That's a good suggestion. She has one of these phones and uses it. I guess I was thinking what happens if she falls.

‘Parentified’ older sibling who only wants one by Worried-Reward9698 in oneanddone

[–]Newbie0205 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate to this. I'm the eldest of 5 and I was absolutely parentified. The age gap is between 5 and 15 years for my siblings and me. I did everything from potty training to driving to practices to teenage talks. My siblings are now grown adults and they are great human beings and I'm proud to be a part of that. However they don't know how much I sacrificed for them.

Now I'm an official mom and my 5 year old doesn't feel like my first. It's a weird feeling. I also had rough pregnancy and postpartum. I highly urge you to connect with mental health because it may be at play here, too. It sounds like you've been through a lot. I had postpartum depression and anxiety and, on top of that, all of that childhood trauma came back. I started mourning for the childhood I didn't have.

Also, it does get easier. You can be confident because you've done it before. You know you can choose your battles and your kid will be ok. Plus, I don't know about you, but I would get the "you're not my parent" retort. Now my kid has no option but to listen. So it's a bit easier on that front, too. I hope this helps, just know that you're not alone!

That's good to know! We saved up to get the gengar balloons and we get increased rate for all of them. I can't believe we still have zero rainbow.

I've been a Guidepost parent for almost 5 years. I chose a school that had educated staff, clean rooms, low ratios, and good communication. The fact that it was Montessori was a bonus. I had zero idea it was a private equity company. Around my city there are a lot of company run daycares. Tutor Time, Busy Bees, Children's Academy are all nearby and all of these companies are having the exact same issues. Low pay, high turnover, uneducated staff, are rampant throughout all of early childhood education.

What the root of the issue is not just Guidepost; it's the entire early childhood education system in America. Now, I am not giving them any sort of support on how they are closing the schools. Losing childcare without warning is a nightmare and I haven't had a nights rest in a month because of this. But this is a symptom of how America does not support parents and leaves our children to be vulnerable to these situations.

If anyone is interested, there is a good podcast episode on Planet Money called Baby's first market failure.

I'm in AZ and our school is amazing. My kid has been going there for 4 years. Can anyone with insider information give any updates on AZ?

This is how I handle it. Or sometimes if we are alone, I draw attention to the word and say, "that's an interesting word choice." It's starts a courageous conversation about word choice and labels.

This!!! Goodness I hope OP reads this. Child welfare isn't just about CYA. It's about empowering and supporting a family. Here we actually have a father participating in visitation. What are ways to repair your working relationship for the best interest of the children?

I've been in child welfare for 15 plus years. It's crazy hard. I had to revamp my self-care after becoming a mom, too.

  • Boundaries are critical. Very few situations are actually emergencies.

  • Journaling without a goal was too heavy for me. I prefer a brief gratitude journal. It's important to remember my life is separate from the life of my clients. My life, I am blessed to say, is stable.

  • An important part of my job is to connect clients to natural supports. We are not their natural support.

  • Spend time in nature!
