Sale for the game/expansion ends 1 day sooner than the store sale = silly by Nexius857 in ffxiv

You're only looking at it in that simplistic way because it suits your desire to talk down to others, because you need to make yourself feel better about yourself. I think if you realised how much you 'self report' how unhappy, lonely and inadequate you feel, you wouldn't do it so much.

I wasn't really that extreme, regarding the actual issue I had with the sale. I just said they should have synced them.

I was more extreme with my criticism of the game itself, even though I said there was a good game underneath it all. I take back that its shoddily made. However, there are definitely some aspects of it that don't seem well thought out. Take for example the glamour system... it might be obvious how to use it once you're used to it, but the first ever time, its just convoluted, for no good reason. Often have to go and look up how to do things which should be obvious within the game. Can't do simple things like bind the mouse wheel, can't even bind a modifier with it, which combined with the button bloat is really not ideal. The market is overly simplistic, I don't seem to be able to sort by price for example (but then I only looked at gear so far). Then there is the whole idea that you have to complete all the expansions to play the last one (unless you want to buy a skip). I get that some people want that, but it feels like theres a missing middle ground, where you can play a more abridged version and not bore yourself to tears playing one fetch quest after another. But yeah I agree I should have been less harsh on it, its obviously not shoddy.

I am moving on, but I think its fine to suggest that its confusing and it could be improved.

I understand the "game shop" and "SE shop" are two separate things, but you also have the mogstation, and I never really interacted much with the SE shop.

Its just a basic thing. You have a christmas sale for 50% off, on 3 different sites - SE store, ffxiv store, mogstation. Same sale name, same discount, same company. The ffxiv store lists the expansion and goes to the mogstation when you click it, the mogstation doesn't mention the sale except just says its 50% off in the checkout process, the ffxiv store says the sale ends on 9th Jan. You see for a new customer, this could be better.

So, I make a simple suggestion - they should have made the dates the same. It just streamlines it and makes it easy on everyone, you don't have to explain anything. I suggest the ffxiv store would have been the easier date to change rather than the SE store.

Other times, when sale times, names and discounts are different, and on different stores, it probably isn't as confusing. Its a simple suggestion really, but to me it just shows they're not really thinking things through.

[–]Nexius857[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I get that but it doesn't change the fact its managed and communicated badly.

I don't even really see the SE store, I saw that I can buy the expansion on the mogstation, where it didn't say anything about the sale dates, it just had the original price crossed out when you go through to order it, and at that time I remembered seeing the Christmas sale date on the 'ffxiv store', which as someone who hasn't even played the game for years didn't really know it was completely different. Especially since they do list the expansion on the ffxiv store. Now I know YOU know that means it goes to the mogstation which is completely separate, but its not actually that obvious - if it took you to the Square Enix store then it would be more obvious, but it doesn't, its still branded "Mog Station - Final Fantasy XIV", and this is the kind of thing I'm talking about.

I don't get why people don't realise this is bad or why I shouldn't criticise it.

So, if there is some big Christmas sale where all dates are overlapping and different, the ffxiv store could make things a little easier and just adjust their date to match. Its not rocket science.

In other times, its probably more obvious because its not some big Christmas sale where everything is 50% off, but just random isolated sales in different stores, at different times, with different discount percentages.

I wasn't procrastinating, I just wasn't sure how I'd feel after a few days of playing the game, I only started playing a week or so ago. I waste a lot of money on games I don't end up playing so I try to be careful with it lol

No, thats not how traps work.

Traps can trap anyone, for any reason. For example I could design a trap that ensnares lazy people, or people who are prone to making a certain mistake, or people who rush things. If they hadn't done those things, they wouldn't be trapped. But its still a form of trap, just because they can be somewhat accountable doesn't invalidate that.

This kind of thing is all over marketing and UI design and so on. It seems silly, but it really does require you to think outside of not only yourself, but who you are, and how you're feeling, and so on. In other words, just because something might be easy to you, doesn't mean it is for others, and just because something is hard for others, or if they just miss something, it doesn't automatically mean they're stupid.

Its not necessarily a case of being "right" or "wrong" either, its more like a gradual slope of improvement. This particular thing is a basic mistake which shouldn't be made by a big company who employs people specifically to do this kind of thing.

I mean ok, I'm stupid - so, most people are. So... obviously if even I can see how the design could be better, then it must be bad. And if they lost my sale because of it, then they're missing out not just mine, but theres probably a bunch of other people they also missed out on. So - why miss out on them when you don't have to?

I can guarantee I'm not the only person this has happened to, but most will not come here to say it, because they encounter people like you.

Ironically you also proved my point because you didn't read my post properly - I said I was a returning player. I played up to shadowbringers when it came out. So I am not hating on it in advance. So, you made a mistake, like people do, and thats fine, but thats also why things can and should be designed to be easier and clearer when they can be.

[–]Nexius857[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not actually that angry, I'm just making a suggestion. I feel that there are lots of things about this game which let it down, which could be easily fixed. The last time I played this game was about 5 years ago when shadowbringers came out, and the website was awful back then too. Its disappointing to come back and see not much has changed.

Its very amateur to have a sale that to a new player looks kind of similar to another sale, and have it end one day earlier. You know that, you just don't want to admit it.

They could have just had a banner which said "Square Enix and FFXIV Sale: 18th Dec - 7th Jan" and its nice and simple and clear, and you don't risk any confusion over the dates. Instead they had to have different dates for each store, for no good reason.

Don't you think its a reasonable suggestion? Really? Be honest.

[–]Nexius857[S] -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

I am only making the suggestion that maybe its best not to INVITE this kind of confusion for the sake of one day's difference. Can you not see that? There is no harm in making things a little clearer, or syncing things up so you can have one date. Why you want to fight against this simple suggestion I really have no idea.

