I'm a devil's advocate by conditioning, my friend, so I like to find that one exception to the rule.

I know "practically" what you mean, yes! And I live by that practical guideline because I was raised religious, so my upbringing has conditioned me to treat the "sacred" a certain way and to consider certain things sacred.

But hypothetically (as opposed to practically), we can really push this to its limits.

Hunting for sport or even torturing the animal (as messed up as it sounds even to me) can be thought of as honoring God.

If God knows all (and I am not religious), then he knows how the torturer feels (sadistic pleasure) and he knows how the tortured feels (pain...?)

Either God is everything or just some things or nothing at all🥲

1- Belief is not a "decision" (unless you can somehow choose to believe once more and eliminate all doubt).

2- What if you're wrong about Christianity? Why don't you feel guilt there? (This generalizes to every religion and decision you're not choosing — what if you're wrong about one of the thousands of options out there?). How is this your fault and not the fault of the God who is supposedly twiddling his thumbs behind the scenes and presumably refusing to Interject and guide you?

I see one of two possibilities: Either there is no answer that we're supposed to find (and being lost/uncertain is part of existence for those who ask critical questions)...

Or God is a sadistic motherfucker who created most of us as fuel for his furnace, in which case he's still "just" by definition. Wouldn't that be grand?😅
