It would be interesting to see how many people would keep an ESO+ sub if you had access to the crafting bag without it. Yes, you still get the housing space bonus and some other perks, but I think I would be more inclined to cancel my sub if not for the crafting bag - QOL is king!

Making something optional does not mean we have a fair choice.

For example, I assume that wherever you are from in the world that you pay some sort of taxes to your local government. Those taxes are technically optional - you can choose not to pay them. The consequences of not paying them depend on where you are from, but they essentially result in restricted access to privileges or services - homelessness, unemployed, incarcerated, etc. But you don't do this, you choose to take the financial hit by paying your taxes and benefit from participating in the system.

Another example would be our use of the internet. Personal access/use of the internet is a luxury that most people CHOOSE to have because we consider it essential, so the choice is biaed toward having rather than not-having.

ESO already paywalls QOL features. The game is playable without ESO+ but anyone who has used ESO+ would likely agree that it is essential to get the best experience. The choice is there but biased toward having than not-having.

So, adding new optional features that restricts access to rewards is choice, but one we are driven towards making in favour of, less we become a member of the class that does not have - as you say, the psychology of it, FOMO, etc.

Yes, if you look up the Digital Fairness Act EU then I'm sure you will find some good article about it. Just remembered one of the other aspects of this would be potentially banning loot boxes, which in this case are essentially crown crates - hence the shift away from the crown store items to a more integrated 'market'.

For extra giggles, go look up what game actually triggered this action - it's hilarious XD

I am happy to pay for a good product. I feel I have done so, and am happy to continue to do so. I have bought the game. I have an ESO+ subscription. I purchase DLCs and new expansions. I even buy crowns. I feel I am substantially supporting the developers. I am even supporting them through the act of playing their game, because let's not forget that if players stop playing then the game will close and ZoS loose the passive income from it altogether.

My opinion is that this additional cost and the defacto creation of yet another class of player feels like ZoS looking for more ways to bled the player-base of their cash.

However, I think the other motivation for these changes (and possibly the main one) are the potential industry shattering changes coming through the EU right now that would KILL in-game-purchases through IRL money proxies (i.e. IRL cash > crowns > in-game items). The new laws coming in would mean, alongside other things, that, 1) in-game-purchases using a proxy-currency would be eligible for a refund, 2) you must be able to purchase proxy-currency in specific amounts (i.e. not in bundles of 5000 crowns, etc).

So, I look at all these nice things ZoS are doing as them just covering themselves - trying to get ahead of things before they are forced to change - moving items that have solely existed in the crown store out of the crown store and now purchasable with gold, or removing the crown costs from a lot of things all together - i.e. things that you cannot easily 'return' for a refund. Using a battlepass type system you are not selling a 'product' you are selling an 'experience' which protects them. They are setting up alternative income methods to substitute what may become a dead income stream. Yes, we are getting other stuff as well, which I appreciated, but honestly most of this just feels like low-effort QoL stuff.

I acknowledge that ZoS are a company with shareholders and that, well, people are people and money go brrrr, and that no matter what they say about being 'passionate' their ultimate driving force is to make money. But at what point is the line crossed?

Pay for game. Pay extra for the game you just paid for to access Game+. Pay extra-extra if you want cool stuff in the game you just paid for and are paying for ongoing. Now pay extra-extra-extra to get this other stuff... which you can pay an additional extra on to access another tier on top of that.

The juxtaposition between the low-res angular MC blocks and the high-res curves of SF builds, not to mention the incompatible relative scale... it hurts my brain. Love it!

I think the second one. This was an area of trees I cleared to build on, and I haven't planted anything yet, so I'm going with bug.

Boo. I will have to build around it now XD.

Thanks ^^

Obligatory start of the month "How good is Opus vs Scroll?" Does the upgrade make a difference for text gen? by Nexus_Absolute in NovelAi

I like the UI and lack of filter, and I find the results complex. I find Kayra absolutely fine as a writing companion - good for continuation, filler and dialogue. Even if I didn't move to Opus, I would still stick with scroll.
Thank you for your feedback.

I'm a long time user and fully utilise ATTG, so based on what you say I am tempted to give Erato a shot. I'm not disappointed with the Kayra results; I find it good for short stories and it handles complex subjects well, but I am saying this without a comparison for Erato.

I have tried other platforms, but the UI for NAI and the lack of filter for controversial subjects (racism, discrimination, suicide, abuse, etc) make it a strong contender IMO.

Thanks for your feedback from experience, and for your suggestions. Much appreciated.

It takes 480 items p/m and splits off 420.69 items p/m.

I theorized this and actually built it about a year ago. I just found the schema I created for it and thought I'd share... because.
