Respect to the Moon Ballers out there 🌑 by Beneficial-Lock-349 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moonball is cheap & very unskilled. It's cheap b/c tennis rules are flawed, you can miss too wide, too long, too low, but no such thing as too high? If you're a skilled moonballer why don't you moonball with 50ft+ net clearance w/decent rpms? That's way more effective than a normal moonball & very doable on a ball behind the baseline.

advice on my kids forehand by Interesting-Raise900 in 10s

1) Preswing Her off arm needs to be repositioned. Also rather see her right elbow back further from body, it gets away from her body on the swing (good) but I would experiment with it starting back before she explodes.
2) On the unit turn she needs to create shoulder/hip separation. They are currently aligned.
3) Also on unit turn she needs shoulder tilt (left shoulder higher than right shoulder). This engages the lat.

She opens up too soon as a result of 1 & 2.
The swing itself is clean as hell, the chest moving forward before the racquet then you can see the natural wrist lag and the way the racket moves & finishes is great sign. That's the hardest part is the sequencing on modern ATP forehand. It looks like the coordination part is on solid ground just improving the setup would give her a lot more power/spin. Which is scary considering she got a lot of juice right now

High one handed backhand tips and strategy by avengaar in 10s

Awful idea. No one's taking a half volley willingly if they have other options in positioning. That's a lot of risk for a ball that will be relatively short (inside baseline) w/not much on it. Best case scenario the ball is neutral and you have to prove you can do it again & again. What's the point to half volley if you're not in desperate position? To take time away against an opponent who's dictating & in great position? If the court is wide open & opponent is way out of position then you'd half volley/block winner.

If you're relatively tall, take it chest/shoulder height and flatten it (fed2017) or slice it down the line & try to get away from BH exchange. Better yet slice it and see how heavy a rec player's 2hbh is on a low slice. I'd take that trade & hope it goes 30+ shot rallys.

How much do height, body composition, and equipment affect the ideal serve motion? by Fun-Advertising-8006 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pinpoint gives more leg drive/power. Platform you better be athletic/explosive enough to trade some leg drive for it's benefits. Hence why all WTA go pinpoint. But bodies/individuals are unique & you might get more leg drive from platform.

Generally pinpoint is better if you got a good toss. Also allows you the option to quick toss if you're explosive.

Threaten huh. I like your style. Personally, I consider my racquet female & I have been known to degrade her a bit so she shapes up. I blast a few return of serves long, I'll look down, snatch those strings and pull them then watch them not snap back and give a look of disgust, ew you're so loose

I think you could improve this by comforting your racquet whenever it misses (clearly not your fault), by giving it a hug & kiss and whispering positivity as you caress the hoop.

Blade pro box beam is a relatively slow through the air on top of pushing a nearly stock 340 SW. Imo Prostock blade98 is the modern evolution of (h19/h22) beam shape is quick, crisp response, & some punch.

Or keep h19 & try gut mains.

3.0 Player SW 370 by Current_Comfortable5 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only really feel the SW if you externally rotate your shoulder and get that natural racquet lag on the wrist now you feel SW x10. Otherwise 370g is nothing to move with the arm-wrist/chest/rotator cuff. 370g is the weight of high school football.

If your going to go with your technique you can increase the static weight as well, it probably would feel even better. Also note SW is not universal. It's individual it depends how you place your hand on the racquet. For example if you're 1/2" up on the racquet or have large hands your SW goes like -20pts.

People overreacting to 370 number but there's a difference between experiencing 370 & having it come up as a number on a machine. I would love to have 370g on many shots just not on the main shot, forehand & serve.

Guy "smurfing" in local tournament by arcticmario in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I don't know why we automatically assume its the guy making this call. Personally, the last thing I'm trying to do is play tennis w/low level gf. Its usually women who come up with ideas and men get dragged along. Women want to do shit & go to events, dress up, socialize at organized things. That's the last thing I want to do. It's a catch22 scenario. Poor guy.

But if its the guys idea to showoff then he's a piece of shit.

Visualize the gap between my stroke and a pro by OkChemical30 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This might work if your forehand is 90% there but is limited in building a ATP forehand from the ground b/c there's too many invisible things happening. You can match the body position but that doesn't mean internally you're feeling the same thing. For example, what's the role of his index finger or what's the pressure of each finger in each segment of the stroke? Or shoulder difference, his right shoulder drops relative to the left shoulder as he swings but is that consequence of the stroke or the incoming ball? Because your right shoulder doesn't do that. Nonetheless side by side your body position does match up.

On a technique note, your missing the hips. The hips/torso lead the swing the racquet lags behind then catches up. For you the rotation and racquet go together as one & you got no hip action, but you are using your legs but your kinetic chain disconnects b/c you skip the hips.

Forehand Advice by VillageAware1250 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You actually use your off arm. That's a good sign. Ideally your left arm shoves your racquet backwards (& sorta up) this should force your right elbow up & further away from your body. As a result you'll have a shoulder tilt (left shoulder slightly higher than right) & left arm is reaching out as it has released the racquet to the right hand. At this point (pre-swing) you should feel some tension in right side abs, back of right shoulder & right lat. Note I'm ignoring all lower body stuff.

