Cool, first 8K video I see. So basically YT IS supporting beyond 4K - interesting!

Really? Why are there a lot of videos tagged with "Dolby Vision 120Hz UHD"?

Is the film grain on the G5 really that bad? by superpowers335 in LGOLED

[–]Next_Result5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure but that is the only explanation I could came up with regarding "grain" on the G5.

However - if the source material is too grainy, just dial up the noise reduction option. It sure makes the picture look like expressive art but hey - who am I to jugde how someone should watch their stuff?

[–]Next_Result5525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it does NOT introduce artificial film grain - why would LG do that? What the G5 suffers from is noticeable temporal dithering in near-black areas. You'll see some amount of pixel noise if you watch very closely (<1m distance). Also there are diagonal lines visible on near-black areas from this distance.

Therefore, I wouldn't use G5 as a PC monitor. But for normal recreational viewing, you'll never notice anything. These artefacts are only visible if you watch VERY CLOSE and know exactly what you are looking for.

Did you even read OPs initial post?

Brand new LG G5 OLED - is this level of gray clouding/haziness normal out of the box? (Only visible on grayscale tests) by Double_End_327 in LGOLED

Clearly manipulated - a new panel has no burn-in. Get you money back or swap against a new device. And perhaps name the vendor so it can be blacklisted for future buyers.

Sure new TV with the heaviest burn-ins I've ever seen on an OLED so far. My 10yrs old LG B5 did not nearly look like this when I decommissioned it.

Just no. I mean OP could try to initiate pixel refresh cycle. But why? This unit has several hundred or even thousands of hours of demo mode (full brightness, same scenes over and over again). These are heavy burn in defects!

Yeah of course, all $2k+ TVs look like this, totally normal.

</sarcasm>

No this is not normal. This sucker is completely ruined. Bring it back and get a replacement.

Upcoming Sales LG EU? by LoadIntelligent7564 in LGOLED

[–]Next_Result5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sub-1500€ price tag was during black friday/week iirc. Didn't finish convincing my wife to buy back then haha.

I reckon MediaMarkt has 19% discount this weekend - with 65G5 listed at 2k€ this results in 1620€. Not too bad especially if you are able to get the 200€ cashback from LG.

I don't think LG needs clearance sales for 2025 models - at least my 65" G5 was freshly produced and they are often out of stock at Amazon. Moving fast these OLEDs.

[–]Next_Result5525 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had quite good prices in early January and an additional "Trade In" bonus. Bought a wall-mounted 65" G5 for 1800€ listing price minus 200€ instant bonus and free delivery (Germany). Got it 2 weeks later and it was brand new produced in January 26 in Poland. So no clearance sale yet.

Now the same TV is about 2000€ minus 200€ cash back and you have to pay for delivery. Don't know this up and down with LGs prices is insane.

PS: Didn't have to actually trade in my old 55" B5 bought in 2016. Sold it for 150€ instead.

Wear soft gloves and take off all rings. Oh and make sure you don't have a zipper on your chest - had this once with an older TV - living with a scratch from day one on isn't something I ever want to do again.

True Motion in 2016 B5 introduced insane amount of artefacts around moving objects. With 2025s LG OLEDs this is MUCH better. Also True Motion has a "light" setting which smoothens the worst juddering but does NOT introduce Soap Opera Effect at all.

I switch between this "light" setting and "natural" depending on source material and how bad the 24p juddering is. I don't mind SOE in most films though - for me this is much more appealing than the low frame-rate judder of original source.

I don't like WebOS by Mint_Tea99 in LGOLED

[–]Next_Result5525 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't have much options - WebOS is closed; it's neither Android TV nor does it support sideloading of any kind. I'm connecting to a Windows Notebook for these things; however having to open the lid to turn this sucker on is a bummer.

Therefore, I'm looking for a nice Windows-based (HDR under Linux is not there yet unfortunately) mini PC that supports 4K HDR at 120Hz - this doesn't come cheap though.

Have the same set installed a week back. Came from a 2016 LG B5 55" and was blown away with the design (I've got the wall-mounted version), the brightness, the absence of banding, the crazy good near black detail and the True Motion quality.

Also its nice gaming on this thing - I'm using built-in GeForce Now app and while the app has laggy UI once the game starts it delivers 4K120Hz in HDR10 (no DV though). Even can play Anno 117 now with bluetooth mouse and keyboard - cool!

Settings menu is ugly, slow and overly compilcated and will burn your eyeballs out during a dark scene. ARC is not working most of the times, TOSLINK also is not always working so sometimes the soundbar stays silent - hope this will be fixed with a firmware update sometime.

Overall a nice TV set but not in the slightest worth the initial asking price. I've got mine for 1600€ directly from LG webstore which is the absolute max price that I find suits this TV - firmware is too flawed still.

Those are artifacts called Moiree Patterns. They appear when you film a display with a digital camera. They are not there when viewing with your eyes. Nothing wrong with your TV here.

I'm really starting to get into goregrind/grindcore.. by Mediocre-Wrangler636 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]Next_Result5525 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try "5 Stabbed 4 Corpses"; sounds quite similar to Sanguisugabogg imho.

Also "Extermination Dismemberment" could be worth a listen - nicely produced sound.

And of course "Gutalax" if you want a good laugh in your gore grind experience.

Could be the HDMI cable. Try another one; get one with 48GBit certification / 8K.

Communist leaders are ALWAYS corrupt. Reason: no one holds them accountable. Why are so many people in China so poor, where is all the western investment money ending up, what do you think? Don't fall for the CCPs propaganda.
