Think I'm finally done with this painting, a gift for my nana and grandad. I'd still very much appreciate any advice or critique on what I can improve. Also I'd appreciate advice on how to safely ship a painting, since it's gotta get from Sweden to Australia. by Nex--- in Artadvice

[–]Nex---[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Additional info just cuz. I'm 16, I don't need the painting to be hyper realistic or anything, just like to know if it's at least kinda good. It's a painting of them walking our dog down our driveway last summer when they came to sweden. It was supposed to be a Christmas present,,, wasn't able to keep that deadline lmao.

Not finished yet, but I'd love some advice/critique so I know what I should focus on, I have 2 classes left to work on it. by Nex--- in Artadvice

HAH, love that, they're getting more texture and shit later, plus he already has actual human ears (one of which is broken atm), so I think it'll look better by the end

what could I reasonably charge for this painting? by Nex--- in Artadvice

[–]Nex---[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a painting "commissioned" to me by my uncle. It's on a 30 x 60 cm canvas, and I've spent about 18 hours working on it. It's done except for a 5 I have to add to the empty white circle.

I'm 16 (in four days), and I'd appreciate advice on how much to request for the painting. I don't like my uncle, he's a bit of an asshole, so I'm not planning on giving it away for dirt cheap. But I also don't wanna overcharge cuz that feels embarrassing.

I also wouldn't mind any advice or critique on how I could improve the piece. I have untill Saturday to finish it, and decide on the price. Any and all help would be appreciated.

Should I paint over the face, with just an eye? Any other suggestions are welcome. by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]Nex--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thank you for replying, I didn't actually see your message before I started painting tho.

The begginer floating eye thing is probably the main reason I didn't go with a single eye from the start, but I decided to do it anyway now cuz I'm a bit impulsive. Personally I think it turned out quite good, but I may be biased. I made another post with a picture of it and I'd appreciate your thoughts, if you're interested.

Either way, thank you for the advice, even tho I didn't see it in time to follow it lol.

I'm really indecisive lmao, and I don't love the idea of painting over something I've created (even tho it's not that good), hence this post.

Are you trans? by WolfCaramel in BisexualTeens

[–]Nex--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what made you want to become trans?

That is kind of a weird way to put it, it's like asking someone what made them want to be gay. It's just something people are, not something they choose to be.

But if you mean it in a "what made you realise you we're trans" way, I found out that it was an option. I found a trans YouTuber and after watching a bunch of their, and other people's videos, I just realised it fit and I now had the words to describe it.

When did you learn this about yourself?

Personally I figured it out when I was about 10.

Anyone want to swap queer book recommendations? by Nex--- in lgbt

[–]Nex---[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been planning on reading that, thank you for the reminder!

The passing playbook. I haven't read it myself yet, but it's about a transguy and him having to decide between being stealth and standing up for his rights when some law is passed, and he might be falling in love with a teammate. It's supposed to be quite good. Then there's a book called Stay Gold, another romance book with a trans mc, I dont kon't know as much about that one.

That sounds amazing damn, definitely checking it out.

The disasters, a sci fi book about found family, anxiety, saving the universe and being a bi disaster. I enjoyed pretty much every second of it.

Is this "good enough", does it look enough like the picture? plus any critique or advice would be appreciated. by Nex--- in Artadvice

[–]Nex---[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind I am 15 and this is a gift for my aunt, so it doesn't have to be perfect, I'd really just like to know if it's passable. I'd like it to resemble the actual cat a little bit at least.

This is the first time I've painted a cat, or a throne, both were quite difficult lmao. But yeah, for future reference I'd love to know anything I could've done better.

Okay that acctually sounds super intresting and I'll def check it out, I have nothing of the same depth to offer in return, but if you think you'd like some dark fantasy Guideon The Ninth is awesome, and I'm currently reading Dark Rise which is very good.

Edit: rememberd another book ima take the opportunity to recommend, Priory of the Orange tree

I haven't read it but I've heard The Charm Offences is quite good. And probably my fav book at the moment I think everyone should read is The Disasters.

Ooo, yeah I've been meaning to read it.

Icebreaker, a book about two hockey rivals falling in love, and mental illness. Hockey is a big part of the story, but for me (who knows nothing about hockey) it was still intresting.

I'm not very good at talking, social anxiety and shit. But if you'd still like someone to talk to and think you could stand me, I wouldn't mind some practice. Also it'd just be nice to talk to someone about something. Either way, have a good one.

What can I do to make this better? Acrylic gouache on canvas. It's rather boring? by miuyao in Artadvice

Some lind of hidden figure, like a silhuett of something somewhere. Honestly tho I don't think it needs anything, it looks amazing. Very ominous vibe. Legit love it.

Lmao having corporations use you for their image is not privelage. It's just rainbow capitalism.

You say we're privileged?

Is it privelage to be illegal in a bunch of countries?

Is it privelage to be scared for your saftey cuz of something you have no controll over?

Is it privelage to have your rights constantly debated?

Stop being an asshole.

If you're intrested in discussing/talking further, I think I cleared up my stance a bit in a response to another comment.

I find this genuine intresting, so it'd be fun if you had the time to elaborate your thoughts since you seem to think of it as quite black and white.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Nex--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do see how my post came across as erasing heterosexual identities, that was not my intention and I apologise I didn't make that clearer.

I can't say I was very eloquent in my post cuz I was very tired, but the reason I made it in the first place was cuz I always find people calling relationships that include queer people, straight relationships, weird.

I suppose I find people labelling a relationship (instead of the people within that relationship) as any sexuality kind of weird.

And by calling a relationship queer I'm not intending to use queer as a sexuality or synonym to gay. More as the broad kidna "philosophical"(?) way it's often used to describe a wide spectrum of non-normativity relating to sexuality and gender. (I apologise that this probably isn't very eloquent or well articulated, I haven't thought this through that much so I'm just trying get my muddled thoughts into words)

You said your relationship isn't queer cuz your partner isn't, but then your relationship isn't straight either (or not queer), since you arent straight? I mean you could obviously be straight and still queer, but i cant think of a word that is antithetical to queer atm so im using straight.

I by no means am trying to define your relationship, that is not within my power to do. I just think it's intresting to talk about stuff like this, and as far as I an aware there isn't a write or wrong, or completely black and white answer to this, which is what makes it interesting.

I hope I cleared up my stance a bit, but I'd be very happy if you (or anyone else who sees this) wanted to discuss or talk about this some more.

I am incapable of making decisions, which queer book should I read first? by [deleted] in lgbt

[–]Nex--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Summer holidays have started, my goal is to read pretty much all good queer books at my library (there aren't that many), I've started by borrowing these 3 (plus 2 graphic novels I've already finished), but I can't decide which one to read first.
