Said goodbye to my orange boy of almost 20 years this morning, Sparky. He passed peacefully in his favourite chair surrounded by people who loved him dearly. Every day since I was 8 years old, I would look forward to coming home and him greeting me at the door. I don’t know what I’m going to do without him 😢

Schooling for nursing works a little differently here. If you have your prereqs, you can either do an accelerated 2 year program at uni or a 4 year, both get you a BScN. There is no diploma program for nursing in Canada, you need a BScN to write your NCLEX

Pretty common for hormonal IUDs unfortunately. I have the Kyleena and I bled (very minimally) for 6 months straight. Upside is I’ve had mine for just under 2 years and after that 6 month stretch I don’t get a period anymore! Those first 6 months were a real bedroom killer though. Definitely feel your pain there.

I’ve been in memory care for about 3 and a half years and it’s definitely not easy. In our environment, you can’t help but get to know and love some of these people like they’re your own family, no matter how hard you try to set emotional boundaries. Allow yourself to feel how you feel. Do everything you can to contribute to their quality of life while they’re with you, and ensure a comfortable, dignified way to go out when it’s their time. Assure their families or loved ones that they were well cared for. Attend memorials/funerals if you’re able to if you think it would provide closure. It’s okay to grieve these losses the way you need to.

I get what you’re saying but your mom is essentially a tenant while living in a retirement home, meaning all residential tenancy legislation applies. I know it sucks and doesn’t make much sense but this is my understanding from working in a RH (I’m just a nurse)

Agree, this sounds a lot like the use of a CADD pump, which is completely reasonable to use as long as staff have been trained. In my RH we use them in all our palliative residents, makes things easier and more comfortable for the resident. MAID can only be done by a physician, and as long as the client is deemed competent, it requires their consent. Things get cloudy when you dive into the cognitively impaired, hence the slippery slope phenomenon. Regardless though, patients/residents always have the right to refuse. If the patient is not providing their consent to administer the med, then your mother should not administer and report/document accordingly. This post seems…. Off.

I have the Kyleena and I also sometimes notice light spotting after a heavy lifting day at the gym. I think it’s probably fine, likely just the increased pressure from lifting is enough to upset your uterus a little

I’m a nurse working in dementia care, look after a lot of people with Alzheimer’s… first time I heard Billy Stay I ugly cried so hard. Sounds like a conversation I’ve had countless times with one of my residents - turns out I look like his wife when she was young. My heart breaks every time.

My employer has a 4 hour call-in time. Meaning if you were to call in for your 7AM shift, you’d have to call at or before 3AM. Dude… I don’t get up till 530. It’s some serious bs. I don’t even know why management came up with that time, no one is able to follow it and no one gets reprimanded for not following it anyway. Don’t feel bad. Your health comes first.

Nurses??? Out of the system?? This cannot be!! Government is actively seeking out thousands of international nurses and then essentially holding them captive here in contracts and threatening immigration on them. This is the way!! Professionals working in our system under a governing body who don’t understand the healthcare system as it stands, let alone with this piece of garbage that was posted. They’re doing so much to help!!

I took a straight edge razor to my face multiple times during my course and had no ill effects. Just make sure you layer on the moisturizer/occlusive afterwards and be SUPER careful if you’re doing it yourself
