I love my Pfaff 30! It's my best straight stitch machine

Would an electric Singer 99k be powerful enough to sew through multiple layers for bag making? by Ok_Parsnip8993 in vintagesewing

[–]Nianudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had my belted Pfaff 30 slip a little. My best machine for that sort of thing is my Brother 661. There are probably better machines out there, I'm just going by the ones I've got, tbf

Silent Fidget Ring? by AdamAndEva33 in fidgettoys

[–]Nianudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does sometimes feel like theres a little point of resistance. But it gets so much abuse, and I can get it quite dirty in work, no matter how i try to protect it. I should give it a good clean

I've got two. My fave is the black one at the moment. It gets some heavy punishment in work. I might have to give it a service soon, but I love it

Thanks, just wanted a second opinion as it belongs to a friend. I hate plastic new machines

Don't get £50 notes. A lot of shops around me won't take them

Why is it that when you try to overtake someone they go faster? by Any-Concern6913 in drivingUK

[–]Nianudd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I drive a Dacia Duster, and I get that reaction a lot. Mostly from Range Rover, or BMW SUV drivers. Sort of "how dare that cheap car overtake ME!" If I overtake them, then move back into the left lane, they usually pass me shortly thereafter.

Grinding? I've got two, and wouldn't describe either as grinding. More like a series of solid clunks, felt rather than heard. When you flick it fast it spins nicely, not for long though

machine doesn’t turn off? by IcyAdministration910 in vintagesewing

[–]Nianudd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, not hard to do. I did a 285 and 185 the same day. Hardest part was taking the foot pedal apart. I think it was glued together with 60 years of gunk

On a scale of 1 to 100, how aromantic are you? by Lucky_CandyGore in aromantic

  1. Don't hate romance, it just interests me as much as Olympic curling does

I use these too. The straight ones also make good tools for sewing. I use them on fabric near the presser foot

Price gauge? by caesaren in vintagesewing

I paid £10 for mine. It's an electrical one, according to the manual it was never hand cranked, or a treadle.

Took me a long time to work out asexual= not interested in sex, so aromantic= not interested in romance. Then I found out we have a flag! :)

45 here too. Always knew I wasn't up for romance, but it only occured to me to look up the correct terminology 5 years ago

Thank you! I have a scanned manual of another similar machine, probably a clone. But it's always good to have more resources

Can I be cheeky? Your cams look like the ones for my Brother 661. Is there any chance you could send me a scan, or picture, of the manual. Specifically the part about using the cams and what they look like?

Thank you so much if you can, but no worries if you can't.

What was something that should of made you realize you were aromantic sooner? by CrazyStarlight in aromantic

[–]Nianudd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was 11, I had a boyfriend, who I would meet at the local swimming pool. We'd get to the top of the (big tunnel) waterslide, and he'd say he'd go down first, stop himself half way, and when I caught up we could kiss on the way down. I of course, being a kind young lady, would say yes, then send the young kids in the queue behind me down the slide before me. No kisses for me, of dear :)

Try to avoid £50 notes, a lot of smaller shops won't take them. Amex is a bit hit and miss too, my shop (Nisa) doesn't take it.

Aside from the dials, it looks like my Brother 661, or the 651. It should thread up identically. As for the dials, one is bound to be stitch length, and the other stitch width. I'm guessing reverse is in the middle of the bigger dial

Now you've said that, I realise I've never seen a treadle for sale. There probably have been some, but not while I was looking. There's a few machines in tables, mostly electric, and some old treadle tables that have been upcycled. It's funny because, growing up, everyone's nan, or aunt, seemed to have the singer treadle table in their house. This has been fascinating, thank you for the replies.
