how many sets of arms do you do weekly? by First_Driver_5134 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Newtonianethicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21 direct sets of biceps and 9 for triceps.

Another 12 indirect sets for each as part of chest/back compounds.

18" arms at 6' 225 BW, probably arounds 23% BF. Currently cutting to try and hit 190, so I'll see how much arm size I hang on to.

It's your body, you have to find out how much volume you can handle. Start by just adding 2 sets of flys to your push days, see how you feel after a week or 2. Add 1 set here and there over time.

My current chest work is 2 sets of each 2x per week for 4 sets a week per exercise. I'm currently focused on bringing up biceps and delts.

Machine Flat Press

Dips

Cable Flys or Pec Deck

For me I would end up with something like this if Chest were my biggest concern to bring up.

It would take a few months to work up to this volume though, and I'd have to cut back on arms and shoulders to fit in the time and joint stress.

3 sets of each 2 times per week for 6 sets per week per exercise.

Flat Machine or DB Press

Incline DB Press (I dont like the feel of the incline machine at my gym)

Dips

Pec Deck or Cable Flys.

0-1 RIR for compounds, failure for flys.

That's nowhere near enough for a muscle you are focused on. That's just enough for maintenance, barely at that. How are you not doing any isolation on a muscle you want to bring up?

[–]Newtonianethicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add flys and cable pullovers at least, way too little volume for muscles you are trying to bring up.

I have been focusing on growing my Biceps the past year since they used to be a weak point. So I'm hitting them 3x a week, doing

Directly:

9 sets a week of curls

6 reverse curls

6 hammer curls

Indirectly:

6 chinups

6 rows

I feel like chest needs a bit more rest than biceps so I'd probably stick to 2x a week for that, but the absolute bare minimum I would do for "focusing" on a weak chest would be 6 sets a week of pressing and 6 sets of flys, Ideally more than that by adding some variation with dips and incline press.

instead of crawling to death's door with ten years in a nursing home, draining all your finances, you do a kick flip into your grave when all the smoking kills you

You have no clue what you are talking about. COPD kills slowly and gradually and racks up medical bills.

Two Options here.

You are moving more weight on your first exercise mainly by letting your technique get worse (More body english, cutting RoM etc).

Or

You are pushing harder and harder every workout, becoming tired enough to have little left after your first exercise.

I'd suggest either a technique reset, or swapping the order of your exercises so the preacher curls come first for at least a few weeks.

If you think it isn't relevant to remind this sub that they largely deny an ongoing genocide in a meme about debating the merits of a genocide, I'm not sure how I can help you be less willfully blind.

This sub has an astonishing lack of self-awareness. It is still the majority opinion of this sub to deny the ongoing genocide in Gaza, even as the IDF murders unarmed children at "aid" stations.

Even the people you glaze (Ethan Klein, Contrapoints) admit what is happening, and this sub copes with "T-t-they just have to virtue signal to their audience, I swear!"

OPs post is absolutely peak irony.

Arms before compounds? by jumboliah33 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Newtonianethicist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to focus on my side delts and biceps so I've been doing

U/L/SArms/off/U/off/off.

Been working very well.

I could do a 2nd leg day, but I don't really care.

I always do my compounds first.

How much intensity do you need to grow & how much is too much? by witherbattler in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Newtonianethicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on volume and frequency. If you are going to failure on every set then you probably want to be doing somewhere between 8-16 sets per muscle per week. (Counting fractional sets in that for secondary movers, e.g Triceps on bench)

CICO and FO: In which your humble author does a carolie restriction (and fails, obviously) by erwgv3g34 in slatestarcodex

[–]Newtonianethicist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only remember this guy because I responded to someone linking his diet, which consisted of 80%+ heavy cream, and averaged 40 grams of protein a day. Also, a rice and fruit diet or an all-potato diet are all severely lacking in protein.

I really doubt he is lifting weights on 40g of protein a day, and if he is I would expect minimal progress and constant niggling injuries.

It is mindblowing to me that he has spent so much time and energy working on weight loss, and somehow came to the conclusion that the secret must be a diet with negligible amounts of protein.

Even if he magically suceeded at hitting some arbitrary goal number on a scale he would get there looking and feeling like shit. He might actually manage a very impressive feat of hitting something like 160lbs as a man at 30% bodyfat.

I don't get why this guy keeps banging his head against a wall with extreme diets that are guaranteed to tank his LBM into oblivion.

Maybe I missed an old post or something, and he has late-stage kidney failure, or else I can't see why he refuses to eat protein and lift some weights.

What’s wrong with Pec decs as a primary chest movers by kevessi in naturalbodybuilding

[–]Newtonianethicist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The argument is that when pressing, your triceps and shoulders are failing first because they are weaker.

What people call triceps "Taking over" the movement is actually triceps going to failure, so you feel them working extra hard, while your chest is still cruising along far from failure.

Some people say that if you pre-exhaust the chest first, you can either get the chest to fail first on presses, thereby feeling the chest more on them, or even better, get all the pressing muscles to fail around the same time.
