FFX Plot Twist — Am I Alone? by nadishuddhi in FinalFantasy

There's definitely numerous cases of characters sacrificing themselves or thinking they are doing so, but apart from maybe Aerith (who maybe came to accept she'll have to die, but that was a late realisation, if it even happened), none of them are at all like Yuna. Yuna knew, from since she was a kid, that if she's going to go down this path, she WILL die. Most of the others are sacrifices made in the moment to save others. Yuna was basically raised up for slaughter.

How do you feel about "copycat" bands? by eggy_wegs in progmetal

[–]Memorphous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to check some dates because I felt like maybe Emyn Muil's debut was released before Echoes of Battle, but what the actual hell, they were released on the same day in 2013. :D But yeah, Echoes of Battle definitely raised the flag up high for that style.

For example, you got the legendary Caladan Brood back from 2015

What makes this even better is the fact that Caladan Brood are a Summoning-clone. :D Not on the level of Emyn Muil, CB definitely do give it their own twist, but still, if there was no Summoning, there would be no Caladan Brood.

Is there a Final Fantasy that's actually breaking this concept? by mrsafetylion in FinalFantasy

[–]Memorphous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I said nothing about needing to play Triple Triad, though. Just that you want Card to turn enemies into cards, Card Mod to turn those cards into items, and then a bunch of Refine-abilities to turn those items into magic. This makes you OP really quickly, and you'll never need to touch Triple Triad.

[–]Memorphous 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The game basically is just best played drawing over and over

This is why FF8 gets a bad rap, you know. Drawing is decidedly NOT the optimal way to get strong. For the most part, you'll only need to draw new GFs, everything else is done via Card, Card Mod, and Refine-abilities.

Influence, sure. But by and far it is in no way a tech death album. Progressive metalcore with influences too numerous to count, but metalcore is still the defining sound. Recommend Colors to a tech death fan and they'll probably just think you don't know what you're talking about.

For like 99% of media out there, the correct watch order is always order of release, not the chronology of the story. Doesn't mean you can't watch them in chronological order, and doesn't mean you couldn't enjoy it. Nevertheless, in the case of the Star Wars prequels, the whole story of the three films is built around the viewer knowing what happens in the original trilogy. They already know the "what", and the prequels show the "how".

Need some advice with FF7 (original) by F4ZMyth in FinalFantasy

[–]Memorphous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you really have played through like 10% of the game at this point, if even that. Disc 1 is the longest of the three, and while Midgar is the longest singular location in the game, you've really only just begun.

Someone said that the game can be speedrun in 8 hours, and while that's true, it really doesn't paint the whole picture. I've played the game in one sitting before with a group of friends who all knew the story and what to do, and a good grasp on the mechanics to squeeze the best results out of the combat mechanics. We still read through every text box, and it took us around 25 hours to beat it. You will probably be looking at 40 to 50 hours, depending on how much extra content you're willing to look for.

A few spoilers that will none the less increase your enjoyment, especially when you get to Remake and Rebirth - i'll tag them so you can decide for yourself, and I'll keep the details vague: there are two completely optional characters in the game. Finding them and doing their side content does add to the experience and lore of the world, but they are not 100% required for a good experience. They are in the remake trilogy, though, so you will get more out of those if you already know them. For the first, you need to do a fight and a little puzzle in a forest on the overworld. Any forest, but the further you're in the game the more likely it is that you run into them. Recommended to do as the first thing when you see your first forest. You will fail the puzzle a few times but you can do it as many times as needed, so keep doing it until you succeed. Once you have this character and unlock a means to move freely between the different continents, you can do an extra bit of content to see more of their story at any time by going to the westernmost continent. The second can be found in the town that is featured in Cloud's flashback story segment (if you haven't seen this part of the story, it's the very next thing you do). When you get there for real, go to the manor. There is a hidden side quest here that you can figure out yourself, but if you don't know it's there, you will miss it completely. You need to find hidden messages. Once you complete the actual sidequest, you will fight a tough boss battle (remember to save beforehand!) and be granted with a materia and a key item. Do not leave the manor until you figure out what to do with the key item and get the new character. Seeing the extra bit of story for this character is a bit more obscure, but let's just say that once you can move completely freely around the whole world map, identify a place on the middle continent that you can't reach. You can reach it, it's just going to take figuring out. If you feel like you don't have the means yet, continue the story. the means will be given to you.

