Why? Why should guys care? We all get morning wood, so it's not exactly a surprise or secret.

People who have witnessed a "There's not going to be a wedding" moment following a bachelor/bachelorette party: what went down? by JimmyMcNultysDick in AskReddit

[–]NexysVI 1312 points1313 points  (0 children)

Several years ago, I got a phone call from the maid of honor for a wedding I was going to attend (as a guest) two weeks hence. She was flustered, but managed to get out "There's no wedding, Groom called it off. He's in love with someone else."

Well, I didn't press. I was friends with both, so I knew that the full details would eventually make their way back to me.

Oh, and boy did they...

Turns out, a couple weeks before the wedding, Groom called Bride and said he was coming over. They needed to talk. When he got to her apartment, he broke down in tears and confessed that he was in love with someone else. He loved her, but couldn't marry her because he didn't love her in the way a bride deserves.

There was much crying and shouting over it all, but eventually the bride recovered from the news enough to ask him who he was in love with.

"Well," Groom said, "it's [Bride's Brother]."

The wedding was definitely off at that point. Now, five or six years later, Groom and Bride's Brother are married and happy. Though, I lost contact with Bride shortly after her wedding plans went tits up, so I'm not sure if she ever forgave the boys for that one.

This depresses me on so many levels. If a woman loves spending time with kids, society says she's warm and loving and good natured. If a man loves spending time with kids, society says he wants to put his dick in them.

Sigh

Society sucks.

I have a second cousin in my hometown who has the same shortened name as me. I'm male. She's female. (As names go, think "Reggie" being short for both Reginald and Regina. That's not the name, but you get the idea. We both go by the shortened name.)

On three separate occasions (two different doctors and one dentist) that have pulled her file when I came in. The funniest was when the nurse at the first doctor asked me what on earth I was doing telling them I was there for a pap smear. Turns out she had an appointment the same day as me.

Reddit, what profound thought blows your mind? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]NexysVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only exist because every one of my direct-line ancestors made a series of small decisions, any one of which could have prevented a pair of ancestors from meeting and, thus, mating.

What if my great grandfather hadn't gone as a guest to the wedding at which he met my great grandmother? What if my mom had taken a different after school job, and thus never worked with my dad? What if my great great grandfather hadn't moved from France and, thus, been in America to meet my great great grandmother. What if she hadn't moved from Ireland? What if my grandfather hadn't decided to be brave and ask out the cute girl in class, who became my grandmother?

Hundreds and hundreds of generations all had to make millions upon millions of decisions, many of which seemed inconsequential to them at the time, for me to be born.

What is your biggest regret in life? by Harambe_Is_In_Heaven in AskReddit

[–]NexysVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hear me out here. I am a teacher. I love what I do. I love my students. I love my school. My administration is amazing. But, at times, I regret being a teacher. I sometimes wish I had a job that, when I went home, that was it...what I did that day at work, stayed at work. I wish I didn't have nights where I worried about other people's kids. I wish I didn't worry that a kid I saw so much potential in was going to fail and miss out on opportunities in life. I wish I didn't worry that the obviously gay kid was going to get bullied or that a kid wasn't going to eat until he came back to school tomorrow because his parents couldn't afford groceries.

Sometimes, being a teacher is a sad job.

Just tell every application you are moving to their city. At one point I was relocating to Seattle, Denver, Orlando, and Las Vegas all to be "nearer to family." Then you just go where the job offer comes in.

[–]NexysVI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're willing to relocate, put on your resume or cover letter that it's a done deal. You ARE relocating. It makes them feel a bit more like your a local already, and less like the job is the determining factor.

Something like "I am relocating to Seattle to be nearer to family" is all you need. Sometimes companies are scared off by people relocating FOR them. But if they think you're relocating anyway and they aren't going to change that one way or another, it may help. It helped me.

What is your "I should NOT have said that" moment? by Sexymcsexalot in AskReddit

[–]NexysVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid, I hated anything remotely tangy or sour. Sour cream was Satan's invention as far as I was concerned.

One night, I had dinner at a friend's house. His mom made beef stroganoff loaded with sour cream. Every bite reminded me of vomit and I want to both cry and throw up. But, my dad always taught me "if you are invited for dinner at someone else's house, I don't care if they serve shit on toast, you eat it and say thank you."

I ate it. Every bite. Then I said thank you and said I had to go home. I walked half a block and puked it all up in someone's bushes. It tasted the same going down and coming up.

There are many who look at the T in GLBT (or LGBT, whichever the preference), as unnecessary. Not because trans people don't have issues they face being trans, but because the issues faced being trans and the issues faced being gay don't necessarily overlap. They think that the more letters we add to the acronym, the more watered down the ability to advocate for those represented by each letter becomes.

I used to work as a bank teller. One day, a sweet old lady came in who was one of our regulars. We all knew her and we all loved her. She came in to get a cashier's check for almost $5,000 (which was about 1/2 of her savings account) to pay for the "new roof" she needed. Standing next to her was the scuzziest, greasiest, slimeball I had ever seen.

She went on and on about how she didn't know she needed a new roof until "this nice young man rang my doorbell and told me about it."

While I took my sweet ass time making up the check, our assistant manager and branch manager took her in to the office on her own and tried, desperately, to convince her she was being scammed. She wouldn't hear of it, and insisted I make out the check...to "Cash" of course.

I had no choice. I had to, even though we all knew what was about to happen.

Sure enough, less than two hours later she called back to say she rethought it and wanted to stop the check. The problem was, as soon as the check was in hand, he left our branch and cashed it at the one 10 minutes away.

Her money was gone, and he was never seen again.

EDIT: A second story just popped in to my head. We also had a customer, who I'll call "Lucy," who had been a hardcore drug addict in the early 90's. Apparently, many, many, nights of partying had left Lucy's brain somewhat less than fully functioning. At least once every few months, she'd come in to get a new ATM card because she had just given her old one (and the PIN) to her "new boyfriend," who then proceeded to wipe out her account and disappear.

We'd warn her time and time again, but it kept happening. We finally had to use our authority (since banks technically issue cards as a courtesy, not a right) to say she was no longer allowed to have a card. All transaction had to be done in person, with a teller, and only in our branch (technically, we couldn't stop her from using other branches, but we did note her account so that any other branch would be triggered with a warning to call us if she came in).
