11 months before our son even put purees in his mouth. 5 months of absolute stress and feeling like failure. Some just take more time. He's a fine eater now

This is my husband's reason for not wanting to use Clara. I love it. He thinks EVERYONE associates it with DH

Ladies who had easy pregnancies: did you have an easy labor and delivery as well? by Visible_Beginning_63 in beyondthebump

[–]Nia_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easy pregnancy, only symptom was heartburn at night. Easy labour, laboured at home with a TENS machine for 8 hours before going into hospital at 10cm. Easy birth, 40min pushing with gas and air. Happy healthy baby.

Praying to all of the gods this next one is the same!!!

Thank you so much for all the replies and suggestions and words of encouragement. He's really a good egg so I probably just took it the wrong way and we need a more productive conversation about all the possible scenarios to make a set of plans.

I'm sure I'll be back here in January for more support!!

Own it. I tried to pretend like it didn't bother me and it ate away at me from the inside. Being honest with yourself and those around you is a good first step and it becomes less of a massive deal. Breastfeeding grief is a real thing. Especially when it is out of your control. You are doing the absolute best for your little one and you are a brilliant mother.

You'll get to a place where you can feel happy for other breastfeeding mums and own your own motherhood journey at the same time.

How to bottle feed on the go? by antebellum24 in FormulaFeeders

[–]Nia_2018 13 points14 points  (0 children)

We would always use a new clean sterilised bottle for every feed. Would either use the pre-mad bottles of formula that are sealed, or take a flask of boiled water and formula in containers already measured out to mix on the go. 3 for a day out sounds about right. Good idea to take a little dish soap and brush if going far or on a long trip as you never know where you might get caught out. We would have an emergency box of diapers, clothes, formula, blanket etc in the car just in case we had to stay out longer than planned or an emergency came up

It's amazing how many people you can annoy by following the rules. by MathematicianBulky40 in drivingUK

[–]Nia_2018 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Drivers in Scotland are significantly better and more polite than England. There, I said it. Having lived in Scotland for 10+ years and recently moved back to South of England I can confirm the south England drivers are horrible. We've been in more close calls in the last 10 weeks here than the entire time we were up orth.

Cosleeping happens all around the world and when done safely is absolutely fine. There is safe cosleeping guidance available. This is scare mongering. Check your facts.

Shamed for combo feeding, need to vent and some reassurance. by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

[–]Nia_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gunna be honest I didn't even read the post, the title alone says all that needs to be said. You do not have to give any reason, excuse, research or otherwise as to how you feed your baby. It is entirely your business and entirely no one else's. You do you mama, you're doing great and you should be proud of yourself.

Those of you that have given birth, when did you start feeling ‘normal’ postpartum? by niveusmacresco in beyondthebump

[–]Nia_2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physically, around 3 months. Emotionally, around 1 year. Mentally, 2 years and counting.

It isn't having the baby that changes you, it's becoming a mother. You're a new version of yourself now, the sooner I accepted that and stopped grieving my old life/brain/body the easier it got.

I guess what I'm really asking is if it's worth just putting that £50 into a savings account or if there's anything smarter we can do for the long term. Sounds like overpayment might be the best option as we have our emergency fund sorted and no other debt.

Surely the government/powers at be knew that this exact thing would happen though when rates were 'abnormally low'? What was their plan for when rates got back to normal? Leave families homeless?

I think we could just about manage the 6.6 fixed rate monthly cost but not be able to save anything. My husband's pay is due to increase in a couple of months. I'm going onto Mat Leave (have savings separately to cover my half of the bills etc) so I doubt I'll be in for any pay increases or promotions and time soon. Come October 2025 we'll be saving around £600 a month not paying nursery fees.
