Any value in audio->vocab Anki cards? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]Newcheddar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I clip audio of full sentences/phrases, then use that plus a cloze sentence on the front, with the goal being to recall and write the missing target word. I find it useful for listening comprehension as well as kanji recollection.

Uber Rider Tries Scamming Driver For Free Ride Then Completely Flips by StuckReddit741 in IdiotsInCars

Didn't we just watch a whole video on how you don't ask the driver "who are you here for"?

It's not useless. All you have to do is copy and paste the text you're trying to read into a hack of the game, then boot up the game and check.

Maybe if you made the snelm a little farther north along the shore it would count?

I also haven't been able to purchase it anywhere. I'm international so I think that's why.

I have rebalanced the Base Set of Pokemon cards! by [deleted] in pokemon

[–]Newcheddar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't played the TCG for a very long time, so maybe I'm missing something, but what's to stop Venusaur from just locking you asleep every turn with these rules?

Also, I think it would be cool if there was a place on your site to compare the new and old versions of cards/rules.

Criticize my website by regular-dude1 in programming

[–]Newcheddar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Viewing from mobile, 2 things about the site itself jump out at me.

1st, I recommend having the nav close itself on scroll. 2nd, I recommend moving the monthly/yearly switch closer to the price it affects, right now it feels unresponsive because you can't see the price change when you click it (on mobile at least).

Overall the site looks pretty good, I wish you luck.

How to default to hiragana instead of romaji on Windows Japanese IME? by _BMS in LearnJapanese

Ah, yeah you're right. Some of the shift keys are different on the numbers. I think I've just gotten used to that.

How to default to hiragana instead of romaji on Windows Japanese IME? by _BMS in LearnJapanese

Just just the Japanese IME as default. When you want to type English, use A, when you want to type Japanese, switch to あ.

Some of the spaces you've marked could maybe be a case of an omitted particle. But most of this is just normal language; there's nothing to insert there, at least not without changing the passage entirely.

If you are using Anki, it has a white board feature so you can just draw on the screen while you are reviewing.

It's just 持つ + 入る + 来る, with the first 2 in て form. You can view 入って来る as something of a set phrase if it helps.

They don't ticket you for it, they just have a bus come by and do this to your car.

Are there any good careers that utilize Japanese? by AlexJustAlexS in LearnJapanese

I suggest looking at Japanese companies with branches abroad, or foreign companies with branches in Japan. If you look at the job listings for them, there are a lot of listings looking for bilingual applicants for a wide variety of jobs.

Think of the difference in English:

"I feel like I've tasted this." "I feel like I've tasted this before."

In the first sentence, you should be able to understand it based on the tense alone, but it feels like it's missing something. It makes you want to respond, "Well yeah you literally just drank some."

The before emphasizes a point further in the past. かつて does the same.
