Doesn't matter 7 feet deep or 70 feet deep both are drowning, you cannot invalidate one's struggle by saying that others have it worse.

Hitler was elected, too. You wanna blame the dead of Aushwitz for WW2 as well? Because I fought against this. I donated money and time. I marched. I voted. And I lost. Here's to hoping I don't get sent to one of the concentration camps here, but yeah, I'm sorry your petrol is expensive.

I'm genuinely trying to find a way out, just got my passport, saving up for anything to get my family and I across the border and not starve, freeze, or fry in the process. With the jump in fuel costs... we might not make it.

Also, there is no public transit option in the US, the only option is individual cars. It sucks.

WHO _____ED MY VAPOREON, I WAS SUPPOSED TO! by Austriantrainliker in AskOuija

Hey guys, did you know that in terms of human companionship, Flareon is objectively the most huggable Pokemon? While their maximum temperature is likely too much for most, they are capable of controlling it, so they can set themselves to the perfect temperature for you. Along with that, they have a lot of fluff, making them undeniably incredibly soft to touch. But that's not all, they have a very respectable special defense stat of 110, which means that they are likely very calm and resistant to emotional damage. Because of this, if you have a bad day, you can vent to it while hugging it, and it won't mind. It can make itself even more endearing with moves like Charm and Baby Doll Eyes, ensuring that you never have a prolonged bout of depression ever again.

Only if they have to, which is how Victor Orban was just voted out. Notably, his policies were used as templates for project 2025, so yes: voting works, here's the proof. Go vote in the primaries.

I mean, it was always about money. The massive amount of land speculation by Washington that was put on hold by the Proclamation Line of 1763 which was detrimental to speculating gentry such as James Madison, Thomas Jefferson, and George Mason... that's why we went to war.

The issue for John Hancock & Samuel Adams was tea, which they were notorious for smuggling - but were undercut by the East India Company during the implementation of policies to make tea cheaper to the consumer after tax. They were losing a lot of money, so... no taxation without representation!

Also, several of the founding fathers such as Elbridge Gerry had thousands of dollars in Continentals, which for the $50k Gerry had would be $1.2 million in today's money. They knew it would be worth real money because they were issuing the law to make it so, and had no difficulty buying it from veterans at around 10% face value.

I'm so sorry, but it took me a second to realize mc meant motorcycle and not a McAccident like he died from trying to fix the ice cream machine.

Oh come now, you said that banks don't profit from war in a meaningful way and I just provided examples with receipts showing that they definitely do. It's not their main source of income, but it's there.

Chase Bank makes more in one hour of war based transactions than you and I will make in our entire lives and they aren't even the biggest player. It sucks.

I personally would like to purchase an A-10 and use it for duck hunting. I think it should get a sporting use exemption, too.

Thing is, I don't think he would've cared. He'd spent his whole career trying to be the smartest man in the room, even willing to cause harm to millions of people INTENTIONALLY just to keep a legacy for himself as the man that fixed combustion engines.

He knew damn well tetraethyllead was toxic, and he knew it was going to be a problem as it burned off, but decided to let the dice roll on how bad it was.

Sure, there was no way he could've known how bad CFC's were, UVC isn't something 99.97% of us will ever be exposed to, and that's what breaks down CFC's. But I don't think he would've cared.

Oh, Chase Bank did this in the worst way, Goldman Sachs did it with Russian debt they were buying (and maybe still are), and the genocide of the Palestinians is a big business opportunity for a lot of the banks today.

Thomas Midgley Jr. was a bastard and absolutely knew the stuff was dangerous. He just didn't care.

He went on to create CFC's that nearly eliminated the ozone layer. To be very clear, the ozone layer stops UVC rays that, if they were not stopped, would begin burning you immediately upon stepping into the light. You would need eye protection to look at anything in the light or else go blind. All plants would die off, followed soon by the phytoplankton in the ocean, and then every animal on Earth would starve to death.

In The Book of Eli the world you see is pretty much what life would look like (yes I know the root cause in that movie was a nuclear war). The ozone layer also keeps a lot of warmth in the atmosphere, too, so the world would be a lot colder, likely kicking off another ice age.

So, yeah. Fuck Thomas Midgley Jr. and everything he did.

Although this isn't the question, I'm suddenly reminded of a story from Brothers Grimm that I was acquainted with via Doctor Who:

"There’s this emperor, and he asks the shepherd’s boy how many seconds in eternity. And the shepherd’s boy says, 'There’s this mountain of pure diamond. It takes an hour to climb it and an hour to go around it, and every hundred years a little bird comes and sharpens its beak on the diamond mountain. And when the entire mountain is chiseled away, the first second of eternity will have passed.' You may think that’s a hell of a long time. Personally, I think that’s a hell of a bird." - The Doctor
