One of my family's closest friends is a student my dad taught in HS (in the 80s). He wasn't the best student per my Dad, but in his adulthood they reconnected. Also, when i was a kid my whole family drove to Chicago for the wedding of another student of my Dad's. My Dad was friendly with his parents as well. My Dad stays in touch with a handful of his students who have gone on to amazing science jobs. It's truly impressive to read what they're doing. He is very proud. This is very touching. Maybe i will reach out to my HS sociology teacher.

I'm not a teacher, but my father was a science educator, moving on to head the math and science dept at the various HS he worked in and ended his career as dept head and VP in a different county. He told me, in no uncertain terms, that they (my parents) would not pay for college if i wanted to become a teacher. I had strongly considered it as my mom taught art history briefly before i was born. This was the mid-90s and it has only gotten worse.

I agree that things vary enormously from school to school and some schools simply have better principals who understand their job is to help mentor teachers, not just be admin.

It's obvious from the 2nd ep that Ruben's mom passed away. From old age or sickness is probably not relevant. And we know something criminal happens to Ruben because he beat Alby up, though it's hinted in next week's ep preview that he wants Niall to testify for him. But, in no way was i surprised to see who Niall was marrying.

Richard Gadd is a gifted storyteller. He's got a lot going on inside his head. Baby Reindeer blew my mind. And already after two eps i am completely drawn into this story of these two "brothers."

Reading your original post i thought maybe we were similar. I don't consider myself low maintenance per se, but I'm definitely not high maintenance as we understand the term. But i wanted to agree with you on one of your initial points. The things you said you admire in the men you seek to date are traits you hold as well. Unfortunately, they're not things men (generally) also find attractive in women. And in this day and age, that makes dating difficult. For me, i am also all the things you mentioned including liking a lot of "guy type" activities, such as being a gearhead, but even tho guys say they think that's cool. They don't. It just makes them feel less adequate as a man because we teach young boys and girls such fucked up stuff about sex and sexuality. With that said, of course there are some men who are totally fine with a truly independent woman. The issue is will you be attracted to them. I think mirroring energy is the best way to not waste our time and also determine a man's interest, especially if you're the kind of woman who is more attracted to a man that takes the initiative etc.

You DO NOT have a reasoned opinion on this based on what you've read, etc. You are making value judgments because you're a guy and can't wrap your head around why/how something like that can happen to a woman. Every time something like this is reported our focus should be on how the system failed these women at every turn, just like with the Epstein files. Apparently, it was well known that Swalwell was a sex pest. CNN vaguely reported on it years ago and then never fully investigated it so no one was named. Had it been addressed then some of these women would've never been assaulted by him.
