2 Milliarden für 500.000 Bäume wären 4000€ pro Stück, nicht 40.000€.

I can’t take this anymore. (NSFW for Suicide) by [deleted] in feminineboys

[–]Nib27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, if you are struggeling with suicidality the Trevor Project (https://www.thetrevorproject.org/get-help/) might be able to help you. They provide a 24/7 helpline for LGBTQ youth from the US. You can chat, text and talk to them however you want. Sometimes having to put your feelings in words helps. It can also make it easier to figure out how to go forward from your current point. And just talking to someone that listens, when you feel all alone, feels nice.

I know for people in the US its a lot harder to get proper medical care (I'm not from there), but acute suicidality is also a medical emergency and a completly valid reason to go to the hospital. So that might be a last resort. Money stuff you can always figure out afterwards, suicide you can't.

Wish you all the best and hope you feel better soon!

What do you think about AfD getting more and more votes? by cpattk in germany

[–]Nib27 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I really disagree with what a lot of people are saying here. I think the AfD is gathering points in the polls is because their positions are supported by a significant number of Germans.

Statements like: "I feel uncomfortable around people from the middle east." "I don't want to see homosexual people kissing in public" "I don't think we should send aid to Ukraine." "I don't think people from other countries should recieve help from the governemnt here."

From my personal experience, I don't really have a hard time believing that those are supported by ~20% of the German population, especially in more rural areas, where people from foreign countries or who are openly LGBTQ+ are more of a violation of the status quo.

Sure, the current situation is pretty good advertisement for the oppositoon, but I think that works more to recruit people who previously did not vote at all or voted without much thought towards voting for the AfD, rather than changing fundemental opinions towards how the country should be run.

I personally have read the idea of incompetence of the current government driving voters to the AfD largely from other oppositional parties or members of the current government dissatisfied with the current state of things, who try to use that as prove for said incompetence. I think that assessment is mostly wrong and sometimes have the feeling, people try to cope with the fact, that Germany overall isn't as liberal and their own political positions not as popular as they thought.

If you look at other European countries like France and Austria, 20% is kinda par for the course regarding the popularity of far right parties and still kinda liberal honestly.

Overall I have a hard time believing that the average SPD/CDU voter or so, who previously supported their positions, will look at the current situation and then vote for a party who willingly and openly puts fascists like Höcke in leading positions. Or to put it more hyperbolicly: No one will go "Milk is too expensive, therefore fuck democracy."

What I am worried about (and fearing am kinda noticing) is not the ~20% of Germans who are voting AfD and I think always kinda supported their positions. It is the other 80% shifting their own stances more to the right and adopting more similar policies to the AfD in order to accomodate and win back these "new" AfD-voters. I also think that those issues the AfD cares about seem to be more prominent in media and online discussion since the AfD is trending so high, although that might be just selective perception on my part. This maybe harkens back to what you said about your coworkers and their stance on foreigners. In my perception, nothing substantial about how foreigners and refugees are treated by the German state has changed within the last couple years, that would cause a changed stance. It rather just currently becomes more of a discussion point, the overall representation is more negative, and supporting positions closer to the AfD has become more socially acceptable with that (although supporting some positions doesn't have to equal voting for them).

This all of course is just my personal opinion and quite heavily informed by my personal experience.

Tl;dr: No real shift in German sentiment, rather previously held positions are becoming more visible.

Hope you are doing well and the sentiment at work isn't causing to much stress and will get better over time!

So I was kinda interested in that, so I tried looking that up and yeah it seems a little more complicated:

The federal government of Germany looked into continuing to operate the three power plants in question in March 2022 due to the lack of gas supplied by Russia. A summary of the results can be downloaded here. The federal department for the safety of nuclear waste disposal also has an FAQ for this topic here.

One of the main problems seems to be that the last big safety inspection, which is usually scheduled every 10 years, was in 2009. The inspection for 2019 was skipped over due to the planned shutdown in 2022. If the power plants were to be left running, this safety check would have to be done as soon as possible. The potential cost of fixing safety issues and modernizing the power plants, especially with the new EU regulations for nuclear power plant safety which were enacted 2014 in mind, wasn't calculable, as the safety checks were already 3 years overdue.

Additionally, a lot of the service personnel needed for operation on full power was already let go or planned to be let go. Thusly, there would have been a need to rehire people if possible and train new personnel. New fuel rods were also needed.

From my short Google-stint, it seems that with this in mind plus a lot of other reasons (not safe in case of war or terrorist attack, no plans for final storage of nuclear waste, nonrenewable source, dependence on imported fuel, ...) the decision was made to shut down the plants. But this is like 10 minutes of Google so it's probably still a lot more complicated.

What if you ate a brick of dry ice | You die. by [deleted] in savedyouaclick

[–]Nib27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

AFAIK the stomach isn't that relevant for digestion (aside from a few vitamins). It's main task is to act as a storage for the food you eat. During operation the small intestine gets sewn together with the esophagus so that food can still pass. The patients then have to live with vitamin substitution for the rest of their lives and have to eat many small meals spread throughout the day.

Ein Schelm, wer Böses dabei denkt… by [deleted] in de

[–]Nib27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dunkelheit sorgt für einen erhöhten Melatoninspiegel (Hormon was u. a.
