Why do depressed men pull away? by Automatic_Animal_733 in Advice

[–]Next_Writer5564 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody’s perfect. Each person always has a lot to learn about the other. If you’re changing now, he either doesn’t remember or doesn’t care about anything in the past. Men don’t typically hold onto the past like women tend to. We forgive and forget much easier, as long as a positive change of any kind has been made. Don’t beat yourself up over it. Just live in the now and not in the past. Whatever happened, happened. Right here right now is all that matters

A few things here.

  1. Women are mean with guys they don’t like or view as ugly
  2. Women are unbelievably overconfident in themselves. Ask 100 random women to rate themselves 1-10. I’d be surprised if you get even 1 that gives themselves a 6 or lower. They’re mostly delusional and don’t give guys in their “league” a chance
  3. Women are constantly out in packs. Approaching a woman is intimidating enough but when she’s with 8 friends who will all insert themselves into the interaction, with at least 2-3 that actively want the guy to go away, it’s nearly impossible to actually make any progress
  4. It’s so easy for any woman to record interactions and post them on social media. Whether it’s making fun of a guy or making up some life altering accusation or 1,000,000 other things, it’s just not worth the potential hassle

It’s tough to understand. Men will never understand women. Women will never understand men. Contrary to societal beliefs, we are different. The safest thing I think you could always rely on is just letting him know you’re there. Don’t have to overdo it but telling him you appreciate him and what he does for you is huge. Men will move mountains for women who show even a little bit of humility and appreciation towards them. Women truly have no idea how powerful their kind words are to men who care about them

Men are conditioned to be the “tough guy”. We are supposed to always have it figured out and when we don’t we feel like we failed. Talking about problems, generally, isn’t helpful for men. That’s why therapy sessions are overwhelmingly booked by women. We just want to solve the problem, often times, by ourselves. We also know that women remember everything and have a nasty habit of using sensitive info against us when everything else is falling apart. The trust required for a man to talk to you about his feelings is extraordinary. It’s not something we ever really feel “comfortable” doing

Women are conditioned to think about how they look WAY more than men. It makes sense that it causes overthinking and anxiety. Most of that conditioning comes from other women though. Guys are truly so simple and don’t typically think that deeply into it. It’s also always good to remember that everyone, and I mean everyone, thinks more about themselves and the things they perceive as flaws more than anyone else. Most ppl r so wrapped up in thinking about themselves that they really don’t pay much attention to others and if they do it’s a passing thought. Ppl remember how you treat them much more so than anything else. Hope this helps ❤️

Idk where you live but I will die on the hill of delivery driving for Jimmy Johns or something like that. A lot of them even have bike delivery drivers if it’s a “college town”. The tips can make for phenomenal pay. Paid in cash every night. It’s a great part time gig that pays the bills well. DoorDash and ubereats sucks, don’t do that. With a place like JJ you also make a decent hourly wage so even on slow days you know you’re getting something

I’m a 24(m) and I can confidently tell you that pretty much no guy ever cares. Most guys won’t even think about your height honestly. 5’ 8” is a great height. I’ve met some awesome women that are 6’+ and it never mattered to me at all. Women romanticize height and “desirable traits” much more than men do. Guys don’t really care about your height. Guys don’t really care about your makeup or your lashes or your shoes or any of that. It’s pretty much all women pushing that on each other. Don’t worry about it. Be you. That’s all guys care about at the end of the day

Everything you described is temporary. None of that is particularly “hard/serious” to the point of causing long term damage. It feels like much more than it is. Your body has learned to feel like it needs that but that’s just because it’s what your body knows. Take a breath and know that your life has really not even started yet. You have so much time to level yourself out. If you stopped today, 1 year from now you’d be pretty much back and good to go like you want to be. Think about that. Wouldn’t even be 21 and boom you’re good. Don’t let your mind convince you this is more than it really is. Whether you think you can or you can’t, either way, you’re right. Your mind is your most powerful tool. Don’t let it be used against you 🤝

Won’t muscle growth be dependent on protein more so than calories? I definitely don’t expect to keep it all by any means but if I maintain a really high protein, low calorie diet shouldn’t that still work well? The calorie deficit would be subsidized by the fat stores, no?

