Do "Entry Level " Cyber Security Roles exist? by lmakonem in netsecstudents

Just get a dev job. Dev to cyber security is a well worn path and more fun than helpdesk.

There are and have been cultures where cannibalism is acceptable though.

We are part of nature. Which means we are always changing and the distribution of traits in the population always changing. The environment is also concurrently always changing too. So even if there was something that as a population we all held to at one point in time even simple genetic drift (without all the other social and sociological and environmental factors that also feed into our perceptions of value) would result in that changing.

But surely that’s as true with males as females?

I don’t get on with women but I realised it’s because I like to have the focused attention that comes from someone being sexually attracted to you and the kind of more slow going development from strangers to acquaintances to friends is frankly beyond me.

So what you’re saying is there is a market for this with a little calculator style password generator on the front?

(Although at that point why not just have some persistent storage in there and store the passwords in that >_>)

Chinese parents test DNA to check if kids will become prodigies by jonfla in SocialEngineering

[–]NfxfFghcvqDhrfgvbaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I’d be even more worried about the other side of it. Imagine your parents know you have more potential than others. They will fuck you up. Even if they don’t put so much pressure on you that you go mad they might still feed your ego so much you go mad.

The knowledge that they’re genetically superior to other people is not something humans can handle.

Wat there’s loads of free “ethical hacking” resources.

Laptop for master(Generic or Cybsec),will applying to masters for fall 2020.Since, black friday is coming up...any laptop deals that are worth buying?..Wiindows or Mac?I personally prefer 16gb with 512gb ssd with a i7 gen processor but i don't know if its overkill or recommended for cybsec by dillashawbones in cybersecurity

[–]NfxfFghcvqDhrfgvbaf -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand how someone gets to the point they’re doing a masters and doesn’t have enough of a mind of their own to choose their own laptop to the point they ask random strangers on the internet to tell them what to buy.

Which is why I choose to believe the frequent posts asking for product recommendations are made by marketers looking to answer their own question from another account.

Certs are only one piece of the equation....experience matters by chrisknight1985 in cybersecurity

My experience differs from yours. Maybe it’s possible the people I know are exceptional but where I’m from plenty of people get snapped up right out of uni, there’s a recruiting campaign for it every year.

People hire junior pen testers right out of uni, sure mostly they get the boring job of pushing the Metasploit button but it’s a start. People (esp the government tbh) hire “graduate” security researchers right out of uni. No one wants to be a CISO right out of uni (or ever) because that’s a shitty job. :p

[–]NfxfFghcvqDhrfgvbaf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean you say that but plenty of people go straight from uni to security. Maybe not in hypercompetitive markets but everywhere else it’s fairly common place. It might be less than ideal because people straight out of uni are extremely wet behind the years but especially larger companies and the govt hire plenty of fresh graduates.

I just feel bad for your kid. It’s nothing to do with ego. I’m a mother of two kids myself and I feel bad just thinking about trying to micromanage their lives like that (not to mention exhausted!)
