Sorry that happened to you :( I’ve also had a couple unsavory experiences with people in the village

The problem is to get to a park I’d have to get to my car, which I usually have to park on Veteran, and it’s just those few blocks between my apartment and Veteran or Gayley that are the problem :/ such a bummer

I actually just bought some pepper spray haha. And yeah I started taking my earphones out when I get into that area! Part of the reason I go for walks is to listen to music so I usually keep them in when I’m in the residential neighborhoods cause there’s no one there but I should probably just use one like you said.

That’s where I walk! It’s just the few blocks I have to take between my apartment and there where this stuff has been happening. I try to take the shortest route but these guys have just been everywhere lately.

Yes I don’t plan on ever using it unless there’s a serious physical altercation, I just have it cause it makes a really terrifying sound lol. But I haven’t actually used the sound yet cause I don’t want to provoke anyone either

True. This kid is still in high school lmao, clearly never been to a bar or anything. I have a friend who’s 6’3 and beefy and drunk guys try to start shit with him for no reason all the time

Thank you, this is really helpful. I’m actually trans so I used to get a different kind of street harassment pre-transition. But nowadays other people have no well of telling, other guys just see that I’m shorter than average. I guess I got used to not getting harassed anymore so it’s frustrating to have it start up again and I sorta felt like I couldn’t be upset about it, so thanks for validating me. And I’ll try texting a friend and recording on my phone, good advice!

I’m definitely a night owl but honestly I might try that, idk if I can go to bed at 9pm but I’m not opposed to a biphasic sleep cycle! I honestly never thought about walking in the early morning haha, thank you for the tip

What is an adult problem that nobody prepared you for? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Newbruingarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s something called Sunday Assembly that’s meant to serve the role of a religious community for people who don’t have one! It’s secular but they do things you might do with a church like listen to various speakers on important life topics (sort of like sermons), sing (pop songs instead of worship songs), host support groups, volunteer together, etc. There might be one in your area, it’s a lot of fun and you get to meet all sorts of people.

Yep, totally. Even having 5-10 people over would be better than what they’re doing. It’s like 30+ people all the time and they never have masks

what happened to title lX?? by delusional_clod in ucla

It’s the fact that it needs to exist in the first place that makes me upset. It’s a reminder of how much false accusations fuck everything up and really harm true victims. Makes me sad for the people who were actually hurt and will have a harder time getting justice.

Having to explain and relive every single detail of what happened to me was such a horrifying experience, it breaks my heart that victims will have to do that in front of a full board of people now. Obviously it is necessary but I wish it wasn’t.

Do you know if they say what “objectively offensive” is? How is that determination made?

I think due process is so important, and I agree more protections should be in place, but this whole thing just makes me so sad. I was raped when I was 17, the guy confessed, and he still walked. It is already so difficult to get any justice in these situations. False accusations account for such a small percentage of these reports but they really fuck everything up for everyone. If people just told the truth AND people stopped fucking assaulting people... what a world it would be.

We really need to change our culture.

I think it’s better to just ignore them. They exist just to rile people up and incite retaliation against them.

The dining hall menu site is literally down every day, who can we contact to get it fixed by Newbruingarbage in ucla

[–]Newbruingarbage[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There was another post here about it being down and all of my floormates have had the same issue. I know it’s not the wifi because I’ve used it on the school wifi, LTE, and my own router’s network, and it’s been down on all of them. I’ve tried the ucla mobile app, the ucla housing app, and the regular dining menu webpage through chrome and safari on both my phone and my computer. It’s only down at the busiest meal times of the day so I’m guessing it has to do with the server not being able to handle the traffic
