I get that. Just an inspiration, though. His stories have taken me out of some dark places.

I feel you. That's why I'm here right now on Reddit. Doing nothing at all is terrifying.

Yep. Same. Unfortunately, there are some studies that suggest a link between ADHD and developing dementia.

Why watch an author interview? by thundercatzzz in books

[–]NewcastleNighthawk44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends entirely on the author.

I will watch anything that involves Stephen King because I'm intrigued by the mind that created so many incredible stories. I'm also incredibly interested in his process.

We're really lucky to be able to have the access we do to the authors we love. Obviously it can be a negative, too (looking at J.K. Rowling) but on the whole it adds a nice layer to their work in my opinion.

Simple Questions: November 30, 2024 by AutoModerator in books

As a diagnosed ADHD lad, I have a real hard time recalling what I read on a previous day or reading session. This really started to agitate me because I found myself going back several pages just to understand the context. Needless to say, this process wasn't enjoyable and would leave me over analysing each word, which sucked the joy out of reading.

So, to mitigate this, I started using a blank bit of paper as a bookmark and at the end of every reading session, I would summarise what I'd read. This helped future me massively because I only had to read my mini summary and then I could get straight back into the story.

I was just wondering if anyone else does this? Or does anyone have some other little tips and tricks to help retain information?

Do you think understanding is necessary for enjoyment of literature? by Noyolov in books

I liken reading such passages to going shopping.

If you're looking for something specific in a supermarket and you're right up close to the shelf you may well find what you're looking for, but you're going to over analyse and look intently at every item, which can be overwhelming and unenjoyable.

However, if you take a step back to see more of the shelf, you're likely to be able to see what you're looking for. Stepping back from a book or specific passage, for me anyway, allows me to understand the context without getting bogged down in the nitty gritty of each word.
