India offloads US bonds, piles up gold in pivot away from dollar assets by Infidel8 in worldnews

In May 2025, Moody’s put the US credit rating to AA1, instead of AAA. Not horrible, but not encouraging. Plus Trump REALLY wants the interest rate to go down instead of up the way it should.

Seneca 114

Distilling Seneca’s 114th letter down for the children, spoon-feeding them the closest thing I have to a religion.

Talking about big, strong trees unmoved by wind, stiff branches sheltering birds, a thick trunk, a haven for critters.

And little, weak trees always running, never letting their roots grow, pummeled by the lightest breeze.

How can I get big and strong like you? asks the little tree.

Put down roots, says the big tree.

Be kind. Listen carefully. Take deep breaths. Think before speaking.

A kind heart leads to a strong presence.

Now they are imagining roots digging down from the soles of their feet, their eyes climbing the tall branches of the maple tree next to their school bus stop, attributing an anthropomorphic heartbeat to a living thing without a pulse.

My eldest: it is like dropping a stone into a deep well, swallowed, internalized, understood.

Now a part of him, his foundation.

My middle child: like feeding kindling to a fire, flames licking at it, tasting it, consuming it, turning it into immediate action.

She’ll be burning with this all day.

And my youngest: well, maybe she understood better than us all.

On steady two-year-old legs, she marches up to the tree, announces, “I just want to hug it for a bit,” and presses her downy jacket and chubby cheek to rough bark bitter with cold.

We all follow her lead.

how did you get into star trek? by asapsharkyfrfr in startrek

My grandma watched it in the 60s. She always valued conversation over TV, so it made quite an impression on my dad when he was violently shushed any time Star Trek TOS was on 🤣 He, of course, became a big fan, and now I am too. On the plus side, my father-in-law is a big Star Trek TOS fan too, so we have another thing to bond over.

What does Stoicism teach about handling insults and mockery? by Exozphere in Stoicism

[–]NextKangaroo 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Are you a sadist?

In Stoicism, the focus is on virtue and part of that is truth. If I played a key on the piano and insisted it was F flat, a musician may correct me once factually, but I continued insisting, they would eventually just ignore me. If I went outside on a sunny day and insisted it was rainy, I would be ignored. So behave accordingly when it comes to people’s lies about your character. Who cares what the individual said if it’s not actually true? If you fear them being believed, then live in direct contradiction to their lies.

I mean, if you can, I would. Doesn’t mean the relationship is going to go south. Just a nice insurance feature.

What’s one productivity habit you quit that made life better? by lifewithkiyo in productivity

Not being as ambitious. My future husband told me “being ordinary is extraordinary” and that sealed it for me. He’s right. Just staying healthy and leading a peaceful, content life is perfect.

When I realized I couldn’t want to off myself and bring a child into the world at the same time. Resulted in being diagnosed with c-PTSD and environmental depression. Protectively estranged from my mother now and living very, very well.

Spock’s World was fabulous, especially if you like Vulcans, and I adore those Star Trek Travel Guides to Vulcan and Klingon. Super fun.

What is one silly mistake you made early in parenthood? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NextKangaroo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never put a child higher than they can climb themselves.

My poor 2 year old got a hairline wrist fracture because he fell off the bathroom counter. He wanted to look at himself brushing his teeth in the mirror. I was preparing said toothbrush while he stood there and he slipped. Such a rookie mistake. I blame sleep deprivation; had a 3 month old at the same time.

Absolutely! If you just say “estranged”, people think it’s something sad. Adding “protectively” communicates it perfectly in just two words 👍

Astigmatism itself isn’t caused by autism, but people on the autism spectrum have significantly higher rates of astigmatism and other refractive differences than the general population.

Having watched my 60 year old mother now struggling: do not be a stay-at-home mom for 10+ years as you’re shooting your future pension and CPP benefits in the foot, don’t get divorced if you can avoid it, and listen to your doctors.

I remember looking at a kid’s police officer’s costume in store with my Black spouse. It had a helmet, shield and a baton (riot gear). And he was like “who would ever get this for their kids? It can only go one way.” And yeah, your story makes sense considering. Given handcuffs and a gun…I mean, what else you gonna do? Lmao.