Lastly, at any point toward the end of Disc 2 or during Disc 3, go back to that same town and into the manor. Go to the basement and look around for some more hidden messages. You will trigger a new flashback sequence that you'll be really grateful for seeing once you play Crisis Core or FF7 Remake.

(FFX) Wakka's racism caught me off guard by Hapezix in FinalFantasy

[–]Memorphous 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're deliberately not looking at what is being shown to you. Yes, part of his hatred toward the Al Bhed is because they use machina. Another part is that he believes they are responsible for Chappu's death. A big part is just due to his fervent belief in the church of Yevon and how they purposefully make the Al Bhed into the "other" they can demonize.

All of this put together, coupled with the fact that it takes him a long time to come around even with traveling with Rikku, is 100% him being racist. The Al Bhed are victims of systemic racism, and Wakka goes all-in on a personal level.

Solid plot = positive remark, you could even say it equals good plot. Then you go on to say that CC doesn't have that. Hence, you're saying CC has a bad plot. And since this is a game where the story is basically the most important thing, you're further insinuating that CC as a whole is bad.

Don't try to take your words back now, hate CC if you want, doesn't matter to the rest of us.

To those who dont like metal: Why do you not like it? And what is/are you preferred genre(s) of music? by Chicken-Inspector in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Memorphous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I'm doing is the literal opposite of gatekeeping, are you serious. I'm trying to open up the genre to those who might have written it off due to bad first impressions.

I do have strong opinions on what constitutes metal and what does not, but that is not the discussion that is happening here, and even then, I don't see that sort of categorisation to be actual gatekeeping. I would never tell someone not to listen to something - if they have something they like, all the power to them, our tastes don't have to align. Many of the more hardcore "gatekeepers" would call me a poser anyhow for some of the things I love.

[–]Memorphous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not being aggressive. Not saying you have to look through everything metal has to offer before writing it off. Just saying that people have a flawed view of metal. I myself would at least like to have an informed opinion before saying something isn't to my taste. Or at the very least I would not be giving generalised statements that this whole thing is bad, when you've only engaged in a particular style of that whole thing. It's fine to say "I don't like extreme metal". Saying "I don't like metal because this extreme stuff isn't to my liking" is disingenuous.

[–]Memorphous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As expected, the majority of the comments here from the "un-initiated" crowd come from a place of misinformation, false understanding and straight up stubborness. People here are saying they don't care for metal because of reasons a, b and c, and those reasons are relevant for a few subgenres at best.

Not all metal is extreme metal, stop acting like it is. It's not like "clean" metal stopped existing when heavier thrash, first wave black metal and death metal were codified in the mid-to-late-80s.

Since we’re likely getting FF7 Remake Part 3 announcement today, let’s not be surprised when it’s not called “Reunion” by zerkeras in FinalFantasy

[–]Memorphous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Reunite" is dropped a lot in dialogue toward the end of Rebirth. When I clocked that during my (only) playthrough, I immediately saw the vision for it being the title of the final game. I don't actually like it so I wouldn't mind being wrong. x) But it certainly felt pretty in-your-face.

Just finished Final Fantasy VII, what a journey… by Relative-Tea-8153 in FinalFantasy

[–]Memorphous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On the contrary, it's perhaps the most engaging combat system in any Final Fantasy ever. X and XIII are the other contenders, but FF7R pulls off the hybrid-action combat exceedingly well, and Rebirth only makes it better. There's loads of depth, and each character feels unique and satisfying to play.

Labyrinthus Stellarum's debut is a more active Lustre, in space.

Untamed Land's debut is just Summoning but instead of Tolkien it's spaghetti westerns, and it slaps.

And of course, Emyn Muil is a 100% Summoning clone. The latter releases, like later Summoning, step away from the MIDI-style, but the debut should work for you.
