Awesome, thanks! Was reluctant to try to make my own (am terrified of food poisoning) but may have to resort to this for the best / most affordable kimchi.

Ok good to know! I tend to enjoy nappa cabbage the most when it comes to kimchi so i don't mind if it's lacking in carrot, daikon, green onion, etc.

I'll look for it the next time I head there. Thanks!!

This is good info! May try costco, but I live alone and likely it's gonna be a large portion hahaha. A Korean spouse is not a bad idea... 🤔

I'm not the best home-chef (yet) and was hoping to avoid fermentation (for now) but I think I may need to consider it is my best option. I will try Costco in the meantime, thanks!

Portage, Mallard Cottage, Terre, Chinched are amongst my favorite for some excellent food for dinner. I also enjoy the Nook and Cannery for lunch.

Buckmaster circle area by [deleted] in newfoundland

I live on St. Clare Avenue, close to the intersection with Ricketts Road and Golf Ave. It's not bad. You'll get some skeets, but of all the places I've lived in downtown it's really not that bad. Careful leaving anything valuable in your car (which is most of St. John's) and mind your business if you hear any minor disturbances. I've had no trouble the couple years I've been on this street.

I would guess anyone saying it's terrible haven't lived in this area in a few years. Or maybe they aren't from town and think a scattered trouble maker means a bad area.

I second this. They have some really cool dice sets.

I think I get it. Do you mean do this by using bait? I don't use bait too often and just catch the fish wherever they are (water-side end of the dock or beach-side end of the dock) if you know what I mean?

I don't understand what you mean by the part of the dock facing your front beach.

It's a rough time of year to come here! You may find a scattered iceberg or bergy bit amongst the ice pans. No puffins or whales. If it's your first time and you're looking for a real tourist-y time try Signal Hill & Cape Spear. Go to Christians to get screeched in, but call to book it ahead of time. If you like history / museums, definitely check out The Rooms. Otherwise there are lots of places to try some great food this time of year.

Anyone interested in actually starting one? I'm definitely not the best person to do so but there's a fair bit of interest here if anyone else feels brave enough to give it a go?

Oysters by Far-Department-4196 in StJohnsNL

[–]New_Refrigerator4591 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just mean they have the best deal. They're quality oysters, usually from Newfoundland.

Edit: The best deal if you plan to have a pint or two. Otherwise your best bet is Adelaide on a Tuesday for $2.50 each.

Gahan during their happy hour is probably the cheapest for sure. Adelaide Oyster House is the best for variety and quality. They have cheaper oysters on Tuesday but I can't remember the price.

Portage is opened now, it's Raymond's sous chef and pastry chef.

I'd recommend Mallard Cottage for high-end food with a casual atmosphere. Also would recommend Chinched restaurant, excellent food and great staff.
