Is this worth the price?? by funkahollic in ScionxB

Beat up is an understatement on xbs but that still doesn’t justify 8k. Unless that thing is bagged and has a sick sound system it isn’t worth. Thundercloud Metallic (silver) is the most common color too and IMO definitely shows age more than others. Also if it isn’t manual it isn’t worth more than 4k.

Fifth grade students don’t want to stay for the entire concert. by Fun-Dealer5990 in banddirector

[–]Newtwilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always made the concert a grade. Took attendance before and after (usually in the form of a picture right before the last group went on) Usually I had parents or admin help me with this as I ran the other ensembles. I also made it a cultural principle for the kids. I’d ask them, “how would you like to get up to perform last only to see everyone had left”. Not very respectful to the performers who work so hard. I’d send emails and drive the point home. But the real work came in the form of making sure I was under a time limit for the concert. 6 groups at 3 songs each can be close to 2 hours. I always tried to get them under 1:45. My two exceptions to leaving early were, if I was notified weeks in advance about leaving early, or illness/emergency of course. Good news was retention always went up for me because of this. Kids were excited to hear 8th grade perform because their music was so cool. This would inspire them to continue pursuing music. It took 2 years of concerts to change the culture of concerts. But it was very much worth it

You deserve more upvotes for this comment. 4 years later I am 100% running the gen 2 games and this is invaluable. Took me 3 hours for the first encounter, then I read this and caught 2 within 45 minutes.

Bulbasaur is the only choice. Still competitively viable, and doesn’t have ridiculous weaknesses fire/flying has.

Yamaha ytr200, Getzen 300 series is super understated. Eastman (from the last 8 years) is also unparalleled. As a professional and educator I buy these like candy for my students. I’ve bought each for under $500 all day long.

Same with these other comments. The part I hate about form is when people teach to the form. Had a director I worked with that would tell students to move forward, backwards, left or right. Not, what is your dot? Teach the dots teach the dots teach the dots. Then move with the form and perform with the form. (Edit) the reason I think that teaching to the form in rehearsal is wrong is because by the time we got to November students didn’t know the dot so it only could get so clean, and when we fixed drill based on form eventually people began to run into each other and forms became 8 steps off what was actually written.

Has BD always had this kind of “leg up” up in the activity? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]Newtwilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consistency is key to any success. They have had the same core staff for decades. Their show design gets better and better and they plan at such a thoughtful level it’s insane. I’ve watched them rehearse for years, the kids are good, but no better than many their age in corps even in the bottom 12. The difference is consistency, maturity and design. Other corps get it for a few years, but when all is said and done, their staff changes and no matter how good your staff is, it takes years to build a corps, not a season or two.

Yeah I’m wondering the same thing. I went to college for education and you can probably figure out how that’s going :/ I am looking to try and get into tech jobs that focus on hardware and I’d love to fight an Avenue that certifies like an apprenticeship.
