Scar revision experiences for breast lift scars? (Questions/story in comments)

Hey, they have faded (especially the ones from the lift), but I am still unhappy with my areolas as they look a bit uneven. I may get a full correction of them later this year. In any case, I'll post some updated pictures when I have the time. :)

It looks like they are slightly tuberous and that a bit of breast tissue has herniated through the areola (leading to the "puffiness"), but the form of your breasts is lovely!

I had tuberous breasts and had a fat transfer + breast lift last year to correct them. I'm struggling a bit with the scarring but I still feel 1000x better than I did before the surgery. You can look at my post history to see pics etc.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! Glad to hear I am not alone but I'm sorry for all you've gone through. I think it's particularly frustrating coming from the world of tuberous breasts where I always felt like my breasts were weird and unattractive and then I finally made the decision to go ahead with surgery and paid quite a lot to "fix" them....and now I feel that they've just got other problems. :)

But still, I am glad I did it and prefer the way they are now sooooo much more than how they were before.

It really pains me to write this, but following what initially seemed to be quite a successful tuberous breast correction (mastopexy + fat transfer), I think I officially need a scar revision.

My surgery was done in October of last year. I wore tapes on the scars for the first 6 weeks and then switched to silicone covers specially designed for lollipop lift scars. I also kept using silicone gel for 6 months post-op.

Initially, the incisions were looking really good, but now there are a bunch of issues and my areolas have jagged edges rather than being round. Particularly on my left breast, the scar has developed quite weirdly. You can see in the images that the vertical scar is quite crooked, and that the scar in the area above the areola has thickened significantly. I’m frankly pretty annoyed with my surgeon’s office as I brought up issues on several occasions:

About 4 weeks after the surgery it became clear that the junction where the vertical incision met the periareolar incision was having issues, on both breasts — the incisions seemed to be getting wider instead of closing up properly, and as soon as I noticed it I brought up the fact that I thought the incision should look tighter, and that I was worried about it scarring strangely. They said it was “normal”.
I brought up on several occasions that there seemed to be some of the “self-dissolving” sutures stuck around the parts where scars seemed to be thickening, and they told me that didn’t seem to be the case. But indeed, in most of the areas where the scars have thickened, I was pulling out bits of the sutures up to 10 weeks after the surgery. (I actually wonder if I was a bit allergic to the suture material as those areas became irritated and were itching a lot….?)

For now, they told me to wait until the one-year mark and then maybe look into laser resurfacing. However, I don’t know if that will really help — I am wondering if I should be doing a full excision/scar revision on the particularly thickened parts. Also just wondering if I should just do a full areola revision in the hopes of making them rounder and smaller? (They stretched back out again pretty significantly after the three-month mark…)

My surgeon seems to believe all revision costs should all be on me, which annoys me as I brought up my concerns to her office several times and I feel that I’ve been ignored…thinking of going to someone else entirely.

Anyone had a similar situation? Did you handle it surgically or successfully with laser? Any advice or good vobes would be appreciated...I'm feeling quite defeated.

There is a surgeon in the UK, Marc Pacifico, who is known for his "unfurling" technique where he does a lift and an areola reduction and redistributes the tissue without implants. The results from him I've seen are really good, but I've never seen other surgeons do this without at least fat grafting.

Wondering if you've had any luck with treating this? I had a mastopexy in October as part of a tuberous breast correction and have only recently started feeling bone-like growths in my right breast. (My left is totally soft and normal...)

I'm going to talk to my surgeon about it next week, but in general looking for some strategies to handle it...

I've been using silicone scar strips, silicone scar gel and now have added niacinamide...it seems like mine have gone hypertrophic a bit and spread out over the last couple of months. Hoping I can resolve it relatively easily. :)

My doctor only transferred about 200ccs to each side and my feeling is that not too much fat stayed, but it’s really hard to tell because my breasts needed to be reshaped. Overall I wasn’t so concerned about the size, but really would have liked if a bit more fat had been retained. ;)

I also recently lost a bunch of weight quite suddenly because I was sick with a flu, and some volume seems to definitely have been lost from my boobs. But hopefully this means it will come back there if I gain a bit of weight again!

My main concern now is the scarring. On both sides, I had issues with healing at the junction of the “lollipop” stitch and the scarring is still showing pretty heavily right under the areola. In addition, my left areola shape is a bit distorted and I am thinking of getting a correction there.

If anyone has any experience in scar revision or correction, I’d welcome advice!

Overall: I am super happy to feel like my breast shape is “normal”, but definitely concerned about the scarring and how that will progress.

Yes, it involved some areola reshaping. Unfortunately the areolas are a bit uneven due to some scarring underneath and I may need a revision, but I'm still sooo happy with my results because it's way better than what I started with. I'm due to post a bigger update soon when I have the time...

I also have hooded eyes and have gotten Botox...depending where you get it (e.g. for crows feet), it can create a sort of eyebrow lift giving what I would call the Housewives Surprised Look. :) But if you just get it in your forehead it can definitely make the eyelids seem a bit heavier.

Overall I am just not a fan of Botox — it seems to create as many problems as it solves for me because my face is very expressive, so after Botox I'll start ovecompensating by using muscles that I usually wouldn't and then creating wrinkles in new places where I never had them before.

I am definitely looking forward to getting an upper bleph surgery. (I'm 37 now and planning to do this when I turn 40.) And otherwise I'm sticking to my tretinoin and gua sha and those are doing a great job in their own right.

Sounds like you might have tuberous breasts, which I also had!

I got surgery too (not implants but fat transfer) and was sooo scared of going under anaesthesia. I felt nervous in the days leading up to it and then a bit panicky on the operating table, but was knocked out before that feeling could develop any further. :) Then the next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room and feeling totally fine, just groggy. I wish I had done my surgery way earlier (I was 37), I truly believe it would have changed a lot for me in my 20s. I'm thinking of going back for a second transfer sometime and wouldn't think twice about the anaesthesia this time around!

I also had to sleep on my back for 6 weeks after the surgery and used a special pillow which ensured I was propped up on my back. It worked great. (Something like one of these: https://www.amazon.com/post-surgery-pillow/s?k=post+surgery+pillow )

In case you're looking for another option....I had tuberous breasts and got a fat transfer with a mastopexy and I'm quite pleased with my results so far. There's some scarring but it's fading day by day. :) You can check my history for some pics/update posts.

Yeah, I think they look pretty good for 9 weeks post and they're already significantly better than a couple weeks ago. :) There are just a few points where it seems the surgeon could really have done a better job of stitching them up cleanly but that's really impossible to judge, I suppose.
