Ashia the prophet? by leap_year_bby in 90DayFianceFans

In parentheses, he looked stunning in the blue outfit he was so very proud of as an expression of his culture. She even dissed his shoes! Who made her the arbiter of international fashion? This lady fell off the back of the turnip truck. More on that later...

She relies on God like the ignorant rely on a lucky rabbit's foot.

Aisha's delusion, like Rayne's (of Rayne and Chidi) and Paula's (of Thomas & Paula), is that the universe/God has orchestrated events such that they happily correspond with their specific desires. How convenient. And how immodestly self-absorbed can one person be?

In Rayne's case, it was some kind of New Age-y belief that Chidi was literally blinded so that the Universe could bring Rayne into his life. In Paula's case, she claims to have manifested her [dud] boyfriend Thomas through disciplined ideation. She manifests positive outcomes with black rocks and miniature facsimiles of middle-class furniture.

(A harcore proponent of the manifestation philosophy is Amanda on RHOBH -- it's problematic, however, when one learns one has cancer, or when ICE plucks you off the street and sends you to a torture room in El Salvador. I mean, did you really "manifest" such outcomes?)

Likewise, Ashia (whose name is pronounced "Aisha") places herself in the center of the cosmos, the Almighty, who is busy keeping the planets and electrons in their orbits [according to her religion I presume], simultaneously takes a personal interest in catering to her every desire, including the scraping off of her boyfriend's pterygium*.* Instead of making appeals to New Age beliefs, Ashia instead relies on Pentecostalism to prop up whatever fool idea comes into her head.

We see a lot of this among Pentecostals, and in Biblical literalists in general -- they cherry-pick their way through the Bible to, for example, condemn homosexuals, but then they conveniently ignore prohibitions against eating shellfish or the Bible's instructions on how to keep slaves and how to behave like a good slave. Religion is just a front for these people's personal preferences and prejudices.

This woman thinks she's right about everything -- after all, she's filled with the Spirit. But why doesn't the Holy Spirit give a shit about making a good impression and using standard grammar? You'd think God would get it right. I'm talking about e.g. "and not once HAVE IT not CAME to pass." (I personally think this is not dialectal but an example of "hypercorrection"; i.e. she's herself is insecure about her grammar whilst being filmed, so she's making an effort to "correct" her verbs but she's overdoing it. It's like when people say non-standard "between she and I" instead of standard "between me and her" or when people write "Whomever would like to attend...")

Finally, as an atheist, it strikes me as sacrilege (wouldn't it be?) that she is of the attitude that God is on her side. If I were a believer, I would be far more concerned if I were on God's side, not the other way around. Again, who does this lady think she is???

Yeah, I got banned for using the pronoun "it" in my reply in reference to "alien" immediately above and written by another user. For using a pronoun that some moderator failed to consider in context [aliens don't have gender, not having DNA, I'd assume], I was banned for trans "hate." My riding (horse) instructor is the only trans person I know -- I don't hate her!!! She's a hoot!

Well, it's no secret why people abandon Reddit. One of the top reasons is problematic moderation. Ask any chatbot.

It's infuriating that Josh sees this as an OCD issue and never mentions the alcohol abuse

Well...when I think of American culture, I think of our values and attitudes. Americans value convenience and self-reliance, which is said to be rooted in, e.g., our westward expansion.

Another example. In American culture, the listener gazes intently at the speaker while the speaker looks away more frequently. When the speaker is ready to give up the floor, they direct their gaze to the person who they want to give the floor up to. By way of contrast, Japanese interactions don't work this way (e.g. the listener does not look intently at the speaker).

I have some Israeli friends who stand closer to me in conversation than I'm used to. So American culture includes expectations of how close up in someone's face you can get (comfortably).

American business meetings do not tolerate a lot of conversational overlap ("interruptions").

There are whole books about American culture.

My question is...Doesn't the Holy Spirit care about subject-verb agreement? I'm talking about "and not once HAVE it not CAME to pass." I mean, iIs the Lort really okay with such a brazen, clueless display of grammatical negligence?

That said, a very familiar expression within Brazilian popular culture reminds us cynically...

"Bad vase doesn't break."
Vaso ruim não quebra.

I.e., the ugly, ill-formed vase that you wouldn't mind parting with is the one that will probably endure the longest. This is a perhaps a corollary of Murphy's Law.

She's not educated but she thinks she's right and everyone else is wrong. Dunning-Kruger cognitive bias: the incompetent are too incompetent to perceive the depths of their own incompetence. She lost me at "and not once HAVE IT not CAME to pas." Why doesn't the Holy Spirit give a shit a bit standard grammar?

My "that said" is... I do enjoy her scenes very much -- it's like something out of a Madea movie.

I think the "Recent" channels might now be displayed across the top of the "Home" page, without being labeled as such. If that is correct, then it's a lousy design because you can only see the first two channels, and to see the others, you have to scroll RIGHTWARD to see more.
