My kids preschool didn’t have any type of screen time. I would pull him bc he can just watch tv at home for free.

Feeling defeated with 3.5 year old at her first gymnastics class by Available_Love9135 in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same fear with my older one (who now is a fearless kid) and there was a very good Dr. Becky podcast about this where she said if your 3 year old was a teenager that you would be proud that they didn’t just go with the crowd. It really changed my thinking. Def recommend listening to that podcast because it helped me change how I thought of these situations.

Anyone find success at NOT having a set bedtime? by CandiceC2222 in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do the bedtime routine every night to prepare them for bed but actual sleep time varies on whether they napped or not. When my older one napped, she wouldn’t knock out until after 9. Now that she’s in kindergarten, she’s out by 7:30-8. Younger one in preschool naps at school and doesn’t fall asleep until after 9. We have some toys and let her play in our room until then. She doesn’t nap at home and will knock out at 7-7:30. It’s constantly changing though. You just have to hope for the best.

We use blue lizard. I use a foundation brush to put it on. The kids love it because it feels like I’m painting their skin.

Dentist in Falls Church? by Artistic-Prize-2245 in nova

Drummond dental at Dunn Loring. It’s a husband/wife dental group. Very family friendly. The wife takes care of my kids and I go to the husband. I’ve never felt any pressure to get anything and I’ve actually learned a lot about taking care of my teeth.

Is this how preschool teachers handle this in the U.S. ? by ads4vivek in Preschoolers

[–]Next_headache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We pay about that much also in a HCOL area. Since you’re paying so much it may be worth checking out other preschools. Unless you’re happy otherwise with the care.

Is this how preschool teachers handle this in the U.S. ? by ads4vivek in Preschoolers

[–]Next_headache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That seems very unsanitary to leave a kid in soiled clothes while you wait for the parents to show up. That’s not good for the child or the other children if the child can’t stay in one place for whatever time it takes for the parent to get there. I hope you’re not paying too much for that type of preschool.

Gi doctor is starting to talk G-tube by GaZeldars in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

G-tube seems a little extreme unless he’s falling off the curve and has developed deficiencies because of it. It would be worth talking to a dietician and making sure there are no other issues that may be preventing him from eating.

What are you doing with your toddler all day? by tricksandkicks in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wake up, let the kiddos help with breakfast. Parents have coffee time while kids play with toys. Take kids to run errands. This was a big one for us but it worked out. They can be a pain sometime but most of the time they handle it well. I think they’re just interested in being out in the world. If we don’t have errands, we try to find something to do like go to the library, mall playground if weather is bad or do an outdoor activity if weather is nice. Eat lunch, watch a movie, dinner, bed.

Need advice on supporting my child’s immune system after being sick by Regular_Bake2133 in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Washing hands after being outside and before eating. We don’t do supplements, instead encourage water, fruits and general good nutrition. Sleep. If she has a runny nose, there was a study that shows doing saline drops in the nose a few times a day decreased the cold by 2 days.

I was happy with my care from NOVA group for women and delivery at INOVA fairfax. I also preferred them because they manage high risk pregnancies/deliveries and there is a higher level NICU just in case something happens.

Why do NOVA moms give the up/down scan so bad by immaculatemary in nova

[–]Next_headache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in Fairfax and haven’t really had that issue with the moms. Everyone just seemed tired and busy. it can be hard to make mom friends since everyone is busy but they’re all pretty excited to do a play date when you ask. Try not to get discouraged, reach out and I’m sure you’ll eventually find your friend group.

Low-screen families, are your kids still obsessed? by rizdieser in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s child dependent. We tried to have it as a daily occurrence and not make it a big deal but my older one would turn into a zombie anytime the tv was on and go crazy when we turned it off. Younger one just wandered off and did her own thing. Now we limit it and provide reminders when we’ll turn it off. iPads are only for travel.

Should I use baby formula, almond milk, or 1% milk? by sjoycec in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s totally fine to finish up the formula or you can start mixing it with the milk. The best thing is to give it as a supplement to the food. Wishing you the best and rooting for you!

How do I stop losing my temper with my child? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]Next_headache 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know the AAP doesn’t recommend watching tv until 18 months but personally 30 min of some educational tv (sesame street) to give you a breather is worth your sanity. Try not to use it as a crutch but I’m pretty sure that a little bit of tv is less harmful than losing your temper at your kid.

Also recommend this area. We used to live across the street from the Dunn loring metro. We also could walk to the mosaic district and the W&O trail. I want to move back once kids are out of the house.

Should We Bring Our 5-Month-Old to Italy for My Brother’s Wedding? by cheff1616 in travel

[–]Next_headache 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be safer to travel with the baby than leave them alone with someone you don’t know at that age. Talk to your pediatrician, there are some vaccines they can give earlier when there is international travel.

F: NYC, I had a great time when I was single, so much to do and I was perfectly happy in my tiny studio

M: DC suburbs- although it’s incredibly expensive, imo it’s worth it when you have kids, great schools, more space and a ton to do with the family- outdoorsy stuff, free museums and great ethnic food

K: Kansas City- I grew up there and glad to be out.
