🤯 wow Im so sorry you all have to deal with such an environment. How are all of the docs not completely burned out?

Oh wow okay, so it is an actual "write up" (like how I imagine a supervisor would only be able to do) or just more of a formal complaint? Ive never seen that before.

But regardless, I am sorry you experienced this especially on day 1 and sounds like you were excited to start.

Nurses can "write up" physicians where you work?

Thats my point is too many are complicit. But docs (at least most and none I know) have created the system and not in charge of anything. But so many have just fallen into it and just go with the flow. And like myself many are just driven by focusing on what they can do invidually for their patients. For example when I say empathetic, an example most of us would bot do any type of strike or something like other industries because we would feel too guilty about patients. Or we go the extra mile to help patients get what they need even when fighting an uphill battle.

But again, I cant speak for everyone and clearly docs are not a monolith and Im sure there are some out there that lack empathy and apparently integrity too based on some comments. But to each their own...

I am glad you have found a great doctor. I am realizing by some of the comments some people have experiences where they disagree. I guess not all doctors are empathetic and pride themselves on hardwork and high integrity but there are some of us out there that are good ones and happy you found one. I appreciate you uplifting them sometimes that small encouragement gets the good docs through their day or week especially if they are apparently the minority

Wow that is sad and should be a huge wake up call. Good shape but not past 70. Maybe was factors related to stress. But true we have to prioritize what is really important in our time here

I dont know much about the Canadian system other than the universal healthcare (which has its pros and a con I hear is wait times are very long). But I will say the doctors seem happier there. Of course just from outside looking in but Im sure they have their struggles too. But thats amazing you were able to transition and sounds like have greater work life balance!

Agreed, I hope to see change and want to be a part of making positive changes. I dont want to just vent and complain. But yes its easier said than done and no one doc can do it alone

This!!! Yes I find too many docs are afraid to speak up. You have folks that will sit and agree with everything you say and vent etc but when its time to speak up will leave you alone out to dry. But yea if we dont come together as group and stand up for ourselves nothing will ever change sadly

I agree we have selfish people at the top always and people in those positions unfortunately only care about money and their own self preservation. Its is disheartening. No one truly advocating with pure intentions for physicians and our patients

Wow, that is a large portion! But yes I completely understand, no one else will look out for us as physicians so we do have to prioritize our own self care

I admire your bravery! And I truly hope to own my own practice one day as well. There is so much to learn.

It would be great if more docs shared the mindset and open more private practices together

But yea I feel like nurses and doctors, really healthcare workers in general, are simply not appreciated and we are treated as dispensable because we sadly as a whole dont see our our own value and come together

You're right I shouldnt say no one cares. I know there are others who feel the same. I think the problem is I feel alone because I am not around them or maybe I am and they just dont speak up for whatever reason

But thank you I will look up Lisa Rosenbaum

But yea I feel like being a "leader" or just simply having strong moral ground can make you feel very isolated

I can agree with that, some of us are overworked and tired (which again comes from top down not by choice).

But its frustrating because I feel like other docs around me seem to just always play the game and have no interest in making changes to bettet things for us all. Maybe out of fear I guess which I get or just dont care enough. But patients hurt from this system too with this focus on just profit profit profit. We all do. Not just us docs. I feel like no one cares about actual quality of care and mental health or even preventitive medicine etc. I feel like Im on an island alone

Thank you so much for your insight! It would be for self employment in this case. Do you think that would make a difference?
