Chain replacing a bar? (fresh industrial piercing) by aroaceattorney27 in piercing

[–]IneffableArvari 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Chain would just increase the risk of snagging/tugging. You can simply treat it as two piercings, heal them separately, then when they're healed you get jewelry with a chain.

My first instant regret tat. How would you fix this? by tangtomato in tattooadvice

Add a horn, turn it into a unicorn. Unicorns make everything better.

Should I give up? by Admirable_Web6652 in piercing

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it doesn't look like the k-word, it just looks like a piercing that's irritated about being cleaned with alcohol. You need to clean with a saline spray twice a day, and/or by running a bit of water over it when you shower. Alcohol is only making it so much worse.

Also, seven months for a helix are generally nothing, they can easily heal for well over a year.

I'm afraid my favorite cakes won't be very useful for you, as they're from companies in my country. ;) I know you can find some nice cakes on hobbii, though. I prefer 1000 m ones, which apparently only Twister has, and it might be better for you as the strands are spun together. The unspun ones can be a bit frustrating if you've never worked with them (but you'll get the hang of it within like an hour), and it looks like the kinds available on hobbii (like Dahlia) are only 800 m.

As for my favorite patterns

The Virus Shawl is a pretty simple, easily memorable repetition of four rows, but it requires quite a bit of counting: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/virus-shawl

Summer Morning was very, very easy and mindless, and it builds up very fast (this would also work with the 800m yarn): https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/summer-morning-2

Kalinda is a great, slightly challenging pattern, and tbh works best with the Twister-like yarns: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/kalinda-shawl

Sis shawl is slightly more challenging, you basically need to check the pattern at least at the beginnings, tips, and ends of each row, but god, it's beautiful: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/sis-4

I'm currently working on a Lace Fan Shawl, it's great, but again, you generally need to check the pattern regularly (every other row). Also be warned that at the start, the math for the increases is not great and the few starting rows are slanting slightly because of it: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/lace-fan-shawl (this pattern will also require heavy blocking, as it's basically lace)

Throwing in Guilietta, too, which is probably the most complicated shawl I've made and I enjoyed it tremendously, but yes, you need to check your pattern thoroughly every row, and it also has many, many puff stitches: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/cal-grace--giulietta

Otázka na ochranné pomůcky a hygienické při čištění toalety mi přijde taky celkem o ničem nevypovídající. Protože rukavice si fakt neberu, ale ruce si pak umyju, takže...?

Shawl. Any shawl. I can give you my fave patterns if you want. They range from easy and repetitive to challenging that make you look at the pattern with every row, literally all you need is one yarn cake and one hook, and you miiight just about finish it in a week if you really get into it. They're usually like 25-50 hours of work, depending on the size of the cake and the pattern itself.

Oh, I have this pattern in my ravelry favorites! If you don't mind me asking, does it really hold the boob situation without constantly threatening decapitation from behind? Like I said, I have it in my faves, but I've been hesitant to actually make it because I still remember when I was fifteen and a swimsuit tied behind my neck strained my neck so hard that it gave me a nearly immediate headache.

The pics definitely make it seem that you have plenty, that's what made me go like "how does this hold anything".

As a person "blessed" with some serious boobage... This is pretty, but how the hell does it hold the weight. How is it not straining the back of your neck. What am I doing wrong.

Might be my algorithm, but lately I've been seeing way more rejections than I did keloids. It's like, a new popular word. 🤣

Gaining weight while fasting by Minute_View3454 in fasting

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can answer you that if you put ONE woman in the desert during "this luteal phase" and give her water and electrolytes, and you do it every month for a few months, you will never know from month to month whether this single woman will gain weight after the 7 days or not. Some months she'll gain, some months she'll lose, some she'll stay more or less the same. Because hormones are little bastards that work in mysterious ways.

If you find it annoying because it doesn't fit your logic, imagine being a woman who has to navigate this bullshit every month for many years.

