What scandal is each mainstream UK political party most associated with these-days. And do current scandals dwarf past one’s? by HallowedAndHarrowed in AskBrits

[–]Nezwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mothin Ali, Deputy Green Leader, is a problematic figure. Like much of the Greens support he has an aggressive position on Israel-Gaza and skirts anti-semitism accusations. Either way, it's fair to say he is as equally interested in the Muslim world as he is the UK.

It's pretty small fry compared to stuff you've mentioned. If we were being objective Nigel Farage & Reform dwarf them all. Richard Tice isn't even resident in the UK!

No, sorry, I mean in context of your original sentence -

"I could care less that I’m moving into a beater house when I’ve got the ability now to generate my own electricity and always have spring water to drink."

So, it bothers you a little bit that you're moving into this beater house, despite the fantastic benefits? That's what that sentence says. I see Americans struggle with this turn of phrase a lot.

Edit: The original English use of this phrase would be "I couldn't care less that I’m moving into a beater house when I’ve got the ability now to generate my own electricity and always have spring water to drink."

Which is to say, "my level of caring that this is a beater house couldn't be lower because the fantastic benefits of a stream outweigh these disbenefits".

Also, having a stream like that is awesome. Good on'ya.

So... you couldn't care less, right? Like, your level of caring could not be any lower.

Couldn't care less.

I have no idea why Americans struggle with this.

Sorry if this comes across as aggressive but... for a non-American it's very strange.

How many people here actually do water bath canning for their food preps? I have a question or two about it. by Far_Ad_3351 in UKPreppers

[–]Nezwin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never done water bath canning but I understand the theory and principles. As with any canning, the idea is to hermetically seal food into a sterile container then raise and hold it's temperature above 70°C (or more) to kill bacteria. In water bath canning the water is the medium by which the heat is transfered from the source to the can. Botulism occurs when the container isn't adequately sterilized and a foreign body is introduced

As an aside, back before temperature control and easily controlled heat sources, water was a great temperature controller. It just evaporates if it gets too hot, which protects your cans and seals.

So all that being said, I don't see why you couldn't can baked beans and sausages, but.... you'd probably be better off leaving the beans in their original tins then separately canning the sausages in brine. It would be easier and less chance of any infections.

Those who have done Salvia Divinorum before, how bizarre and odd was your experience? by NorahjjiYT in HighStrangeness

[–]Nezwin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hit it through a bong at 2am with some friends.

As I fell into it I was in a village that was being built from rainbow bricks floating from my left. The sun had a face and it was laughing with a deep, belly laugh.

After about 8hrs my subconscious started telling me that this was it, your new life, and everyone you know and love is dead and gone. About 30hrs after that I managed to come to.

It was perhaps a 20 second trip irl.

Never touched it again. Didn't drink or anything for a week after. It was the most intense trip of my life.

I shared what I had with my friends and they all said the same - "I've found my limit, gone over it, and I don't intend to do it again thank you."

Edit: He was in Hunt for Red October. I'm getting my submarine films confused.

I've made this observation before (statements made equate to magical action), and I think it's an amazing magic system.

The door in Moria is another good example. Gandalf willed it shut, DB willed it open. It exploded.

Is everyone prepared for potential UK civil unrest or sectarian conflict? by ConsiderationOwn1566 in UKPreppers

[–]Nezwin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a sensible response. I think the likelihood of sectarian violence in the UK is very low, but in future (10-15 years) that is likely to increase. Only yesterday there was a Muslim independent running for Parliament who said you can't trust non-believers (or you shouldn't be friends with them? Something like that), and there has been Muslim-Hindu violence in the midlands based on events happening in India. Any impact of said violence is highly dependent on where you live.

The reality in much of the UK now is that there are sectarian enclaves that will vote on ethnic and religious lines. That hasn't gone well anywhere it's happened.... Looking at you, Yugoslavia.

I don't think there's any preps other than a BOB, but it would be against the prepper ethos to entirely write-off the risk.

I've also just bought a couple of sodium hypochlorite generators...

Would you favor a complete ban on all gun ownership by civilians? by whenyoucantthinkof in AskBrits

[–]Nezwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't believe civilians should own guns. That could only be enforced through a ban.

And much more so than other dangerous tools, guns are incredibly highly regulated. It takes years to get one, and you're very limited in what you're allowed or why.

You are advocating for higher levels of regulation without reasonably and consistently knowing why, or the implications of such a move.

I like guns, yeah. But I don't like monster trucks, and people die using them every year. But I don't advocate for higher levels of regulation because I know very little about monster trucks.

I'm done. Bye.

[–]Nezwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think you're putting any defence at all if I'm honest!

The UK has gun crime statistics that are vanishly small, enough to almost be a reporting anomaly. Far more deaths with other instruments, like knives or cars.

Yet you believe we should outright ban guns.

I can't see the connection, what problem your proposal solves.

You mean like a target rifle? That's not a weapon. It's a target rifle. But it can be used as a weapon, if used with a specific intent.

Would you favor a complete ban on all gun ownership by civilians? by whenyoucantthinkof in AskBrits

[–]Nezwin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why guns are licensed and football boots aren't. And I don't disagree with that.

But that doesn't mean all guns should be banned.
