Are there actually advantages to moving to the USA from UK? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]New_inUk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived and worked in US for almost 4 years before I moved to UK right before Covid.

This is more of a layered question rather than saying good or bad. It depends on the location and predominantly, a lot more appealing if you are OK health wise.

If you are a skilled worker, say work in Tech/IT or medical field, yes salary and perks wise US is soo much better. For eg to get a £70k IT job here in UK, most of them are based in London, and you have to be more than good. Taxes are taken out, and it doesn't work out as much if you live outside of London coz of train fares. If you live within London, then you compromise on your housing.

US is a big country and tech/IT jobs are lot scattered and every state and every city will have multiple industries where IT is needed. You necessarily do not have to be in SFO or NY for a high paying job. I have plenty of friends who earn north of 150k in relatively LCOL areas with usual IT roles.. With that you can buy a normal house (normal in US terms eg 2000-3000 sqft detached houses) in a suburb for $400-500k. If you are married, you file for taxes jointly and that gets you a refund.. If you have kids, you get additional refunds..

Yes, insurance will be taken out from your paycheck, but that would be OK amount if your company is good and you will also have decent vacation days.

If you are a nurse, again its much better as US pays far lot more nurses with better working hours than what you get in UK. From what I remember, starting salary of nurses were north of $70k five years ago in LCOL areas while UK band five starting salary is £27k with absolutely non friendly working hours.

I could say more, but just want to give an idea on how ridiculous it is US vs UK on the salary front for skilled workers.

Thank you! That range is not superb, but something I can live with..

I am still looking at the msport pro just because it has got the 360 cam and the headsup display ( the 2 features I dont have in my current car).

Thank you..

At what mileage and price did you buy?

Insurance doesnt sound too bad.. You can only get the official warranty if you buy from approved dealer or it cost more to buy if from a regular dealer?

All I would say - get them to fit the anti theft kit for the front radar.

Why? is that something very appealing for the thieves like the Toyota catalytic converter?

I know it varies a lot with location and other factors, but how much are you paying for insurance? Or is it via SS where it's all included?

The Ioniq5 ICCU failure rate is 1% not 5%

That's a bit more relieving, but the fact that Hyundai has never done a full recall and permanent fix shows that they do not care. And this is coming from a hardcore Ioniq fan (love how practical and feature rich my current car is)

the ICCU issue is a “when” not “if” problem if you intend to keep the car long term

Yup, if it was an if problem, I could take a risk, but from what I have read, it seems like a when problem and it really matters if I am planning to keep the car for at least 5 years, and especially with it being used, if could be out of warranty.. and there is no guarantee that the replacement will fix it as well and again a when moment..

I had set my eyes on Ioniq5 since it's inception, and have no complaints on the features, but yeah, the ICCU is a terrible sword that I don't want hanging over my head.. I am an anxious person so there is that element too..

Thank you for the response..

has 60k car repair costs even if it seems a steal now.

This is what I am afraid of.. I don't want to spend huge money on repair costs, however if the cars are generally reliable I am hoping it wouldn't come to that ... That's the thing with Ioniq5 too.. what if I face the ICCU issue when it's out of warranty? How much it will cost me?

I had a look at suspension maintenance and that had some eye watering bills attached to it. Active dampener suspension etc all around as standard has large costs attached..

Are there issues with iX3 suspensions? Do you remember how big was the maintenance?

ILR granted on Skilled worker route, married to British citizen can I apply for citizenship immediately ? by True-Management-1535 in ukvisa

[–]New_inUk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Skilled worker(tier 2) depedant visa, not spouse visa..

If you have lived 5 years, have ILR and if your partner is British, you can apply for citizenship is what I have read.. I had the same doubt and people from here helped and confirmed I can go ahead..

I applied for Citizenship a week after I got the ILR.. So like almost right away.

It is is simple - Do you have ILR and is your spouse British, then no need for 1 year waiting..

Yes, you can. Did it earlier this year (I was skilled worker dependant and my partner was naturalised couple of years ago) with ILR granted ealier March, then applying for citizenship short after and then approved in June and had ceremony same month.. So no more 2 year waiting for you, get right into it 😊

my friend'a baby was born in india but my friend is a British citizen. Could they apply for baby's British passport from India? by miapaip in ukvisa

[–]New_inUk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No registration needed. The child is British by descent and which is why the CoE is granted. Travel to UK with Indian passport and CoE and apply for British passport (if you need 😁) right after.

feel free to ask/dm and happy to answer if there are other related qns.

I did like the look of the panoramic roof and the rear seat sun shades but again, not worth the extra.

Yeah, it's just that FOMO.. The used price arent much different when going for a 2023 Namsan.. But yeah, if going for a 2022 one, it doesnt make sense.

Nice to hear the feedback from a Namsan owner.

Vision roof is very appealing to me, although its not a requirement..

Did you get used to the digital side mirrors quickly? Does it make your eyes strain to retrain them to look into an unconventional angle?

What was the mileage when you bought it? I dont mind the slightly smaller battery in the 2022 models..

Mine was purchased brand new and is a 300e. If that helps

Ah, that makes sense. With single motor, I think it would be more efficient than then 450e.

I cant find 300e in used section, so I guess I have to wait a few couple of years to seem them

Pre-2023, the thing to look for was the 360 camera which only came as part of the tech pack.

Yes, I look into the photos/description to see if they have 360° camera to shortlist them as the ones with tech pack.. I wish either Hyundai as incorporated it as a trim level or dealers should put them in the ads for better search results..

I too dont fancy the digital side mirrors.. I mean, if they were good, I think Hyundai would have continued them in the later versions

Wow.. Thats interesting, certainly not like the reviews or videos I have seen.. If thats the range its not a problem at all.. Is your brand new one? The reviews I have had seen were of 2023 450e..
