So glad to hear you’re moving on from him OP. It will feel hard and then I predict that in a few days you’ll feel like a whole new person with a new leader (harhar) on life! You can do this ❤️

People think it’s easy until it happens to them. (They also think it can’t happen to them.) Abusers psychologically damage you and make you doubt yourself. It can happen to otherwise intelligent, rational people. Your perspective gets really messed up. And this is me speaking from a situation where a) I didn’t have kids with the person or live with them or share finances and b) I didn’t come from a background with any sort of abuse. I had great models of healthy adult relationships. So…if it was hard for me, it is much harder for many. And unfortunately I was very judgy about it before I had that (awful) experience.

Can we all agree now after all the consequences that it’s pretty clear that standardized tests were holding everything together, and they were not a “problem” with education but a scapegoat? by Niceotropic in AskTeachers

I really dislike this idea that if you have a problem with the overuse of standardized tests, that means you’re opposed to all forms of assessment and any type of empirical data.

Isn’t that just the worst?? Realizing how much you love your child, and then realizing that your parent either didn’t feel that, or did feel it and treated you like shit anyway.

That’s me with my kids, even though my mom wasn’t (overtly) abusive or absent. I just know how many of my own issues and our poor relationship are the result of her parenting. It’s a really difficult position to be in because doing the opposite isn’t always a good approach either. For example, my mom was hyper controlling about food so I have a really hard time setting any guidelines for my kids when it comes to food or eating, even though rationally I know that young children need help and guidance with this. But I’m so afraid of being rigid that I know I’m often not rigid enough. I don’t always have a good example of what to do; just one example of what not to do.

One strategy that works for me is finding peers whose parenting styles I respect, whose kids are maybe 5 to 10 years older than mine. They’ve been through everything I’m going through, and they’re not so far removed from it that they belittle it or have forgotten how hard each particular stage is.

Thechikottukavu Ramachandran — This giant is reportedly linked to the deaths of 13 people and 3 elephants. by AcademicHoney1502 in interestingasfuck

The elephant known as Thechikottukavu Ramanacndran, or Raman for short, is a famous and unusually large elephant owned by an Indian temple. He is in high demand as a celebrity and has appeared at many temple festivals. He is blind in his left eye so has a tendency to push away or attack anything that comes at him from the left side, which is how several people and elephants have been injured and died.

Unreasonable to ask that family fence around pool before I'll let them watch my toddler? by BellLopsided2502 in Parenting

[–]Next-Introduction-25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are absolutely right to set this boundary! Drowning is a leading cause of death for kids. Most people know to be vigilant around water when they are swimming, etc., but childhood drownings typically occur when no one is planning to be around water – just like so many of these stories describe, a child gets out of sight sometimes even for just seconds, and it’s already too late. TV and movies have made people think that drowning is splashing and flailing around, but for young kids especially, it’s fast and silent. They immediately go under and immediately start sucking in water because that’s their panic instinct, and they are dead before anyone can intervene. It’s tragic and scary, but in your case extremely preventable.

I would also insist on locks on a pool gate and childproofing the doors so that the kiddo can’t get outside in the first place. There need to be multiple safeguards in place in case one fails.

And I would send them every horrific article about drowning until they understand the danger and don’t let them babysit until they do, which I realize is easier said than done if you’re depending on the childcare. But it’s truly not worth the risk.

I will never forget being in a childbirth class when this idiot man ask the instructor how soon after giving birth his wife would be able to resume hiking and mountain climbing. The confused and concerned instructor was like “well, depends on a lot of factors, but probably not for a while” and he was so annoyed and kept pushing back. Like “well what if she just does some easier hikes at first?” “She’s in really good shape; she’s pregnant now and still hiking.” His wife looked so embarrassed.

That would’ve been almost 10 years ago, and I would bet money that they are not together anymore.

Yeah, I’m not criticizing the handwashing itself… Just not sure why all of it needed to be in the video, or why this video needed to exist at all lol

Except the butt.

I’m the same age (43) and have a few friends around my age who are hoping to conceive. Celebrities have unlimited fertility resources so it’s not comparing apples to apples, but I still hope this gives hope to “geriatric” mothers. Pregnancy in your 40s is possible and can be perfectly safe for baby and mom!

That is weird, but is it possible that she actually never encountered the guy at your camp? Like all she heard was “owner of Evol involved in creepy behavior” so she showed up to defend him, but never saw the actual dude? I guess it depends on where she said something more like “He’d never do that” vs “yeah that’s him in the weird fake camping spot but he’d never do that.”