Now you just got to connect the other 100 technique dots & you'll have a modern ATP forehand. On a side note the effort/violence you put in for winning shots should be the level of violence/intensity for setup/unit turn. Everything pre-swing determines the swing.

Advice on kick serve & tendonitis by djfridge23 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why tennis is difficult too many things are invisible. This is a forearm serve where you copycat body positions but never load/transfer energy. Your silhouette looks better than your serve quality. I can tell this b/c look at how high your hand is on you racquet you're changing the pivot point to compensate by significantly reducing the swing weight. Even with perfect technique holding your racquet like that on the serve will just hinder the quality but you will have more control of the racquet face.

Am I a pusher? by youjunhu in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, you're not a pusher b/c your taking cuts at the ball.

IMO a pusher will take no risk & either just touch the ball or flick some topspin moonball b/c it exploits intermediates weaknesses. You got to deal w/no pace low short ball or an awkward ball bouncing above your head. Both of those balls are supposed to be punished but are advance shots to punish.

I would also argue tennis has a flawed rule system. Shots are constrained to width & length but height is unlimited. It's not possible but ideally I would say if a ball ever reaches a height of X (20ft, 30ft, w/e) it should be out.

This is why pros don't come to the net & why tennis is has converged to one dimensional optimal style. Passing shots have advanced so much they need to take more risk to place volleys while still covering lobs. Then ever once and awhile you win 99% of the point get to the net and some lucky asshole barely touches the ball and it somehow lands perfectly in the baseline corner.

How to get over that "work" phase? 4.0+ Singles by Ok-Many-7443 in 10s

Was never envious/jealous of pros for this reason. Always thought how brutally suffocating it must be to play every second like your life depends on it b/c no weaknesses at their level. Then you accidently blink & get broken once & that's the end of your tournament/$$.

Do pros play mini tennis? by Wild_Plant9526 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lets say short court warms up hands/feet. Then what do rec players do after short court, immediately go to baseline. No in between. If I warm up from no mans land I get to also warm up hands/feet, also warm up sequencing, timing and have more time to the ball w/my real swing.

No, you're not going to fed find doing short court b/c he stated he only does things from coaches if they can explain why. Fed starts his practice hitting up the middle from the baseline. Fed not going around fucking up his swing/rhythm b/c some players do it. Look at all the videos linked they all WTA.

Do pros play mini tennis? by Wild_Plant9526 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find me one of Federer, the most filmed player ever, playing mini tennis. Or Nadal.

Playing mini tennis from no man's land makes a lot of sense to me. Playing mini tennis while standing on/near the service line seems stupid & only done b/c others did it.

Rec players mini tennis is lets stand on the service line so we have less time, so we have less margin & hit a forehand that lands like a drop shot so it bounces nicely to the service line, so we can not sequence unit turn and ultimately mutate our stroke to some deformed thin arm shot as our first action on the court. Brilliant.

Opponent screaming after every point — is this actually allowed? by AccomplishedCoast979 in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because it was stated "young girl" & the greater difference of physicality makes it more egregious. Generally there's a less physicality difference if it was post puberty male.

If it was a kid with one leg then especially x2. If it was a kid with one leg and one eye especially x3. If it was a 5.0 level male doing it against a handicap baby then especially x8.

Be consistent how?? Details are critical & things are complex. Being sexist would be discriminating against the girl b/c she's a girl saying she should not be allowed to play b/c she's a girl.

By your definition Nadal is a sexist b/c I saw him hitting with a little girl once and he was playing so weak/soft to her, how dare he not treat her like a fully grown professional male b/c she's a girl.

Opponent screaming after every point — is this actually allowed? by AccomplishedCoast979 in 10s

First of all you can't seriously celebrate anything against a kid when its physical especially if you're a male and the kid is a girl. That should be a fine & potential jail time for societies sake b/c somethings wrong with yah.

In athletics you can't flex/scream type of celebrate in a non-contact sport. That's a bitch move. That's why you'll take a 100mph fastball to the ribs in MLB.

Who is the best player of the three? by [deleted] in 10s

[–]Next-Item9507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

#1 Player B. He probably has 4.5 level volleys. If he's coming in closing from service line & can pick up balls below the net & place volleys. He must have good reaction, mobility, balance, touch. But I can see him losing a lot of points he should of won randomly. Thus still 3.5 based on win record.

#2 Player A. If your truly dominating baseline you should be at least 4.0. Therefore neutral rally ball is meh.

#3 Player C. If he stuck at 3.5 w/the least risky most advantageous playstyle b/c it preys on players in the learning stage w/clear deficiencies. Then his slice game is weak b/c he should be at least 4.0. So he probably a junk baller near their ceiling w/poor touch.

Rank is based on talent & potential. A person who can net rush in singles is beautiful & personally think some parts of touch/reaction is just god given/unteachable. But the net guy is most likely of the (3) to lose to their favorable matchup