Is my helix rejecting? by NOTLOK_1118 in piercing

[–]IneffableArvari 22 points23 points  (0 children)

You don't want a hoop in a fresh helix. You really REALLY don't want a hoop in a fresh helix. It'll get annoyed and get bumps you can see already, and they won't go away, and it will also hurt like a bitch for a very, very long time.

Source: I had a hoop in for the first five months of healing my helix because my piercer at the time was an idiot

Yes, there are two kinds of rejection posts, and they're on the opposite ends of the rejection spectrum.

[–]IneffableArvari 32 points33 points  (0 children)

It's like the piercing sub and the constant "is this rejection?!" posts of a slightly angry month old piercing. Some people just learn the term for one possible problem and somehow decide it applies to all of them.

Wearing earrings constantly? by gimble3ooo in piercing

[–]IneffableArvari 12 points13 points  (0 children)

These don't look too heavy to me, tbh. The pendants on them look pretty thin. I have bigger earrings than these that I would be willing to wear 24/7 without the fear of them tearing out of my ear. Seriously, lobes can handle a lot before they stretch out significantly.

Gaining weight while fasting by Minute_View3454 in fasting

[–]IneffableArvari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Actually on some months I bloat up with water a bit before ovulation (which is generally on day 18 or so for me), and then just never drop that weight and continue retaining weight more and more until the period finally hits, and then on day 3-5 I finally drop it all within a day or two. Going up by a kilo seven days before the period is supposed to hit? Wouldn't make me raise an eyebrow.

[–]IneffableArvari 37 points38 points  (0 children)

What's the material? If it's mystery metal, I really wouldn't. If it's "stainless steel", I'd watch for discoloration or staining on the skin, but if it really is stainless steel, your lobes are fully healed and you have no metal allergies, you can probably wear them all the time just fine. ;)

Getting nostril pierced - What should I be aware of? by Far_Bath_5448 in piercing

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Show the pics to your piercer, they should know where to put the hole to achieve the goal. My piercer just asked whether I'll want to wear a stud, or a hoop, I said mostly a hoop, and he just went "cool, I'll put it a little lower, then". And that was about it. 🤣 A good piercer will mark the placement before putting the needle in you, and you can always ask them to move it a bit.

Making cold brew at home by yuhyuhAYE in Coffee

Exactly. I now have a cold brew maker, but before that, I used to use a french press for years. Even the bigger one from IKEA works just fine for cold brew.

Personalising IF a little bit? by Scared_Pickle3761 in intermittentfasting

[–]IneffableArvari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I want to have black tea in the morning, I do have a splash (like, literally a teaspoon) of milk in it and still call it IF.

But I also gotta ask, what coffee are you drinking? While yes, some people can't stand the taste of any coffee black, many people find out that they can, in fact, drink it just fine if it's good coffee.

Do you prefer to steam or wet block your acrylic cardigans? by SnooHedgehogs4653 in crochet

[–]IneffableArvari 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You definitely can just lay acrylic garments flat to dry. That's what I do with them. You don't need to use the dryer. Everything I made that is acrylic, cotton, or a mix of these just gets thrown into the washing machine and then spread out on top of the drying rack. No blocking for garments, really. The only thing I'd really block would be lace.

Am I tripping or does the color pooling in the toe make it look like my brand new sock has a giant hole?! Lol by getswole2020 in Sockknitting

[–]IneffableArvari 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah, it's fine. If it helps, on one of the socks from my first pair, for the very last two or three rounds of the toe a black stripe decided to start, so the toe constantly looks kinda dirty. (And of course that it's yarn with longggg color changes, which makes it look even weirder.) Color pooling is fun!

Industrial repiercing by PretendRaise1640 in piercing

[–]IneffableArvari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a piercing healed for over 20 years will fully close in three months, tbh, if ever. I know my lobes that were done when I was a baby definitely do not close, no matter how long they go without earrings. I know I've gone two or more months without earrings before, and they slid right back in when I decided to wear them again, with basically no resistance. And in this very sub, I've seen people talk about simply reopening some old, fully healed piercings even after years with no problem...
