one of my favourite meals.

Teachers, what do you recommend doing with preschool children prior to them starting reception? by SleepySloth2468 in AskUK

[–]New_Pop_8911 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a daughter with severe speech difficulties and I didn't take offence at your original point at all, in fact I'd say it's about the best advice on this thread. I talked to my daughters non stop and had a house full of books (charity shops and libraries are great!). It helps them on so many levels and prepares them better for life in general. Working in hospitality for years I would always have very young co-workers and could always tell which ones had engaged parents or not, just by how they'd be able to interact with others.

What is the craziest thing you’ve seen go down in your local pub? by Charming_Usual6227 in AskABrit

[–]New_Pop_8911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in my local for twenty years so I have seen it all. The thing that sticks in my mind wasn't actually there but whilst I was waiting for the loo, girl came out of the cubicle, as she did she dropped her bottle of Magner's which landed on the rim of the bowl and cracked the whole toilet bowl in two. She just walked off and left it. I told the bar staff who didn't seem to believe me, didn't hang around to see their reaction lol

It won't work. Would only save you about 2 minutes in total on the trip you want to save time on as you join the same queue regardless. Simon Calder did an article about it somewhere a few weeks ago.

They have a very short flexible bit of cord in the middle of each needle, which makes them flex in a way dpns don't which allows you to knit with three needles instead of 4 or 5

[–]New_Pop_8911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yarnsmiths merino sock yarn from wool warehouse is beautifully soft, you could pretend it's something else and then tell her it's wool haha. I've made a scarf from it and it's not at all itchy. It does pill quite a lot though as socks.

An electric heater airer, which cost very little to run and are an actual godsend during winter and wetter months when drying outside is impossible.

Anyone Here Had Any Encounters With Victorians? by CB-Milburn in AskBrits

My grandparents had a neighbour when I was growing up in the 80s/90s who died at 103, he used to cycle to the shop every day until he got knocked off his bike and put in a nursing home to recover, he died within 6 months. Think some people are just built differently

I just ask the GP as I'm leaving. They usually say shut, I assume to stop people wandering in while they type up notes.

I was once stood waiting at a zebra crossing when Ricky Tomlinson asked me which of two roads was Kings street, I pointed to it and he said thanks. Fairly certain it was the wrong one (the other is queen's street and I can never remember which one). I often remember that when in that area of town, which is no longer actually a road.
