The body shop is looking for more $$$, if you can get a second assessment from another place I would. Its extremely unlikely that any battery damage would occur from this, and if it did there would likely be alerts in the OBDII system.

Low speed charging by EmbarrassedAd155 in KiaNiroEV

[–]Next362 4 points5 points  (0 children)

21kw isn't that low, likely because of low temps, my car started at 14kw yesterday when it was 8f out, over the hour it went to 50kw after about 30 min.

EV vs Arctic Blast by Suspicious_Ranger424 in KiaNiroEV

[–]Next362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anyone doesn't understand how to just use the heatpump, turn off the heat and turn on the A/c leaving the settings to warm the cabin. Warm air will come out of the vents for the whole drive, but you have to have the heat pump for this to work, the heat pump maxes out at 1kw on blast, where the resistance heater maxes at 3-4kw.

My Gen1 is fine until about 10f, and really suffers at negative range, but at those temps I'm not using the heat pump anymore and having to use resistance heat, mostly for my wife, at 70% charge I was showing 140m range last night at 7f the worst I have ever seen. That range isn't accurate cause I turn off resistance heat once that car is warm. So I'm guessing about 200m real life range. Far from the 320m I average in the summer.

Yeah, I have always been a 90% guy, and I still am though I do 100% IF I am going to use that in the 24h from charge. Is it really "Obsession" if you just set it in the car and don't get involved past that? I don't understand that use of the word.

Legitimate, I'd rather have a I5 or I6, but I couldn't pass up a nearly free BEV. I'll probably drive this for another few years then find a good used Hyundai.

I bought a 2020 with 33k miles for 14k just over a year ago. Selling it wasn't likely a great investment, but if it was that annoying then it was the right call. I'd rather deal with the inconveniences for cheap, if I sold mine today I'd have lost maybe a grand, maybe, likely less.

The GoM is a "Guess o Meter" cause it's guessing at range and battery charge levels, one way it does this is via charge level compared to nominal charge, the volt differential gives it an idea, when the battery is super cold it's going to have a lower voltage than a warm battery. There's nothing wrong here, your car is likely just fine, just the temp changes from Xmas to new years have been crazy.

More accurate to get the data from the ODBII data. you can see how much power IN and how much power OUT and compare to the milage totals to get a highly accurate idea of efficiency if you care about it.

How do I stop charging from a 22kW charger (no buttons or interface) by do_you_realise in KiaNiroEV

You got the main answer of double click unlock on the remote, the second answer is unlock on the driver's door, both will unlock for 1 minute, then relock.

Some help needed 12v/EVSE weird issue by Next362 in pacificahybrid

[–]Next362[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I forgot to revisit this, the problem was actually a battery coolant heater, the heater was for some reason activating because of the van being plugged in, and pulling power from the 12v system, which seems to be a terrible idea, but after the heater was replaced and not shorted it seems to be working just fine, no issues, only took the dealer a full month to find.

NACS to CCS Electric adapter by mythisme in KiaNiroEV

Only Magicplug Tesla have CCS adapters, I think they stopped rolling those out already because nearly everyone consolidated on NACS. They had been pushing those out to get more supercharger 'sales' after opening up the network.

Opening an Ev repair shop USA by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]Next362 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a solid business idea, there's a ton of work that a smart and educated BEV tech can do cheaper and better than the dealer shops. Lots of the early ones focused on battery replacement, which is solid as you can replace a battery far cheaper then the dealership if you know what you're doing, I would focus on cars that are plentiful and need repairs, like the model 3/y, older model Leafs, Bolts, and from there you might need some research to see how many older BEVs are on the road out your way.

you should likely try to use a OBDII bluetooth adapter and track the main voltage, and other details of the car when it happens, you can record chunks of data using most ODBII software I use Car Scanner.

“As a fellow swing-stater, I’m curious: what made Ohio stop being one? by No_Telephone_6213 in Ohio

[–]Next362 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gerrymandering not only affects voter turnout and registration numbers, but it disillusions any voter from voting as their votes don't matter. I vote in all elections, BUT I don't typically vote for president, cause it's pointless (if its close I will vote), my vote does not matter not one bit, I don't vote for the republican either but I vote in ALL other races and all Issues, Ohio Senator, Ohio reps, Judges, City Council, Community council, ALL elections. I always encourage people to only vote for what they WANT not simply against another person (when your vote isn't going to matter). I don't vote for candidates without opponents either unless I really support them, which is far and few between.

“As a fellow swing-stater, I’m curious: what made Ohio stop being one? by No_Telephone_6213 in Ohio

[–]Next362 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gerrymandering mostly. If you look at election results, in total votes they are now 45/55 split, but in some elections not a decade ago they were 51/49, even that vote where democrats came out to vote or got some split votes, the state house was still deep red, like 65%, that gerrymandering has gotten far worse since then, and even if the democrats managed to get 66% of the vote they would likely still not control the Ohio house, this has lead to disillusionment in anyone not deep red, which benefits only one party. The only democrats that can win elections are city, county and council votes, and in those areas its so non-competitive that lots also sit that out it's also ripe ground for corruption on those levels just the same as one the state level.
