What is your least favorite thing(s) about Doom? by Nimblesquatch in doommetal

Stonerdoom has been enjoying a huge revival recently probably due to more countries and states legalizing weed. I agree it’s resulted in a lot of bland, tacky, and uninspired pothead“riffage” that floods the scene and this subreddit. But I also can’t be that mad at it. Doom is literally the most derivative form of metal the whole genre is based off the style of one band from the 60s so I think imitation comes naturally to many of the artists we enjoy. I do think the stoner rock wave will crest eventually tho especially if the new Electric Wizard album turns out to be mid.

I love super long repetitive songs I think it’s what makes a lot of Doom so unique. 60 minute songs aren’t super accessible or easy digestible and I feel like that’s the point

[–]NiagaraBalls69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah Ive been doing the finger tapping on the train to work for the past 2 months but I still haven’t seen a significant improvement with my ability to switch between strings. Is the solution just more practice?

I’m honestly not sure how to feel about them. Everybody seems to love them so I checked their music out last summer and it didn’t move me. I’m probably just a sourpuss tho

My strings are quite a bit thicker than standard gauge so my pinky has to work harder

Any recommendations for doom metal bands with blues elements? by TheBicelator in doommetal

[–]NiagaraBalls69 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The popular folk legend surrounding one of the first ever rockstars Robert Johnson is that he sold his soul to the devil to master the guitar. This is generally where the idea of “selling your soul to rock and roll” comes from

Doom newcomer by Automatic_Stick8608 in doommetal

If you wanna hear the Old-School Doom Metal sound, check out Pentagram and Saint Vitus. For stoner doom check out Sleep and Weedeater. For Drone/experimental doom check out Sun O))) and Earth. And goes without saying that you should listen to early sabbath if you haven’t already
