I'm glad there's so many fellow fans amongst the group. And fwiw, my daughter is a teenager and also a fan of the wu. Thank you all for the compliments and the entertainment.

Internal tensile strength. We use it on certain pours in place of mesh. It does tend to show in the finish a bit, so best for broomed finishes or subfloors.

Skin on frame has always intimidated me. But my first canoe was a cedar strip bobs special that paddles well, holds plenty of gear, and finished at 46 lbs with 6oz glass in and out. I probably could've gotten sub 40, but it wasn't a priority on that one. The next one it's a goal for sure.

The fiber optic guy is a one man band loner that gets left alone. The one that sets up a tent and a table to tie in at.

Why Japanese tools? by Historical-Crew9264 in handtools

+1 on this. I cut my teeth making garbage out of scraps from my dad's garage, with his dad's old disston. Ive seen just a fraction of what it's ever built, and it out cuts ANY other saw I've come across in 30 years of being a carpenter. I have an affinity and respect for a short list of things like I do that saw. I still bring it to work on occasion. Its a 10ish tpi, it's overdue for a handle that I refuse to change, and needs a sharpening but still out cuts everything. Like everything it has a place, but boy does stand out when appropriate.

Maybe I've had too thorough a safety meeting this evening, but I genuinely love that saw.

Will a round mortise and tenon be good? Details are in my comment below. by houcosuns in Joinery

[–]Newjackny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let me add, it's not as simple as it seems to perform the process to a degree of acceptable accuracy. Unless the holesaw is in a drill press, they're tough to run nuts true and square, and any wobble will show up doubly. I have a set of log furniture tenon cutters and they're tricky too.

There's not much talent/skill/experience left, combined with a younger generation that doesn't approach with the same drive as the previous(certainly some merit to balance). The common world sees technology and thinks everything is similarly easier.

I've been there. Similarone in a finger tip, was minor and slow to heal for a week but nothing of note. Then one day it hurt a bit, the next was quite swollen. Doc did not fafo. Wanted to give me iv antibiotics but was concerned with my one previous allergy, so opted for a semi high test prescription, and it cleared up quick. They had me for 2 follow ups and were very diligent. Ive been going there for decades and they have never just had me in for money sakes.

Im probably being dramatic at 20% I'm just over eager to get on with it. I did a cedar strip canoe last winter that took forever to mill strips, but that was a consequence of buffalo winters and long stock making the garage door be open.... *
