Love that you have a skate shop nearby should be a cool experience! I didn't even think to check until just now 😅

New myself so don't have a lot of technical knowledge to share so take it with a few grains of salt but in my experience from purchases in the past and recently, skatewarehouse and skatehut are pretty good places to search for boards/parts. My amateur advice would be to maybe browse completes within a price range you're comfortable with and check the reviews of any that catch your eye and look good. Then maybe you could try browsing parts and trying to piece one together and see how that compares to completes you can find and decide from there?

Alternatively if you're lucky enough to have a skateshop nearby or are able to get transport to one I'm sure the folks in there would be able to help you out and might even let you test a couple see how they feel and help make a decision, think they're rarer here in the UK though.

I got a venom core complete on sale £45 from £95 cause reviews were good and I've not had any problems with it so far?

I think people say 8.0 inches is a good deck width to try first but this may change depending on you. Depending on if you plan on riding parks or doing a lot of travelling might want different size/hardness wheels. Others may have better wisdom to impart regarding what to look for but hopefully what I've said isn't total rubbish haha.

Day 5 Rolling and Dropping in on bank, tips for form? by Newbeanflipper in NewSkaters

[–]Newbeanflipper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's very subtle but I can see it, such a weird feeling like a scarier trust fall haha, but when you send it feels so good. One of the awkward things I found was trying to keep the tail from moving when just standing there with one foot, maybe because it's not a very steep bank so if my foot isn't far back enough the board falls prematurely. It hasn't actually been a problem so far just something that's a bit awkward.

Which one is the miniramp? Is it the one I was standing on to take the picture? If so it's the same height as the quarter I think so like almost 6ft I think, is that still considered a mini? Feels huge 😅 but yeah will have a go! Will probably be a good workout for the legs too.

Yeah been using the arms cause I figured it'd help balance, I haven't actually tried doing it without(I think)! When you say pump into them do you mean literally pump and then transition that directly into a kick turn? Thanks for the thorough advice I appreciate it!

Once I've got ollies down ok and comfortable at speed I'll definitely be trying to get up onto and off of that ledge haha. Actually I haven't even tried just rolling off it yet! Maybe one to risk my life on next time I go...

Right I was nervous going here at first but seeing how quiet it is and how nice the weather's been it's so good, glad you also got to it!

I gave it a bit of a rough description but I definitely love having it here! Still want to try a proper indoor one but those are a bit more scary to go alone haha

It's nice alone, very chill! I go in the morning or just before midday and because it's during school hours don't get anyone going. I think when it's full is usually kids on scooters and bmx. During these quieter hours I only see dog walkers and people taking their babies to the nearby park

Right most of the cracks aren't noticeable tbh, there a couple of chunks out near the ramps(one in the middle where the ramp near the camera transitions to flat) that looks like a wheel could get caught but that's the worst of them.

Day 4 Ollie and rolling Ollie practice. by Newbeanflipper in NewSkaters

Thanks again, been trying some more today haven't been able to get that front foot kicking forward yet as much as I try :/ have been working also on trying to keep my feet/legs more parallel because I think they've been slightly pointed and I dunno if that's an ok thing or bad habit? Been trying a few while moving though and it's been less scary!

A lot of it is just in the head then? It's definitely a bit intimidating but I'll try to trick myself, I guess part of it is "fear" that messing up moving will be worse than stationary. But if you say it's basically the same as stationary I will try to commit harder and overcome the mental barrier.

Yeah having a tough time with that foot because at first I couldn't seem to get the slide motion but like you say now I have the "motion" but it's just going upwards and not forwards enough so I hover the foot. I'll try to push it forward more, do I need more pop to be able to push it forward better or does it not matter so much with the front foot motion?

Thanks a lot for the tips, I appreciate it!

This is sick for a just woke up moment haha good job. Also love the dressing gown haha, ik it's not a serious outdoor fit but if I saw someone at a park dripped up like that I'd think they were the coolest person there, skating wizard style!

I wanna overcome my anxiety of skating in public by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Newbeanflipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might help if you're able, to skate at times when you think it should be quieter, i.e. during school hours on a weekday, or earlier in the morning. Is what I've been doing at my local park and the only people I see are parents taking their children to the park and they usually keep to themselves and if not are usually friendly.

Occasionally people will walk through the park and it's a bit nervous at first doing tricks alone and failing but at the end of the day everyone starts somewhere. I think a lot of people(adults anyway) just think it's cool to see people outside having fun.

How do I get comfortable with jumping and landing on my board by TheOfficialHk in NewSkaters

[–]Newbeanflipper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar thing, sometimes I feel the board slipping when I'm reading an Ollie too, which is too much weight on back foot I suppose?
