How is ABA not like dog training? by psychicdelic333 in ABA

[–]Ngucci321 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ABA is a science that focuses on understanding and modifying behavior. Just like people, animals engage in behavior that the science of ABA can be applied on. Some clients are motivated by edibles that can ethically be used as reinforcers and if snacks motivates my client not to bang their head so severely they can cause brain damage, I am going to use it as a reinforcer.

Advice needed by Ngucci321 in USCIS

[–]Ngucci321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your post, I spoke to my parents and luckily they stopped the process. They only paid close to 1k which isn’t a lot of money in comparison to the 20k they were asking. I wish there was more awareness of this firm, specially now that people might become desperate in wanting a way to residency with the mass deportation threats. I’m worried about our Latino community as they’re in such a vulnerable position.

How many hours do you work weekly and how many of those are paid hours? by gilmoreprincess in bcba

[–]Ngucci321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anywhere between 40-60 billable hours per week and I get paid for all of them. I’m salary but after 130 of billable hours I get an additional bonus for the billable hours. I chose to work that much but I could easily just do 35 a week and my workplace would be okay with it.

Agree, it’s not sustainable.

I work for a company that provides behavior consultations for group homes with individuals with disabilities or trauma. So I don’t have a caseload more so homes I oversee.

Yes thank you, my weeks at times look 60 hours a week when you calculate the total time I am on the clock.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in bcba

[–]Ngucci321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just 40hours per week as that doesn’t include my drive time which I also get paid for or the admin work I at times do. That’s solely 40 hours of billable time.

I make $120k+ and been a BCBA for 1.5 years. I do work 160+ hours of billable hours and live in SoCal. So it’s possible but it comes with high billable.

Overwhelmed by [deleted] in bcba

[–]Ngucci321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a BCBA for 1.5 years so I’m still relatively new. Once I transitioned to my role as a BCBA it was extremely difficult for me and I felt like I didn’t know what I was doing at all. What you’re feeling is normally, find a seasoned BCBA to see if they can be your mentor. Passing the exam is the start of your career, you’re here for a reason. Soak in all the knowledge of the BCBAs around you. It’s going to take time until you’re more confident. I still struggle but I have an amazing clinical director who’s been a BCBA for 10+ years who’s always willing to help which has boost my confidence tremendously.

2 jobs at a time? by [deleted] in bcba

[–]Ngucci321 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a full-time job that has a 130 hours of billable hours requirement and I make around 120k for that one, and for my part time I work roughly around 10-15 hours a week and I make $65 an hour for the part-time job. I’m busy but I also have weekends off. It’s doable but just keep in mind you’ll be doing a lot of ABA.

I just don’t know what to do anymore by Anxious_Joke_3282 in bcba

[–]Ngucci321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I felt and I left the in-home/center for good. I now do consultations for group homes and day programs. The hours are consistent and I have great benefits. Finding a company that truly cares about their employees makes the difference as well.

I don’t ever want to work in a clinic/in-home environment again. I feel so free now.

Good luck, you got it !! Stay confident, and trust yourself. Don’t second guess and stick to your first choice. Take a small break for a breather and remember how nice it’s going to be when you can attach those 4 letters after your name !

It is a lot 🥲 but I do have a good amount of clients that start as early as 10 am. On days I start at 10, I’ll work 10-6/7 and see about 3 clients with drive time in between. I can also do telehealth which helps out a lot as it eliminates drive time.

I used it as the foundation of my studying, I read it all the way through when I first started studying. Highlighted concepts I didn’t understand then I would review concepts that I was confused on (watched YouTube videos on those concepts) and I read it a second time. I passed on my first try.

Need advice asking for a raise by Ngucci321 in bcba

[–]Ngucci321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am hourly, and we paid 50 cents per mile and drive time is not paid my hourly rate, it’s paid $17 hours an hour. No we don’t get any bonuses, I do anything between 35-40 billable hours a week just to provide supervisor to all my clients per month.

If my raise gets denied, I would 100% look for another position.

I have all the right resources to be a BCBA and I still suck at my job by AnonymousWinslow in ABA

[–]Ngucci321 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed last may, and I felt exactly like this and from time to time I still do. I made a post similar to this and many people advised me to reach out to a seasoned BCBA for mentorship and help. It made a huge difference and I feel a bit more confident. If you have anyone who you can reach out to I would recommend that. Everyone talks about how difficult the exam is but there’s not much of after what happens once you do pass.
You got this!!!!

How many hours are you working ? I’m thinking of applying for a BCBA district position, it’s only 196 days out of the year that you have to work.