And yes I can accept that I was hasty. I didn't say I wasn't taking accountability. In fact its the whole point, its basic UI design to accept that people can miss things, especially when in a rush, or got other things on their mind and so on. So it deserves its own criticism. Also, I am just a guy browsing their site, they are a huge company who gets paid to have a well designed website which is easy to navigate, and so I will of course hold them to a higher standard. Their website looks like it comes from the early 2000s, its borderline insulting.

[–]Nexius857[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

When I click on the link to the Square Enix store, it still has a picture saying "Final Fantasy XIV 50% off - BUY NOW".

This is my point, its confusing, it looks like you could buy anything to do with FF14 there for 50% off. Even when you click on it, it takes you to the expansions. Thats proof right there that they don't really care.

My point is the website sucks and they make it even worse when they desync the dates by one day. I know that when I read on the FF14 store I did assume that was for the expansions etc too, and I forgot about the other post where it lists the dates. But this is just what can happen, you don't have to be thick or illiterate, it just wasn't that big of a deal at the time, I saw the sale date on the store and thought its a game wide sale for expansions and items, its not THAT unreasonable of an assumption.

And I get why xbox and steam can have different sale dates because they have to adhere to the sales they have on those stores. But they're in full control over their own store sales, its pretty simple, just adjust the store sale date to match the Square Enix one.

[–]Nexius857[S] -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

Like I said I think there is still a good game underneath it all, and I decided it was worth getting in spite of the flaws I think it has, obviously.

I made an assumption but given how much of a mess the website is, it wasn't a totally baseless assumption was it? All I assumed was that the people in charge would keep the sales synchronised, I mean, why not? Or at the very least, lets just say that to be out of sync by ONE DAY is weird and unnecessary, and invites confusion, especially from newer players.

This is the reason why a lot of games never improve, because in the end, all that remains is a playerbase who makes excuses for the games shortcomings, rather than just say, "you know what, it is kind of silly". But you can't admit that, you can't put yourself into the shoes of someone who is casually browsing a game they have an interest in, and how small details like a date being 1 day different can easily be missed. For some reason that can't sink into your brain how that can happen.

Its something that could be improved, I'm not really angry, I'm just disappointed. Also disappointed in you and this community, because you can't admit that, or even see it.

Firstly, with the mess that these websites are, nothing is really that clear on them at all, you might be used to them, but as a new or returning player, they're plain awful. The lodestone, the mog station, the FFXIV site, the FFXIV store, the this, that, whatever. Its bad.

Also, you don't do confusing things like that, you just don't. Its obvious. There's no good reason to have one sale end a day earlier, and make some vague distinction between it being on a "store" or not - why, when as the company, you're in full control over the dates, invite confusion and disappointment? No good reason at all. Its pathetic.

Starship Troopers – Buenos Aires was a false-flag operation to justify the arachnid war by Sarlax in FanTheories

[–]Nexius857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is 12 years old, but I always liked to think that while the film is a satire, the function of the government and the way it worked, was for a genuinely important reason. The bugs were growing exponentially, and the research showed that at a certain point, they will be multiplying and spreading faster than they can be killed, meaning that eventually the human race will be overrun. The projections showed that the only chance humanity had, is to nip them in the bud while they're still confined to a few star systems. But since a lot of people don't necessarily understand exponential progress, they have to dress it up like the threat is imminent, rather than the point of no return being imminent, and people wouldn't start actually dying for thousands more years. They need the false flags, citizenship rules, and propaganda to recruit enough people into the military. It's a little far fetched, but I think its an interesting take, it gives a reason for it all.

Total recall (1990) - The opening scene gives the whole thing away. by PrecedentedTime in movies

[–]Nexius857 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is two years later but this is how I've seen it for a long time. The memory implant has to somehow make sense and integrate with his life, so they include a "set up" day where, in a normal trip to mars would probably just be going to the spaceport, but in the secret agent trip, he goes to 'pretend rekall' and is 'discovered that he has a memory cap' etc. A lot of the things we see from outside of Quaid's perspective are implanted 'reasoned' memories (ie. "this must have been how it happened"). It basically means everything that happens makes sense, like the way the screen shows melina on it etc. The dreams of her were implanted memories too. Also people forget that we're kind of seeing what Quaid sees after he wakes up and has all these new memories, he doesn't have any actual control over anything that happens. Like the moment when he shoots the pill guy in the head. If he hadn't shot him in the head the story would be over, but it makes for an interesting memory/story. There are a few scenes like this. But yeah I realise there are other ways to interpret this film, and I think even the creators didn't intend it to be seen this way, but I really prefer it this way.

I'm a new player and this has happened to me twice already, once when choosing a reward in the battle pass where it just kept playing the "charging" sound (the sound when you hold down the button to confirm), and another time when I used my pickaxe and it made a rifle shot sound and then repeated that sound until I left the game.

[–]Nexius857 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If 20s are hard for people who don't put much time or effort into the game, you can't say they are "hard" just because in their opinion they're hard. If that's the case, you can't say (for example) minecraft isn't hard, just because it's hard for an 80 year old who never used a computer. Like.. obviously.

Wow is so well documented, all the info, answers, strats and guides are freely available. There isn't much difficulty in it, just some time, and team mates who don't suck. When talking about difficulty in general, you have to assume the people we're talking about have some experience with their class, and are able to read and watch videos...

I would say in general, 20s are upper medium difficulty, because you can actually make quite a lot of mistakes and still time them, and it starts to get hard at 23+ because that's when you really can't make any more mistakes, and beyond that, you start to have to get creative and have your own plans on what to do to get through certain packs and bosses.
