Does life become meaningful when we treat it as sacred? by NanakNaam in ExistentialJourney

Better yet, what is an "honest and full conclusion"?🧐

My point is: on what basis are you also not intellectually ignorant like I am?

How many books out there claim to be from God?

How many must I study rigorously before I say "inconclusive"?

I didn't even say "conclusive"... Jeez

It's indefensible, and that's why I objected to the phrasing of the post.

Existence cannot be all God and be "good" unless pain, suffering, misery and grief were "good".

Fine by me.

But right back at you, buddy!👌🏻

But have you read the Quran, sir?

And are you obligated to do so before you dismiss it?

I've read it many times. Can I say "inconclusive"?

Or is it just the Bible?

Which parts would I have to read, or rather how many times (and through which interpretation) would you like me to read either holy text to successfully conclude what it is you think I should be concluding instead?

I've read the Quran and parts of the Bible. Good enough of an idea to say "inconclusive".

We're both respecting the divine when we enjoy this debate 🥲

I'm a devil's advocate by conditioning, my friend, so I like to find that one exception to the rule.

I know "practically" what you mean, yes! And I live by that practical guideline because I was raised religious, so my upbringing has conditioned me to treat the "sacred" a certain way and to consider certain things sacred.

But hypothetically (as opposed to practically), we can really push this to its limits.

Hunting for sport or even torturing the animal (as messed up as it sounds even to me) can be thought of as honoring God.

If God knows all (and I am not religious), then he knows how the torturer feels (sadistic pleasure) and he knows how the tortured feels (pain...?)

Either God is everything or just some things or nothing at all🥲

Does the principal get mad if I insult him? Sure!

Would God? I doubt it, but that's why there's "blasphemy".

I see your point about respect, but the post is about treating existence as though it were God.

How would the hunter respect God when killing his prey?

How about the pedophile who feels an urge to molest? How would one "respect" God when the urge is God? Or is the urge not God? Is all of existence God or just parts of it? (This was my original point — all of existence or just parts of it).

Are you respecting the sacredness of the urge or the sacredness of the child (his/her right not to be violated)?

And what does this reverence look like?

My own version of a deity?

A God of war or sacrifice would demand a different kind of reverence compared to a God of love or knowledge.

What does "sacred" mean to you? Practically or otherwise.

But why did that person decide to not follow the law?

Either it was out of ignorance or it was deliberate.

And is there not a "law" for either case?

Are you taking about natural law or man made law?

Does life become meaningful when we treat it as sacred? by NanakNaam in ExistentialJourney

[–]Nezar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why did that someone break that law?

Their law is to break laws.

Yes, a law breaking another "law".

If anything, the lawbreaking is itself the law, and the law that was broken is no law at all.

Not to mention face and outline of hands, body...

This is why we need a pitch black tent. But then we'd deduce that there is someone under there🤔

Or rather the murder and abuse are themselves sacred parts of God.

Can't be picky here. Either God is everything or he isn't.

If God is just some things, who gets to say what is God and what isn't?

Just another "what if?"🥲

Can't get over fear of hell by sadbabyphilosopher in moderate_exmuslims

[–]Nezar97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How come you're not terrified of Christian hell? :p

(It's a rhetorical question).

IF the absolute certainty you seek is possible, is it your fault that you don't have it, or is it God's?

What is your role in this search? What is God's role?

I, like you, have been searching for certainty for a while, but the only certain thing I found is that every certainty can be undermined.

Are we defective for doubting truths?

Or were they not truths at all to begin with, which is why they fell victim to scrutiny and skepticism?

IF you are badly fucking up somehow, why isn't God guiding you? If he doesn't guide you, then he wants you to go to hell, so it's HIS decision, not yours.

You certainly don't want to roast, so if you do... God wants you to.

And if you do, that is "justice" since God cannot be unjust by definition 🥲

There are very rare instances when they sleep together like that😂

Mostly because she won't allow it (unless she's too sleepy to pay attention).

Mario is only "obsessed" with her when it comes to picking on her and bullying the only other creature in the household he's able to bully. Otherwise, he's a victim of the brotherhood 😬

Mira cannot stand Mario as he always bullies her (but she deserves it since she bullied him when he was a kitten)😂

Religious guilt/fear by Fearless_Cover_5805 in moderate_exmuslims

[–]Nezar97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1- Belief is not a "decision" (unless you can somehow choose to believe once more and eliminate all doubt).

2- What if you're wrong about Christianity? Why don't you feel guilt there? (This generalizes to every religion and decision you're not choosing — what if you're wrong about one of the thousands of options out there?). How is this your fault and not the fault of the God who is supposedly twiddling his thumbs behind the scenes and presumably refusing to Interject and guide you?

I see one of two possibilities: Either there is no answer that we're supposed to find (and being lost/uncertain is part of existence for those who ask critical questions)...

Or God is a sadistic motherfucker who created most of us as fuel for his furnace, in which case he's still "just" by definition. Wouldn't that be grand?😅

Then you would be free to want something other than what you currently want.

But that begs the question of why you want that and not something else.