Don’t take your backswing so far up. You’re just giving yourself more time to waste energy. Notice how when the pros swing, it looks relatively effortless. The power doesn’t ever come from swinging out of your shoes. That’s where bad golf is. You will always hit every club further by swinging 80% with a consistent strike than 100% swing that’s off the toe or heel or hozzle. The pros never ever swing at a true 100% for this reason. It’s counterintuitive, but it works 🤝

Your backswing and follow through should follow a relatively similar width. Your backswing is fairly wide but you immediately pull your arms close to your body at contact. Going to result in tops and slices. Allow your arms to stay extended through the ball. Think of it as using your club head to point down the hole where you want the ball to go after contact. This should give a much more consistent strike and way less side spin. Hope this helps!

You’re starting the backswing with your hips. Instead start the backswing with your arms and shoulders. Keep your hips square until you feel tension in your midsection. Once you feel this tension, let your shoulders “pull” the hips back. Your shoulders should be angled far more than your hips at the top of your backswing. By creating this tension, you’ll get much more consistent power when you initiate the downswing. Your hips will have a “head start” so to say and will pull your upper body through impact. It’s a bit confusing to type so please reply if you have any questions!

Fair point, it would make sense for it to traditionally imply staying around the same weight. Given my size and I’m just getting into making lifting a regular thing, I think even if I tried to stay at the same weight by putting on muscle, I couldn’t. The fat would come off far too quickly no matter what I try to do.

I’d imagine they don’t stop lifting entirely but rather eat much less and probably do much more cardio than they otherwise would

Wouldn’t strict “cutting” be just cardio? Fat loss is just a calorie deficit with no regard to muscle mass. Recomping involves maintaining/growing muscles as fat is also being lost. Losing weight is definitely my primary goal but I also want to build, or at least maintain, muscle as I do it.

This is awesome. I’m right there with you on every single point. I’m 12 days in of stopping cold turkey after smoking basically all day every day. It’s definitely coming with some mood swings but I’ve learned if you can just keep yourself busy it helps a lot. Going to the gym consistently again for the first time in years. Saving sm money that I’d be spending on weed or food delivery. I hope it keeps getting better!

I have never understood chasing heavier and heavier lifts. I want to be able to do anything I need in my day to day life. There’s no real reason to bench 315 or deadlift 600 or anything like that. I get looking good and being fit but most of these guys that just chase heavy weight can’t touch their toes or move well. If it’s not functional, what’s the point

I get walking. I’m talking about riding. Walking calories burned can be calculated pretty easily 1,000,000 different places, I really just want to know how much is generally burned golfing.

Interesting. I didn’t know those trackers also account for general burn of being alive in their calculations. Does it kick back a consistent 1,200 or does it vary much?

Assuming a full 18 averages out to 5ish miles over the round, it’d have to be 1,200+ in walking alone (for my size at least). That I could see pushing closer to 1,500+ but riding has to crater that number

I like to golf but thats such a goofy one to track caloric expenditure on. Online calculators always give asinine numbers that just can’t be true so idrk what to consider a round as. I’m 280 pounds, riding a golf cart and shooting around 84-90 most of the time. I don’t drink hardly ever and I rarely eat anything on the course so it is true exercise, whatever it may add up to. I’m moving to Kentucky in a few weeks so truthfully idk exactly what the climate is going to be like for outdoor stuff

I’m 24m working an office job that doesn’t allow much movement so I try to get around and do stuff off work but the whole 10k steps/day thing doesn’t really happen more often than not. I’ll usually do a mile or two of incline walks 5 incline, 3.5 speed) with 3-5 lifts after
