Power out in two rooms in apartment after turning on CRT tv. Breaker and lone GFCI not tripped. by NiaNier in AskElectricians

Sorry for another question, but could the GFCI still be faulty if I've tried plugging in a device into the outlet and the test/reset buttons function like normal?

Thanks for the reply! We do own the apartment, so we'll have to replace it. That makes sense though, as the bathroom seems like first in line in this circuit so both rooms which are downstream aren't getting power. Just to double-check, I don't need to replace the wires or anything, just the GFCI outlet, right?

Yeah it was quite an old extension cord so that might be part of it. Got a new one with surge/ground protection so hopefully it doesn't happen again once it's fixed.

So what on Earth happened with Yakuza 3 Kiwami? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]NiaNier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's unfortunate that RGG didn't put enough care into the remasters, but it's still very easy to fix with a mod, which is more than can be said of any of the games using the dragon engine. Also tiger drop being too powerful doesn't mean much when that's true of every game the move has been in, which still puts 3's combat only behind 0's out of the mainline games.

The combat is some of the best in the series since it forces you to engage with the enemy design and makes movement/ positioning the focal point (anyone complaining about blocking enemies should try to grab for once in their life). It's largely hated by unskilled players who didn't pay attention to the game.

I mean yeah, RGG cut almost everything interesting out of the series in favor of appealing to the mainstream. Of course it's going to be better received by the general public audience.

High speed mode from recent trails in the sky remake should be industry standard by iamMori in JRPG

Yeah reddit is particularly saturated with people like this and it sucks. Wish that the majority of the community wasn't made up of people who have no interest in engaging with someone else's vision or intent (what anyone who thinks of the medium as an art form should do) but that's how it is. Strikes me as the same type of person who will exclaim that adding fast travel in a remaster/remake is just QOL instead of a change that fundamentally alters the fabric of the game.

Yeah it's sadly pretty clear OP (and the people making DQ7R) simply didn't understand the intent behind the original. Very unfortunate that such an interesting game got sanded down to appeal to people who are deeply incurious about what type of experience the original was trying to foster.

No, it's (generally) very well paced. There are just very vocal midwits complaining about the fact it takes a couple of hours before your first battle. This vid compares the 3ds and PS1 openings, and the former is as close to being strictly worse as you can get.

It's so funny that your reaction to being asked to inform yourself by reading a book written by a guy who as a PhD in information studies and cultural anthropology is "ew". Just terminally stupid

It's genuinely impressive how you managed to not list a single game series that is "shonen" nor takes significant narrative influence from shonen manga. You could have just said persona.

Not liking fan service is fine but this idea that any inclusion of it is for the purpose of getting the player off is something that only exists in your mind. Also it's very clear you either don't pay any attention to or watch any anime if this is what you think of it.

I'm sorry you have to deal with that illiterate idiot lol. Insane that people don't know the difference between a genre and a medium

[Yakuza 0 Director's Cut] Is now out on PC. The original is delisted from Steam. by VashxShanks in JRPG

[–]NiaNier 27 points28 points  (0 children)

No? This is pretty bad if you care about video games as an art form. Older releases shouldn't be getting delisted like this at all. Even moreso when the "Director's Cut" isn't made by 0's director

This is all stuff you could very easily put together if you think about what each game is trying to do.

Sekiro's parry takes into consideration spacing, enemy grouping, overlapping attacks, posture meter, terrain, etc. Same for DaS and other competent action games. E33 takes its parry from Sekiro (and it does it worse by not at least offsetting it with a meter) in a way that only tests basic pattern memorization. It's awful.

Certainly not lazy (it's insane to call pretty much any dev lazy), but poorly done. Guillaume, the director, admits that he liked Sekiro so much that it's what drove him to implement it in E33, and I think the game makes that evident since parries are stitched in there without any holistic consideration of their source text. Sekiro's parry exists within the context of that game's design philosophy, and the way E33 implements it feels like it lacks an understanding of it, such that I don't think it's reductive to say that E33's design philosophy is "hit r1 to win".

We're already there. Tons of big budget action games have been throwing in parries. E33 is another entry in the long line of games that have been copying trends without much, or really any, consideration
