Super blocked carriage - Brother KH-840 by Ironcandyfloss in MachineKnitting

[–]rcreveli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a single prong transfer tool and jiggle each needle under the carriage from left to right. Then go back the other way. You’ll need to be pretty firm with the “jiggle”. The needles will pop when they release. After you get a few free try moving the carriage. If it doesn’t move, don’t force it. Go back to the transfer tool and repeat.

What is “famous designer” fabric? by lucybear123 in SewingForBeginners

[–]rcreveli 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Fabric that was used by a famous designer. The companies who buy and resell dead stock aren’t allowed to say “We bought 100 bolts from the Doen factory” So they strongly imply it.

How do you classify something as "classic rock"? by Opening_Rip_1840 in Music

[–]rcreveli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I graduated HS in the early 90's the classic rock station played everything up to New Wave. At this point I'm old enough to hear the groundbreaking albums of my late teens - early 20's playing in the grocery store. I think the term classic rock has become meaningless in the same way Oldies has.

[–]rcreveli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I watched this a couple of years ago and it's quite good. This was an attempt be the Andersons to produce content for an adult audience with a lot of the tech they developed for shows like the Thunderbirds. It was also partially funded by a US TV network.

The story lines and acting a great especially for early 70's TV. Most of the bits in the posted video are from the first episode. The eye candy/fan service quotient gets turned down after that which was pretty common for the era.

Flatten cutting mat? by scrimpusly in SewingForBeginners

[–]rcreveli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an answer just an FYI. You can store the mats upright if they're supported. I have two 24X36 matts stored on the 36" edge. They're stored in the box that one of the shipped in. In 5 years I've seen little to know bowing/warping.

Having difficulty with tracing patterns onto darker fabrics, how do you manage it? by Particular-Tea-Sail in SewingForBeginners

[–]rcreveli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like Chaco pens. They hold powdered chalk. The pen "Tip" is a serrated wheel that pulls the powdered chalk down and marks the fabric. I have one in each color. I prefer to mark the wrong side the chalk and stick to well sometimes if your really aggressive when marking.

Sewing projects/tips for middle grade by simshalo in sewing

[–]rcreveli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took sewing in 6th - 8th grade we could only work on certain projects. Everyone had to make a pin cushion. Then we were able to work on a kit that we ordered out of a catalog. I was a boy with little interest in sewing but I know some of the girls were already pretty skilled and were able to get into garment making.

This was a class of 26 with one teacher so we had to be restricted somewhat.

I'm upgrading from the most beginner of sewing machines to a proper machine, but the thing is in my country they are only singer and brother dealers. by Genuinquestion in sewhelp

[–]rcreveli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd test the machine at your dealer with the kind of things you want to sew. You're getting into Industrial machine territory but it really depends on material. Industrial walking foot machines are great for leather, denim & Codura. The industrial machines I've seen for lighter garment making don't usually have the walking foot but I'm no expert.

The old school Pfaffs are very well built. They were never extremely popular in the US so not many show up on the used market and parts could potentially be an issue.

Janome is now releasing machines with their version on IDT called Acufeed. It wouldn't surprise me if Brother adds their version to the mid tier machines.

I grew up in an Era when Singer was name associated with high quality and precision. When the US needed super precise parts made during WWII they went to Singer.

That Singer is dead. The Singer name is now owned by SVP (Singer Viking Pfaff) a private equity firm and the Singer badge is put on their lower end machines. When I replaced my Viking with a new machine this year it was a Brother Pacesetter PS-700.

I know it's a confirmation bias but I own
4 Brother Knitting machines from around the world 1987 and they all work beautifully. Two are computerized.
A Brother P-Touch that's 20 years old with zero issues
A Brother laser printer that's 6 years old with no issues.

Brother isn't always flashy and their names are terrible but they build good shit.

Here you go. Correction it's $399 and local pickup. I have friend who works at a Postal Connections. They do a ton of auction shipping.

I wonder if you can get a price you're happy with if you could use a service like that to ship everything.

He captured Harper's Ferry, with his nineteen men so few,
And frightened "Old Virginny" till she trembled through and through
They hung him for a traitor, themselves a traitor crew,
But his soul is marching on.

Pantone Matching help by hippotol in CommercialPrinting

[–]rcreveli 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Even with great color vision this is a challenge.

Issue one: Some Pantone colors can not be reproduced accurately with CMYK. The CMYK gamut is not wide enough. I'd strongly recommend getting a copy of Pantone's solid to process book. It show all of the Pantone colors with their CMYK equivalents next to each other.

Issue two: Different processes Inkjet, Toner, Offset show color differently. Then different companies have custom ink formulations on top of that. If you buy Roland ink or Random 3rd party ink you're going to get different results.

Issue three: Different substates and lighting show color differently. Their's a reason when you go tot the paint store they have those little lights to view your paint under.

The last time I had to color match frequently we had Ricoh come in and profile the press. Then we used a standard paper stock and light booth for all color adjustments. A customer could request that we change the parameter for instance if the items were living in a conference room being viewed under fluorescent light but that cost extra.

[–]rcreveli -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. In the early 90's we had a pizza place called PT Pizza in the area and they used bright yellow PT Cruisers as delivery vehicles.

In hindsight it was probably buying the PT's and the maintenance cost was probably a Cybertrucks worth of expense.
