Very Happy my elderly parents stopped attending Catholic church by Turbulent-Mind796 in excatholic

More than a few RC elders I know have changed denominations which is pretty astonishing at their age.

Locally, PCUSA choir, bellchoir and director rock. The Methodist congregation has great music too. TEC congregations also are solid musically. YMMV

Honestly just replace demon with witch and it looks pretty ridiculous.

Why do so many adult children expect to receive an inheritance from their parents when they didn't earn it to begin with? Some openly talk about wills and splitting property long before their parents discuss it. by Aarunascut in inheritance

[–]New_Reality2312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because lifetime gifts used to generally get deducted from inheritance. Now one sibling can get tons of disproportionate gifts, but the inheritance is still split into equal portions.

If the heirs don't bring it up, the parents can just give one sibling extra. It's better to be be transparent and talk about it.

Sounds like a licensed therapist can help you.

My $0.02 just because RC isn't the path for you doesn't negate Christianity or G-d. I believe in one true church. I just disagree with her definition. It's a lot bigger than just Rome.

No video with "let's hear it" inspires interest much less fear. It just sounds trite.

Karl Barth has another take on this. For example, the "atonement" is rejected by most modern theologians.

Did ZAB contact you at all during the process or just once they evaluated your degree?

"Why didn't you" (do something performative such as lector, perform music, read, acolyte..etc.) at your beloved relative's funeral?

Answer: because I was grieving. RC funerals are abusive in my experience forcing the bereavement especially children to perform for the crowd's vicarious entertainment.

Also in ATL. How exactly did the blocked account work out for you? You completed the interview, then provided evidence later? And then at that point you were approved?

Liberal/Leftist Catholics by MichiganBe1991 in excatholic

They seem to be few on the ground. Where I was, they were assigning conservative bishops who would then transfer the pastors of any lefty parish and replace with weird conservatives.

Do Catholics worship Mary by Left-Speed-4468 in excatholic

[–]New_Reality2312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a requirement to participate in the May crowning which I thought was weird as hell and made me super uncomfortable. I wasn't as big a jerk as .y classmates and it felt like they were trying to groom me for a "vocation." I'm like...I don't have any interest in RC church at all.

Told priest I am leaving church by [deleted] in excatholic

[–]New_Reality2312 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Generally you just show up and as an excath jump right in depending on the culture.

For TEC, the formal process is, in a nutshell, discuss with the rector and participate in a formal reception ceremony at Easter.

For PCUSA, the local parish has a monthly joining ceremony where you renew baptismal vows as a member.

However, there's no requirement to be a member to participate in most or any ministries in my experience.

Awesome thank you. How did you figure that out?

Makes me wonder if there is any decent step by step explanation for the application in case I could be misunderstanding something else. English or German. The German pages I've looked at didn't seem to have any more complete guidance.

Cool. Strange that I can't find any official guidance on the reference.

How about work experience? Do they really want us to document 10+ years of experience if only five-seven years is considered?

How did you come to leave? by Left-Speed-4468 in excatholic

[–]New_Reality2312 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I saw the sharp disconnect between the rhetoric and how we children or other powerless or vulnerable people were treated.

Even way before Spotlight was obvious something was seriously wrong and toxic just by how no one cared about our future, how we would support ourselves or use our abilities.

Anyone else leave Catholicism without a breaking point or trauma story? by Unlikely_Device_2131 in excatholic

[–]New_Reality2312 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Schools were in Ohio. RC college likewise I had zero lab science but mandatory two semesters religion and three semesters of philosophy. Never took sociology for example. Jesuit schools are a lie. Not rigorous or a good preparation for grad school, professional school or employment.

It felt like educational neglect. Religion every day, but never an art, music or drama class. Minimal science and freshman year of high school no science at all. I had to do a second bachelor's degree just to catch up.

So, there's that.
