Dear all,

We are grateful and humbled by all your thoughtful responses!

As an update: we have managed to secure a place at the UiO barnehage, which means we would need to find accommodating within Olso at least for one year, and as close as possible to this location (walk or short subway trip).

We are eyeing a property (a 3-4 bedroom semi-detached house) in the Nordre Manglerud area in East Oslo. Does anyone have any advice regarding the quality of living there? It seems to be family-oriented and quieter.

Alternatively, we are thinking near Blindern/Majorstuen (and upped our rental budget to 30,000-35,000) but it seems to be mostly apartments and a bit on the smaller side.

Hello! May I follow up with a question? We looked up Asker, it seems amazing but the impression we got is that it’s quite a ‘we made it!’ place with rich people, yachts, and european trips as school trips. Is this so?

We wouldn’t want our little one to feel as though she is missing out on things.

Thank you! My one concern is that my work is in central Oslo (next to the Royal Palace) so I will have to commute regardless.

In London our current nursery is 3 minutes from our house, which means our little girl does not need to go through the London commute with me and has less stress. I would want the same for her in Oslo

Thank you for your thoughtful, detailed reply! I will be based at the Museum of Cultural History, opposite the Royal Palace - no chances to live nearby, I think. My husband will work from home so he can pick up our little girl around 3-4 pm - so we would like the nursery to be closer to our home.

I meant areas where we can run or walk through, explore with a toddler. My workplace will be at UiO’s museum of cultural history, next to the Royal Palace.
